Now if only it came with system-only games other than Halo that were good...

What would be good if in version 1.7 of CS you will be able to get a Kevlar/Xbox armour!

I'm with SC. I own a PC, Xbox, PS2 and Dreamcast, and so I think that proves I'm not an Xbox fanboy, but at the same time I must say its my favourite of the 4. Any cross platform games I buy I get on the Xbox, its just generally the superior console (no need for memory card, run faster, look better, load quicker, etc...).
Perhaps there are more unique games for the PS2, but most of the time I find myself let down by them and not by the Xbox ones. Games such as Otogi, Project Gotham Racing series, Amped series, Phantom Crash, KOTOR, and so on are all far classier than most of the equivelants I've played on the PS2 (such as the SSX series, which is available on both anyway, GT3, Armoured Core (best I can think of to compare to Phantom Crash), etc...).
The one area in which the PS2 currently beats the Xbox hands down is strategy / RPG titles, although with the likes of Fable, Jade Empire, Sudeki, KOTOR2 and more on the way, I think its dominance in this area is soon to slip. Japan is also beginning to develop more original titles for the Xbox which was one of its let downs, so titles like Phantom Dust, Red Ninja and Magatama are also gonna sway the balance.
All in all, its very unfair to judge the xbox solely on Halo, which isn't as AMAZING as everyone seems to think it is anyway...though it is still the best console FPS ever I suppose

pats new PC
for all the fan fair, nothing IMO will ever replace my pc or its games.
yeah i have seen some amazing stuff for others systems, but i cannot get past the lack of a keyboard as the input interface.
also, i have never seen a game that peaks my interest, i am not into cars chases, drug deals, airplanes, sword fights or any of those types.
if its not akin to HL, or civ II its just not interesting at all.
anywho's, yeah i have several consoles here, all older ones. the newest is a dreamcaste i think, but still i get bored even watching them after about 3 minutes.
i think i will leave them to the next generation, cause i see no use for them.

I barely ever use my PC for gaming anymore, its the tool while my consoles are my toys  I love some PC games (HL, Fallout games, etc...) but I'm definately the console type I guess.

Sorry ReNo- i just gotta say something in response to that... I really hate how people tote the fact that the XBox doesn't require a memory card as a plus... All the games are saved on your console only... That was the beauty of the memory card! You want to go over to your friends house and play with some custom characters, just lug over a 3 oz. memory card- not the entire console set. It's just not possible with the XBox.
I love my memory cards, I really think they're the next best thing to in-cartridge saving.

Monqui, you can buy memory cards for the xbox, you just don't NEED to. If you often take save files to mates consoles, you can get a memory card for ?20, just like you can for the PS2, but if you don't (I only have one mate with an Xbox, and I've never needed to take save files) then thats ?20 you don't need to bother spending. You can copy any of your save files from the hard drive to the memory card. And of course the hard drive has loads of space on it, so you can rip your CD collection to it and use them as soundtracks to games

Its good that they accomodated for it, but its not much of a touted feature, as I guess it has limited appeal.
The HDD is lovely though, going onto a different console really makes you appreciate how great it is. I've 5 memory cards for my Dreamcast, and 6 for my PS1, and finding the right save files on them can be a bitch, so having the HDD on the Xbox saves loads of hassle.
I've got about 20 or something Xbox games, each with multiple save files for me and my flat mates, as well as lots of ripped mp3s, and the space counter for the HDD still hasn't been dented. I think its 8Gbs or something large, which is more than enough for save files, music, and a few downloadable features like new levels etc...

Yeah, but I have just one memory card for my PS2, and it hasn't filled up yet. So its not too huge of a deal for the PS2 at least (for me...). But I know what you're talking about with the multiple cards being a huge bitch for the PS1. Ugh- I really hated that.
I also hate how you can't partition space for a PS1 save on a PS2 mem-card, but thats probably just me.

Hmmm, I hadn't actually noticed you couldn't, but its not something I would have done anyway really, as I doubt I'll be needing any more memory card space for PS1 games. I agree about it not really being an issue on the PS2, I have about 12 games for it so far and have loads of room left on my 1 memory card. Pity they are expensive, but at least you don't need many like with the PS1.

Do foreign memory cards (and other peripherals, for that matter) work? I figured each areas were unique in some way, but I haven't looked into it.

Yeah, foreign peripherals works just fine. The voltages of a console are the same once it's in the console (the transformer at the back just converts it to say "PS2 internal voltage") and there are no regional limitations on peripherals. Games can be tricky, they may or may not work in a foreign zone. I've seen it work, but sometimes it doesn't.

Importing games usually requires a modchip, or some other modification to your system. Anything that used a cartridge either has an adapter available, or something you could sand off the inside of your console to accomodate some new tab on a foreign game (eg N64).
Dreamcast didn't need a modchip because the designers left in a backdoor to boot code off a CD-R. That was all it took to make mass piracy possible, and now Dreamcast games can be downloaded and played without a hitch. CDs are available for download that let you swap in a foreign game.
PS1, PS2, and XBox require a modchip, though you can get a cd-based swap setup for PS1. Modchips for PS2 are available in a no-solder form (I think) where you just plug it into some socket inside the console and you're set.
Gamecube has a little solder point inside that when bridged switches it to Japanese. Many people install switches that let them play imports. You could also get an Action Replay that wouldn't require any modding to your Gamecube. So far however the copy protection on the Gamecube has been very tough to crack, and while there is homebrew code out there that exploits a hole in Phantasy Star Online's "update" code, the only way to play pirated games at the moment is to stream them over a network from your PC. No modchips are available yet because nobody can figure out how to disable the barcode check for every mini-DVD put into the console. Needless to say not many people are big users of this streaming method...
Can you tell I'm a Gamecube owner?
