You guys are kicking out some great models! Love the girl - looks like good clean modeling.

I haven't been doing much 3d work at all, lately, very busy at work atm (anyone see the EGM cover or videos for Ratchet Future? tis an exciting time for us).

Anyway, I've been trying to do more drawing lately - appreciating the simplicity of it as oppossed to the monster task of game development. Here's a few random drawings from the grab-bag.

Pretty rough sketch of some lizard/like creature. Might do more with this guy.

At work we have a weekly celebrity caricature contest - can you guess who this is? (I don' think I really captured her, but I like the drawing.)

This is something I worked on for a while this weekend. I'll probably leave it alone for a while, then come back and polish it up. I would love to eventually write some short stories with illustrations sprinkled throughout, so I'm pushing myself to draw scenes which tell a story, rather than your typical rendering of environments or characters. I would love to hear what story you apply to this picture!

Adios - and sorry if these images are massive!

Massive images are the best kind of images for drawings/paintings, IMHO

The lizard is very cool, I'd love to see that one in more a finished state.

Can't pin a name, but the face definitely rings a bell.

I love the expression on the guy's face in the last pic, to me that tells a story of two words "You lose."

Crit:
It looks to me like there would be much less light on the top of his head and his forehead. His left arm, or lack thereof, also kind of throws me off.

Great stuff overall

Good call Baron - I'm not quite happy with the structure of the guy yet. I think your right, the light isn't doing a good enough job of describing his head. It's sort of flat atm. His left arm is 'under construction' . I'll update the pic as I work on it.

First drawing with a Graphire tablet:
User posted image

After spending some time getting used to it I turned some overlapping circles into a snow man, looked decent so I colored it. I'm gonna try some figure drawing with it tomorrow, though it seems better to use continuous lines with this rather than feathering them in like I usually do with pencil+paper. In any case, I like having a pen tablet

I've been playing around with this creature concept for a while, it's a predator on an alien planet similar to earth that fills a niche similar to the tiger's or leopard's.

Crits are welcome for this one, bear in mind it's still early WIP and the shading is to show form, not necessarily shadows.

One thing sticks out for me (since its an early wip)

Is this creature going to be a tri-clops? I mean, it looks like it has an eye on its forehead.

If so, coolness. If not, work on eye placement for a two eyed creation.

Neglected to mention that, yes, it has three eyes

The ones on the side can't look in the same direction at once, so it uses the center eye for binocular vision. The tongue is studded with teeth that constantly grow, and it uses that to chew by wrapping it around prey like a constrictor snake and crushing/tearing, rather than using it's jaw. That's why there are so few normal teeth, they're just for grabbing prey and not letting it go so the tongue can rip it to shreds. The first version I drew had it standing like a T-Rex and the jaw wasn't connected in the middle so each side would move independently.

Cool drawing Baron. It looks like you're putting alot of thought into the design. I think the view of the animal isn't doing it justice, however. If it's gonna have 3 eyes, you might want a perspective that shows this. Also, most of the character and energy of an animal is displayed in his stance. Give us a perspective that shows a little more of his body and how he might move. I would suggest doing some quick gesture drawings with simple lines - this will help you find a nice energetic pose for him.

Natus - your guy looks pissed!

Thanks Finger. That drawing sputtered and stalled shortly after I started shading, due to my lack of understanding of value. I was gonna color it and whatnot, but I'll leave that for a later date when I'm better with value and form.

I was thinking a similar thought. If it has three eyes, you need it to be only semi-profile. I mean, you're picture has no depth. Its almost 2d in fact.

Have the body semi-crouching, about to spring on its prey and have its head ever so slightly turned to check on any competition from the rear.

That would be a cool picture... Or, have the nose of another one just coming into frame. THAT WOULD BE REALLY COOL.

I just started playing around with a sphere as a base, was originally going for an old mongolian man, but it started looking more like a native American so I ran with it. Its 144k tris ATM, I'll start working on the next step up tomorrow (half million tris), I'll be able to start defining the ears, eyes, cheeks and lips better then.

I'm going to try to put the displacements around the hole, I'm assuming it will not be easy. If it gets to be too much of a chore, I may cheat and put a wooden cover on the hole. lol

The UV textures were "baked out" in blender (texture & ambient occlusion shading UV), then I had to spend some quality time in photoshop CS2. glad you like them.

Stadric wins. It's the suspension from a tamiya baja champ that I've had lying around for some time.

RedWood, it was all done with calipers.

fishy, very nice and detailed. Would be awesome if you could import it into a modeling program when it's done and render it with nice lightning and materials. Or maybe that's possible in autocad?

I thought those tires and that simple suspension would be used on an rc. Go me.
By the way, does anyone have any simple base colors that have a plastic sheen? I'm making some lego bricks in XSI and I didn't want to spent all of ten seconds making a texture.
Also change the texture of the dock. Docks are rarely tile. -Facepunch
