ya need to make sure you have your commander view set above the rest of the area....its a setting in info_mapinfo ....called view height for commander...also, make sure your boundaries are within thw appointed area....hope that helps....if not, holler back...

up in the menu there is a select all feature...under edit, i believe....select all, and drag it where you want it....but beware, itll occasionally shoot off into the netherworlds if yer too close too it visually...in other words, magnify it (zoom out) so you can see most all of it....it helps....its a very resourse draining move, so be careful....
and as far as the questions....thats what we are here for....decorum goes a long way around here...
and as a postscript, when someones help does the trick for ya, give em the credit....just push the little button thingy, and it will be acredited to the soul in question.... :heee:

As a freindly piece of advice, you shouldn't really tackle NS mapping when you're starting out with Hammer. It's a bit too complicated for first-timers, and you're best off perfecting your skills with DM maps and such (this comes from experience, NS mapping is near-impossible to pull off correctly for me).

Use a side view where you can see height in order to check what the minimum and maximum settings need to be. At some point you'll want a map, so make sure to bring down the console in a single-player mode and type in buildminimap

I'd suggest not tackling NS right now. Three months is not enough experience to make an acceptable map. Hell, I've got over 5 years of experience and I don't know if I could make a good NS map. You are biting off more than you can chew, but good luck swallowing. NS needs more good maps

Can't disable it, but I'll look into some scripting that removes any height/width tags attached to smilies...

i have to ask this..
do you truly think, that exchanging caplocks for bold text will somehow motivate others to your plight?
i suggest patience, and possibly seeking additional services of an NS forum..

BTW there's no need to ask, "please don't flame me". People here are quite willing to help and don't want to shout at you.
But often when you go somewhere expecting a fight, you will find one.

Don't post your rmf yet. Post a screenshot. I'm not understanding what you mean by the overlapping part; if it's what I think it is then there may be nothing wrong at all. Either way, I think a lot of people here could really benefit from seeing what's giving you trouble in action.

I can barely understand what you're blabbering on about...but I'm going to take a stab at one of your problems. The reason why you cannot see through your ceilings when in the commander mode is that you have to use a special brush entity called "func_seethrough" in the NS.fgd . As I understand it, every single brush that you want the commander to be able to see through has to be set as this entity, otherwise it won't work.
See, its things like this that make NS mapping hard

I'm pretty sure you don't have to do that. If you will just go to the tutorial that I posted, and follow the steps, the problem will be fixed. Just a case of if you can be bothered to read it really.

no yak, you dont have to do that....yer viewpoints set the field of vision restrictions....its actually not as hard as it may seem, just a matter of the right entities in the right places, with the right or appropriate settings....id suggest using the link jeff provided, and use it as a starting point....

Once RMFs start getting sent, it starts to become less of "let's help this guy" and it transitions into "let's solve this guy's problem for him with him not truly understanding how he did it." Plus, we'll probably end up with a ton of comments on how clean/sloppy his brushwork is that really aren't relevant to this thread.
And Yak Fighter is not wholly right about the func_seethrough... remember the brushes are more or less lost in the compile process. You can see through automatically any face looking straight down or near it, typically you don't have to do anything to your ceiling to see through it. I made a functional NS map (not wholly complete, but wholly functional) with only like three func_seethrough's

well, at the risk of sounding argumentative, which im not trying to do, most of you guys around here know damn well i dont circumvent the database, in fact im one of the more staunch supporters of it.....and no offense intended to Death, but youve seen how this kid posts, and quite honestly, im not friggin sure what hes talking about, as is the same with a few others inm this thread....ive done enough NS map parts to know a few tricks of my own, and you can bet yer ass and yer housecat ill be doing a full report when i get it figured....so, chill, ill figure it out, and ya'll will be the second to know.....cool? i feel like im being scolded for helping this guy, or trying to anyway, and its not necessary, imho.....

ok mr death....
there are a few issues that are basic that need to be addressed....i cant get this sucker to compile the way it is, and im wondering how you did....all that aside...heres the first report, for the sake of the pit.......and im going to pm you the rest, and it probably wont be till tommorrow....theres alot to be done here....
you really need to thoroughly understand the concept of the NS map...its not really designed for serious vertical gameplay...a little is acceptable, but i think youve overdone it. the ready room....its a nice idea, but youll find in the end, you will need the resources because most NS maps get to be pretty large....im assuming this was going to be a CO_ map, due to the unorthodox hive setup.....
brushwork....needs a bit of work sir....i say that to you only to encourage good mapping practices....overlaps in this case are not necessary, and itll only add to the compile time, and make it that much harder to find yer problem areas....the 1 to 1 grid is usually a point of contention, but its a good rule to vertex manipulate yer brushes to hit the grid...it helps alleviate invalid solids....
its also a good idea to build youe map a little closer to the interior of the mapping area, as you are getting alot of errors by having it all the way to the edges....ill post my attempted compile log if youd care to see it, or i can send it via PM....
my best advice to you at this point would be to go back and re-read the tutorials, especially the mapping guidelines....they are the best setup guide for NS maps ive seen, short of someone walking you thru it....
i like the ideas you have going...in concept, they could make for a really nice map, so dont get discouraged man, youve got a good start on....once i get this pup rolling right, we'll talk about it, and see if we can get her going full steam....sound like a plan?
....and to all my pit brethren who are thinking im just gonna piss off the database....
Doc "i have no ass" Brass... :dodgy:
EDIT>>> and after looking at it, there is no way i'd want to post screenies without your permission Death, although i will say that it would make for a very good lesson set in NS mapping....its up to you though....
