In need of collective advice.

I've fixed the rough spots there there.. and to be honest, I havent goten around to starting even planning my section. I've been working on D_C2. I just added a new section to it and its looking real spiffy IMO. It would fit SPLA as well and was thinking of integrating it (makes a great centerpiece and adds connectivity as well as a vertical aspect)

PitCrew 2! Cast your vote. Shall I use it or not cause it will be the same piece as will appear in D_C2.

personally, i dont care much for repeatative use of map parts.....but i have done it to a small extent, so i say..."if it feels good to ya , do it..." time constraints, hardware issues, etc etc etc all contribute to the amount of time you can/want to put into it, its understood.... do the best you can.....woot!

Remember, it was planned for D_C2 so it might or might not fit our theme to the letter but...

I can't see everything from the shot but it looks a tad odd having 3 identical floors stacked on top of each other. The square door seems okay, but I'd change the positions/appearances of the wide rounded doors.

Speaking of which, is your map Steam-compatible yet? And where's this GMDM2 dedicated server I hear about?

lol, I didnt know they were all NS. I have about 50-60+ .WADs loaded into VHE, I just started with the design then added the wall texture and from there, found matching sets for the doors, floors, etc.

It was the best I could find for making AVP style section.

Yes, gmdm2 is Steam-compatible now. Gmdm2 server is kindly hosted by Bewbies at IP 64.81.84.181:27015 ; the server does not seem to be responding at the moment.

I'll be very busy in the short term, but generally I'm always keen to play on my map

SPLA map 2 is actually an NS map? Eh? :S

If it's not NS you can't use the textures, if i'm an idiot and you've changed it already or this is an NS map or something crazy ignore me but i thought it was a DM map and i'm not reading 44+ pages to figure out what is going on.

Well its not IDENTICAL but it is fairly close. Thats where I got the "motivation" for that area, cause I've played both AVP1 and 2 and wanted to make a map in that style, and when I got to this part in AVP2 I liked it so much I decided to make by own version of it. Mind you since that pic it has changed, and it still looks off from the AVP version.

Do you mean the bit in AVP2 when you've gotta get to your team quite near the end. I think that bits near where you have toi fight with the Predator. Blindingly sweet game, AVP2 is, I can see how you got the insperation for that little bit of a level there.

well, id say ask KFS mazey....hes told me on more than one occasion about this texture deal, especially when i was trying to make textures for NS, retouching them actually is what brought about the conversation....although i will admit its been pre-steam and official valve "sucking the life out of it for all its worth" time...

KFS, that's your cue

However, NS textures have been righted to the NS team since day one. If not protected legally, simply have some respect for the mod (and more importantly, the artist) and leave the textures out. Besides, Brasso can pwn on that wall texture you're using any day of the week

P.S. WC, Cliff Complex = secks.

 This has been stated over and over again by Valve: The moment the mod becomes official, the textures can be used by anyone working on a Half-Life level. I can use DoD, CS, TFC, DMC, and Ricochet (but why would anyone?) textures anywhere and everywhere HL related.

Now, I don't know if NS getting Steam support means its been dubbed official, and I would highly doubt it... I think official means Valve has been cutting checks to people or has been doing lots of coding/taken over aspects of its design... so I would say those textures are off limits for now. If the NS team wants to keep their textures theirs, they better not let Valve start helping.

Well if NS wants to keep their textures, I have plenty more to choose from. But if they want to keep them, why release them to the public? Kinda lame if you ask me.

Sinner_D, I've fixed up your pipes for ya, I havent compiled though to check. I'll send the map to ya when I get home I guess, cause I'm at school right now.

So the public can make maps for NS. It's highly unadvisable to use the textures without permission (which you almost certainly won't get).

but as far as I know, it isnt specified when you download the game that you cant use the textures. They are just there.

Dont get me wrong, if I am not allowed, I will remove the .WADs. But is it specified or is it just that you guys say that?

Go check out the NS website/readmes/information files of any description. You should find repeated references that forbid using the NS textures outside of NS maps.

well, just to reitrerate what ive said all along, ive spent about 2 hours this morning and last night trying to find reference that says you CAN use them, especially since mazey brought up the point of the absorbtion by Valve of NS as an official valve backed mod....and i can find absolutely nothing that contradicts the known....NS textures are off limits for other mods still, as far as i can tell....i couldnt even find hints that it might be ok....so, use your own discretion.....but to be safe for this project, i'd say dont use em WC....the only reason i used them was i was too lazy to change over my wad stockpiles back to the norm....just my 2 cents man....

aight WC, thnx alot man

as for the NS texture usage, i too read on the NS site where they state that any use of NS textures outside of the NS mod were forbidden under any circumstances, and seeing as how NS isnt currently a Valve offical mod, you really cant use them legally. GL retexturing

Personally I dont give two s**ts lol... I suggest you all forget NS, CS, and DOD textures and just use custom or HL textures for this map.. and why are you arguing over it.. KFS has come in many times to say the same thing he has on numerous forums.. DO NOT USE NS TEXTURES FOR MAPS OTHER THAN NS ONE. Conversation done... now whos got the map so i can add my section on and finish it up and we can finally release this shiznatch.
