Hey all it's me :leper: Half-dude!

I finally got episode 1 to run. I'd been having problems with it, like it just sitting there when loading and having to reset. Or just crashing in general. Well I finally got it running by closing EVERY single background program.

So this is my question, how exactly was blowing up the citidel's reacter making it possible for them to send a transmition? I thought this the first time I played it. I was like WTF? and reloaded to make sure I heard right. I just makes absolutly no sense. Honestly I think that Valve was just looking for an excuse to blow something up.

I mean at the end we see a portal open at the top of the citidel with the 'message beam' shooting out. How is this possible? The whole freaking teleport section if blown up!

I'm just at a loss here, help?
Yes I spell bad, but remimber Mighty are the stupid.

I think it was something about they needed more power to send the transmission, and the only way to do so was to push there power source past its safe capacity. idk, but the explosion was cool.

Hay yeah. Now that I finally download ep1 and finshed it. Mabye the citidal in secret is a Power Plant and they needed to overload it or some s**t. And why didn't ep1 have any vehicles. They where so cool in hl2.

And another thing, I hate how valve does the episodic thing. Its annoying. Instead of makeing ep 1-99999, they could just make Half-life3. Featuring better graphics and the lot. Episodic sucks!!!!!!

I like the episodic thing. It's nice playing them and i would like to see a real jump in image quality before HL3 comes out.

If you were up on HL news, you'd know that in E2 they're having vehicles. But what do you care, you've never played HL2 entirely.
And another thing, I hate how valve does the episodic thing. Its annoying. Instead of makeing ep 1-99999, they could just make Half-life3. Featuring better graphics and the lot. Episodic sucks!!!!!!
Episodic does not suck. If you've read any press releases from valve they've said that delivering HL2 through episodic content is faster and a better means of developing a game thats even better. Game developing companys WISH they could do this. Heres the break down:
-You play E1
-You report back what you liked/didn't like
-They improve E2 by taking out things that didn't work and adding in things that do work well to improve the game.
-You play E2
-You report back what you liked/didnt like
-Rinse and repeat for E3 and any future episodes.

Do you notice a trend? They're refining the game as it progresses! Bungie wished they could do this, but lack that ability because of being on a console (you ship a game once, valve can ship a game with ease).

Honestly arron I don't know why your here if you keep making one sided arguments that have no ground to them.

The HL2 episodes don't seem all that episodic to me. Episodic kind of implies more than one per year, if not at regular intervals, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not too happy that Ep1 was 6 hours long at best, either. If Ep2 came out four to six months later it'd be perfect, but it didn't so its not. In my opinion/speculation Valve is most likely holding Ep2/TF2/Portal back to polish up the multicore update to the engine (again, speculation). I hope Ep2 is a little longer in any case.
Instead of makeing ep 1-99999, they could just make Half-life3. Featuring better graphics and the lot. Episodic sucks!!!!!!
They said there will be 3 episodes, and if you look at them you'll notice the graphics get better with each. HL2:Ep1 had HDR and color correction, Ep2 will have multicore support, the improved AI, particles and physics that come with that, and an improved lighting engine on top of HDR and color correction.

The only truly "episodic" series of games I know of is the new Sam & Max games.

I also know that Valve has definate goals for the episodes

ep1 was character development of a character close to gordon (alyx)
ep2 is large outdoor areas and the like
ep3 is ???

I don't even know if Valve has announced anything about ep3, if someone knows the goal for it, feel free to post it

I don't like the whole concept of episodes, it's probably just because I like to sit down and do several hours of gaming rather than have little bites every few months.

No episodic sucks. Ep1 and Half-life 2 where like the exact same things to me. Just minor diffrenses. I dont like short games. I wanna play it from start to finish and the whole thing being like an experiance. Awsome s**t happening in between, many twists, then a massive explosive ending. I would describe Episode1 as a small exstension of Half-life2 with a small cliff hanger. I dont know. Did Ep1 even have multiplayer

To make us feel better about ourselves?

The episodic thing keeps the series alive in the mind of the consumer for extended periods of time. When a company finishes one full-length game in a series, they usually don't have anything worth showing from the next game in the series. With Episodic, they don't have to change the entire engine to make something worthy of the next game, they can show a brief clip from something they've already made for the next game while the mappers and beta testers were polishing up the current release. That can be in the old engine or a slightly modified old one.
It's like Lost; it's about anticipation, IMO.

They do...its called comentation mode...

Did you also know - along with E2, they're releasing TF source? as well as portals around the same time.

Plus valve is working on HL3 technology. They wont say anything, but while your patching the current version thats out there, you start building the next step of technology. SO really what this episodic thing is extra to keep us occupado while they work out the next level of technology.

Cool omega.

Mabye episodic is ok. You know what I want to see. Half-life1/Half-life2 deathmatch game with cool modes like Ctf, deathmatch, territories, king of the hill, Oddball, Jaganought team deathmatch where you can actually choose your team. That would be cool. Really cool. And you can have matchmakeing and party clans, custom game modes (like snipeing only and there are only snipers on the map) or shotguns or whatever. And you can go to a freinds house and play lan/online and have lots of coke and lollies and chochlate, than wipe the cheetos of you hands and start kickin ass. Stay up all night, people throwing lan fests.?And you have rankings and like a profile and stuff.

That = cool.

I you remember it was over 5 years between HL1 and HL2. Hl2 and episode 1 was just about 1 year, and the same with episode 2. So in two years you will have recieved about 12 to 16 hours of new content (not including the additional stuff like TF2 and portals). I am fine with episodic content, (although I was alittle dissapointed with Sin Episodes being cancelled).
