OK, this is pissing me off.

My bud just gave me a new video card to upgrade from my s**tty
intagrated one. Its a nVida GeForce4 MX440 AGP8x I believe. Now it
worked for a while perfectly. I have installed the latest drivers, and
Direct X 9.0. But yes, everything in CS:S is just f**ked up. Lighting
doesnt work, textures get all messed up, and models dissapear.

Screens:

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/1002/csoffice00029le.jpg

This is also causing a dramatic decline in FPS. Before it messed up, i
got about 30-40 fps on everything on high. It usde to say I was running
Direct X 8 when I had the integrated, and not when I put this in it
says im using 7. What, and when I try to instal 9 it just stays at 7
after I do it. Any one know why this is happening and how I can solve
it?

Looks like the materials are getting missplaced. I would recomend
reinstalling CSS. But only if you have the time an patnece to download
the 4Gigs of stuff steam.

Any custom CSS HUD mods installed? Remove them.

<span style="color: white;">I'm having a similar problem, on cs_compound and one custom map, cs_redwood, the shrubs look absolutely retarded, like the texture got replaced. It seems to be after the militia update. I also haven't checked office, so I don't know if that map has the problem as well.

steam://validate/240 is all I can suggest... Then redownload the game.......

Recently Ive also noticed that the game has a hard time leaving a map
or even quiting. What would normally be instant, takes 3 min for it to
quit any source game after you load a map.

If you can't select DX level 9 then I can only guess that means your card doesn't support it?

And as for the screens, it just looks like you're overheating the GPU.

I don't really know what I'm talking about, those are just guesses.

I doubt both of your ideas Morphine. Because i saw the card work on my
friends computer. It said DX 9. Also, my brother has an account and I
have a second account that he got me banned from VAC on. And both
accounts work, and HL2 works fine. So I think its not my video card,
but I am not ruling out the possibility. I deleted a custom HUD, and it
helped a bit, then I just flat out deleted my entire CS:S folder under
my account name. It worked for like 20 seconds, then it just stated up
again.

A GF4MX shouldn't run in DX9 mode, as it's not a DX9 card. I had a GF4
ti4200 for a long while - a better card than the MX - and it was a DX8
card. Yours should be too I imagine, so if it won't let you go above 7
then something seems wrong.

Like little brown and green trees? I think the detail.vbsp file was
adapted for CS_militia (as to make those damn trees in the skybox)
without thinking about the consequences.

About those little trees, i guess you're right, all of the shrubs turned into little trees, lol...
btw 98, i guess you have to uninstall your custom hud\mod or what ever you downloaded as a plug in, and see if it works, just like what omega told you to do

I've actually been getting a few problems like this to. I was playing Kismayo lst night, and as shown by this link there were just patches of missing textures. Nothing quite as bad as Windows' problem, but still. There were the red patches and some huge grey ones. It was pretty obnoxious, and didn't start showing up until the new update.

I'm thinking they just goofed something, since this seems to be a pretty common occurance in my circles of play, so hopefully it'll be patched in the next update.

It's odd on mine though, because it's obviously pulling up the right texture overall, but certain patches of it just don't seem to be rendering correctly. I was maybe thinking decals, but I don't remember there being any decals at those spots, and other decals were showing up just fine.

/me shrugs
Shameless plug.

Speaking of which, I was asking around on other forums and posted your screen, and a few people wanted that radar you have (the PF one). Any chance of sharing it out/where you got it?

Considering the age of a 440, I think you are asking for trouble just trying to use it for HL2.

In a way though I think its poetic justice. Posting huge images and all that still seems to be your blind spot so, the crappy card is perfect for you.

I feel that until you figure out who is asking whom for help and subsequently showing the proper respect you deserve it.
