I've always considered doing it, however since I'm not in school anymore its kinda hard. I guess I could go around with a camera sometime and just pretend to be a student or something, or maybe even ask permission, but to be honest I don't really think its worth it anymore. My mates who played CS always wanted me to make it for that.

school maps, done before, all to my knowledge, done poorly.
schools by design do not have fragability.
as far as practice, i say go for it, i think it would be cool, but don't expect many parties.

Screenshots plz. Also, your site has an awful lot of pop up action going on. Probably will keep me from checking there for your future maps, but thats just me. Still though, would like to see the screenies.

Someone Mapped Columbine.. I think its a bit tacky, but the map proved to be very interresting to run around in.
I'll see if I can find the map again for those of you who may want it.

Just so everyone knows, de_ths has excellent fraggability. Its a very open school, unlike most American schools (or so I'm lead to beleive). Personally I prefer the DoD version, cos theres control points all over the map so the entire school sees BLOOD.
Will upload screens in... 4 days. Sorry about the wait, im just not able to upload till the 19th.

Only problem with school mapping personally, is your school will have to have been built on a hill or something, so you get some nice height in your map. Wide walking areas and 'play' areas are even better.

Don't really get why it would need to be built on a hill mate, most schools have multiple floors so that provides plenty of vertical variation.

that thing in the lower-right corner is... woodchips. i know, its a crap texture, ill do a better one soon. most of the "realistic" textures were taken with a friends phone camera, and the pictures all turned out saturated.
also, most of the outdoor textures had to be scaled 4x. this was due to exceeding max_patches (i also had to use large chop values... anyone know how to avoid this pls tell me)

Schools will never look that great in HL, the engine can't take the large areas. HL2 will be good for schools
I'd suggest not making your own school but perhaps stealing the layout from Xcom- Apocalypse to make it a tad more interesting....

A school can be a fraggable map if some good effort and though went into making the map that way. Why not

If you put too much effort into making it fraggable, it wont be authentic. The fraggability of the school map depends on the actual school its based on. If you put lots of effort and thought into making it authentic, and the school is fraggable, you end up with a map both authentic and fun to play in, and you can become an object of worship for all your peers.
