Firefox mysteriously stopped working after I deleted some (supposedly) unrelated files in my program files folder. So I used shudder Internet Explorer to download the installer so I could fix it. I did, and was pleasantly surprised in more than one way.

1)My bookmarks are still there (I'm always paranoid about that).
2)My plug-ins and search engine bars are still there (paranoia, and Urban Dictionary rocks!).
3)There's an awesome automatic spell checker that I discovered whilst browsing another forum, and I've come here to tell you about. It's fantastagasmorical (I know that's not a word, get off my back, Firefox!)

There are some other things that are less helpful, though...
1)My some of my plug-ins will need to be updated by their respective authors before I can use them.
2)The red X at the very right of the tab bar is gone, now I have to move my hand to close the current tab.

And there are some stylish upgrades, including the new 'home' icon:User posted image

Still, I think this is some good progress towards a better browser that's not IE 7.

Not much to respond to... this reads like a feature list (you can find an official one on mozilla's site..). We're starting to get an awful lot of these blog/diary-like posts lately...

It's a little late for a topic on this, anyways, even if there is no discussion to be had. FF2.0's been out for.. what, nearly a month. Any + all gratitudes and gripes have made their rounds pretty well by now...

I'm still on FF1.0. Nice, simple, and it works for me :smile: If you're interested;

Bookmarks are an html file named "bookmarks.html" held in your window's user's directory. Plug-ins is in the same place.

What use does this have? Backup your bookmarks and stuff and you'll never need to worry about them.

I don't even have to see Firefox as an alternative to evil/bad IE anymore. It's just better.

As silly as this may sound, does anyone have a screenshot of FF2 to spare? Interface and looks are half of a browser, I say.

You can get Nightly Tester Tools to 'trick' the extensions into working, it works on most extensions (for me at least).

Thanks for the image french. Looks similar enough to my current version of FF, and I like how it appears there are "quick tabs" stuck on the top of the screen. I'll probably try it out soon

I only hope it works with Fire FTP though. It's the only extension I use, and it's quite nessasary, since I don't have an FTP program :/

Quick tabs? You mean the links bar? That's been there since like Firebird 0.7. Any and every remotely serious browser has those.

Despite the public display of my ignorance, I think I love the Snarkpit even more now...especially Reaper...

Ironically, fasterfox was the slowest one to download

I thought it seemed dry in discussion, that's why I added that last line about IE, but I guess it's time for a thread hijack.
The new topic is browser plug-ins, since the balls already started rolling on that.

I like FF's Adblock plug-in above all other plug-ins, since when I revisit sites, the ads may have changed, but their sources haven't, so I don't have to re-block the adds. (Why do I suddenly feel like I'm about to be verbally sparred by someone with superior technical knowledge about my choice of words?)

I'll undoubtedly have more to say on the topic after I restart Firefox and start using these new plug-ins.

Considering that most features of new IE7 are ripped off from FF and Opera I still think it's inferior to those two. But back to the topic.

I love Firefox for its speed and the fact that it doesn't stall when you have some 20+ pages opening at once(Opera stalls, some web pages don't open when you do that. I tested this with my brother as he is an Opera user to the core). Then the extensions: AdBlock is my favorite, ChatZilla is there too, I got FlashGot with FDM(what a pair), VideoDownloader is a must with some sites and of course FireFTP.

The only thing I don't like is that Snarkpit doesn't quite work as well as it did with 1.0.7  . Otherwise I haven't had any browser problems with FF.

Tab Mix Plus is seriously useful. Lots of options for tweaking their behaviour - lets you setup the way things work exactly how you want.

I'm still using 1.5 at the moment, but I just thought I'd point out another extension that people might find useful, as I absolutely adore it...

Image Zoom

Seriously awesome tool that lets you hold down the right mouse button and then use your mouse wheel to zoom in on/out of images. Absolutely indispensible if you browse images a lot - zoom in on all those reference shots or screenshots that are too small by default with complete ease. Give it a try and you'll never want to be without it.

I must admit I use(d) Free Download Manager with FlashGot for lager files so I can exit FF and continue downloading.

BUT

Fatstring's post fortunately made me curious again to start a quick search in the firefox add-on pages and it turned out this little add-on called "DownThemAll!".

Downloading it now and tell you what I think

Hrm... I'm too lazy to go searching for links, but I have the following addons;

McAfee Security Advisor - Handy tool that sits in the bottom right. It can have 3 colours: green (safe) yellow (warning) red (gtfo the site). Plus, if I click on it, it opens a new tab that shows everything about the site, what sites it links to, and other users reviews of the site. Great tool

I have one that puts my downloads on the bottom bar, so instead of having that Download Manager window open, I can see progress right on the bottom of my browser.

(Just installed Reno's too, nice find  )

You can make it pops up a warning with an ok and cancel option ... I don't know know if that feature made it through all the FF itterations though.

Too bad Firefox is a bit of a resource hog running under windows. Actually, it's proven that Opera is the fastest windows-browser, just because it's more optimized for the platform. It is - however - s**tty to configure, and I don't like it that much as I love firefox.

Firefox + Ubuntu Linux = the win. It's the fastest browsing I've ever done, really.

On topic:
Video downloader is frantastic.

On ForceFlow's tangent:
I've noticed that I need to restart firefox to free memory multiple times during long stretches of surfing the web/mapping. Usually it's due in part to youtube, but it's annoying nonetheless.

They should implement a garbage collector in FF. Where the garbage is old/unused cache information. (and the other crap that is taking up current space)
