In the most recent issue of EGM, there's a Halloween art puzzle.

Basically, there are various illustrations that make up a "scary" game title. For instance, the group of Goblins and Ghosts drinking is "Ghosts 'N Goblins". There are 19 more references in the image ... some are incredibly obscure and old. To note, the puzzle is designed around the American version of the games.

When someone gets them all (without cheating, you bastards) I'll put up the answers.

Try to keep your answers discrete!

Because of the size of the image, it's a little difficult to make out certain things.

The lower left hand side has a guy reading a book, the book says "Biology".
The farthest house on the left has a person dressed as a ghost using a bucket to douse the house in blood.
The farthest house on the right has a limb-less zombie on the roof.
In the middle there is a man being stabbed by picture frames.

If you want to make it easier, here is a key that shows all the references (No answers, but it does show you where to look). Don't click on it if you want to figure them out on your own.

Cheating would be going to 1up.com and looking up the answers. Using google to see if a certain game title exists is okay. It would be practically impossible to get them all unless you did considering one of the games is a Turbo GFX 16 game.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

and bioshock; that's pretty much all i can think of.

I kinda doubt a single person can name so many games, heck i'd be surprised if the whole of snarkpit could find half of the references in that pic (without cheating, that is).

When I first saw it in the magazine, I spent about 10 minutes going over it and got 15 of the titles. (I listed 20, but five were incorrect).

Keep in mind EGM only reviews console games. (8 of the references are PS2 games!)

I was half tempted to rattle off games such as Nitemare 3D, Phantasmagoria, or the original Alone in the Dark, but they're all PC games and there really doesn't seem to be anything similar to them in that image :/

My game knowledge is not up to this task, but I'm tempted to simply make a list of titles that could maybe exist:
Condemned
Frozen Scream
Vampire Rain
Serpent Lord

The only one I feel confident of and have actually played is:
Zombies Ate My Neighbors!

Sirens Call or just Siren is the mermaid think on the roof.

the 2 D's are D2.

Condemned is the house thats all roped off.

Echo Night is the guy yelling night and it echos off..

Silent Hill is the mountain that has a shush look.

Ghosts 'n Goblins is easy since you gave it away in the beginning.. but its the group of them drinking on the street.

Vampire Rain is the cloud raining vamps.

with the clue to the book.. its BioShock, thanks for the clue.

I think thats a stubbs on the roof. but not sure.

Resident Evil is the mail box that says evil..

thats the best I got for now.

Rule of Rose (PS2) - On the left there, with the rose on a throne.

Ghost Hunter (PS2) - The hunter shooting at a ghost in the foreground.

Those are the only two I found that haven't already been mentioned in the thread so far.

Apparently there is a game called Night Trap from 1992 which corresponds with the knight in the lower left.

There's at least one more I thought you would have gotten for sure ... considering you're the only person on this site besides myself whom has actually played it.

Silent Hill (PSX, PS2)
Resident Evil (PSX, PS2, GCN)
Ghosts 'N Goblins (NES and everything else on the planet, seriously.)
BioShock (PC, 360)
Condemned (PC, 360)
Vampire Rain (360, PS3)
Echo Night (PSX)
D2 (DC)
Stubbs the Zombie (PC, XB, PS2)
Dino Crisis (PSX)
Rule of Rose (PS2)

It's "officially" Halloween ... where I live ... so here's all the answers!

Use this as a key:

User posted image

1. Splatterhouse (Arcade, TG16, WiiVC) Has no one played this game!? This game is so awesome and you get an evil mask stuck to your face!
2. Vampire Rain (X360, PS3) A craptastic game on some ... nevermind.
3. Silent Hill (PSX) This is an easy one, and if you have never played the games, you really should. Even the PSX original has held up really well.
4. Dino Crisis (PSX, DC, PC) Ooohh a sub-par RE clone ... with Dinosaurs! I hear some people like it.
5. Stubbs the Zombie in "Rebel Without a Pulse" (XBX, PC, OSX) BRAINS ... only game besides Halo that uses the Halo engine ... and it actually runs on PCs!
6. Night Echo (PSX) I have no idea what this game is. It got good reviews, though.
7. Siren (PS2) It's a survival horror game for the PS2 ... and you're a little asian girl!
8. Cold Fear (PS2, XBX, PC) The game I told everyone to play last year. Thanks for listening.
9. Resident Evil (PSX, SAT, PC) This game blows. The remakes are the only thing that made me like this series. (And Code Veronica on the DC)
10. Zombies Ate My Neighbors (GEN/MGD, SNES) Okay, I have to fess up, I've never played it, though I recognized it immediately ... I feel bad now.
11. D2 (DC) This game rocks my face. It's not everyone's cup-o-tea, but I liked it.
12. Ghosts 'N Goblins (Arcade, NES, WiiVC) Yay, I get ported a lot.
13. Fatal Frame (PS2) Silly rabbit, you don't fight ghosts with proton packs, you fight them with cameras! (And the fourth one is for the Wii)
14. Condemned: Criminal Origins (X360, PC) This game is pretty cool. It runs on the FEAR engine too!
15. Devil's Crush (MGD/GEN, TG16, WiiVC) Some pinball game ... INSPIRED BY THE DEVIL.
16. Ghosthunter (PS2) Pretty messed up game, apparently has bad controls.
17. Night Trap (SCD, 3DO, 32X) Why stop the kidnappers when watching the girls get electronic collar is much more satisfying. Oh yeah, and the game has this scene! Go 80's! ... God, what a piece of s**t.
18. Death Jr. (PSP) Yeah, I didn't get it either. Apparently, the game is lame.
19. BioShock (X360, PC) I still need to get this game ... and destroy the mutated citizens and little girls of Rapture.
20. Rule of Rose (PS2) It's a survival horror game and you're a English little girl! I think she goes crazy.

That's it! I hope everyone had fun trying to guess these.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I could hook you up. You got ZSNES or something? This game is way cool. At least, if you like the SNES retro thing

Thanks, man, I already grabbed it.

I love Super Nintendo. It's my favorite system, period.

I think, if Nintendo marketed the Gameboy Advance Player as the SNES 2 it would have sold better. (Although it wouldn't have made any sense) There's something about playing certain GBA games on a TV that makes them much more nostalgic. (Metroid, for example) It's almost like getting new entries into old series on your new Super Nintendo.

Now if I could only find those godamned Hori controllers for cheap.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.
