seems to me, either they are part of the entity or not.... :eek: .....origins are included in the func_rotating etc, correct me if im wrong please....

Grouping things together in VHE doesn't do a thing for compiling - The origin brush needs to be IN the entity along with a non-origin brush.

in hammer, make sure all the brushes to be in the entity are highlighted together at the same time. then hit the 'to entity' button. it will ask you if you want to add this to the existing entity(whatever the origin brush is) hit the 'yes' button.
the whole group will now be the entity you wanted.

All brushes are CLIP or ORIGIN (at least one must be normal/visible)

another option:
have you hidden most of your map, and have "compile with visable objects only" checked?
