You might have noticed the new "Media" tab in the browse games section of Steam. Besides a couple of old trailers there is a 15 minute short called "Zombie Movie" made by some guys at Valve. It's a good, black-humor/horror movie about 3 guys sitting in a car surrounded by hordes of zombies while they try out different ways to get the hell out of there. Reminded me of the more realistic/sarcastic Zombie movies like 28 Days Later.
I think it's a cute idea to publish it over Steam. Noone's hurt and it's a fun little movie. Also it's funny to see a (c) Valve at the end.

Lots of people use Divx (professionally) ... but EVERYONE (Windows compatable => steam) can play wmv (and most all the codecs which that entails) Also, since they use .net they can just call library functions (media player) to get the video to play within steam. Just easier, I guess.
Wmv is also big on streaming video, even if it doesn't usually work (Not for me anyway, it buffers for 2 minutes plays for 3 seconds then buffers for another minute. I never get smooth playback. But then again wmv is a pos.)
If Valve wasn't using Divx, Xvid or any of those nice codecs because of piracy ... why would they hire the people behind bit torrent?
As for the movie it self, it's still loading.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

btw. the Steam Media Player crashed to me. It... restarted the PC.
That's why I found out about the WMV format anyways

Funny, i've seen a s**tload of whining about the file, but not one word about the MOVIE itself.
I thought it was pretty good but it's a shame that the living dead
didn't have any headcrabs on them. The cannibalism part was pretty
disturbing, especially the roast finger, but overall it was, indeed, a
good way to kill 15 minutes.

I liked the part where they were talking about which bands were "evil" and the guy said KISS, then the other guy said "F--k, Sam, KISS ain't evil bro, they're gay." That made me laugh.
Also when Sam was talking about how they could start a fire in the spare tire compartment to cook him. Then they stabbed him repeatedly, and afterwards he said "take me to the hospital, I need a doctor."
And I think it was his penis, since thats where the blood was on his clothes. Kind of an odd choice of parts to eat first IMO.
As it's been said, good way to kill 15 minutes.

I thought it was going to be one of those HL2 movies but I was surprised to find it was live action. It was ok for a short indi film  It bothered me how dumb they were that they poured the gas through the hole which was obviously not in the tank.....all they'd have to do is look and see that there was pavement below them :/
