Just wondering, do any of you out there know of Jet? And if so, what do you think? Theyre huge here, and theyre one of my favourite punk bands.

I've heard the one song, though I don't remember the name of it (something about 'being my girl'?).

Sound very much like the Hives to me...

The name of the song is "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"... thats their most popular one. It got voted #1 for 2003 in the JJJ hottest 100, if youre interested.

I heard one song, probably the same as everyone else. Thought it was a bit boring tbh. I wish the press wouldn't hype things out of proportion when they sound like everyone else...at least, that was my impression. I mean, Franz Ferdinand? One good song doesn't make a successful career I'm afraid.

You seem to not know the true meaning of the D.

I appreciate Jet at this current moment. They're the only rock act that SNL, which I watch religiously, has booked this season. I don't know why they're trying to ruin the whole musical guest aspect of the show but it's sure working.

I think Scatman John is still going...probably still very popular in Germany or something

You haven't listened to the album or watched the HBO specials, have you? Franz Ferdinand, however, I saw live (supporting Funeral For A Friend, of all people). Take Me Out is their only good song.

I've listened to a few other Jet songs, and they seem very bland.

Exactly! They're more a comedy duo than a serious musical act. They are to rock what Penn and Teller are to crazy circus sideshows.

Jet's kinda generic. Not great, but not bad. They get a lot of radio play in Indianapolis so their singles got old fast, but they're still better than Creed/Nickelback/Staind/et al

I don't know why you guys are calling Jet punk, they're nothing like what I think of when I hear punk (Bad Religion, Rancid, old Green Day, Sex Pistols, etc). They're more of a garage band sound than punk. Retro and stuff.

Oh, another Australian band that I'm somewhat a fan of that could be called punk is The Living End. That's some good stuff, too bad they're just a one-hit wonder round here.

I think Elvis raped Warrant and that song was their retarded bastard spawn.

The fact that it's popular should be a warning not an enticement.

I must listen to some industrial to feel clean again.

1. Jet are ok, just sounds like 70's rock to me, gone modern.
2. They are NOT punk.

I can't NOT dance when I go out, it just takes you over, it has so much energy. you have a few drinks... get out there on the dance floor with all these people dressed cool as hell... the lights flashing, the music pounding... it's just sex. everyone I've ever taken out- geeky people who've never been out to a club like that before- has had a total blast.

I can put together a good list of songs to download if you are interested in the genre. if you like NIN, you should give some of this stuff a try, as it's mostly electronic as well.

Arg, ya know what i really wont go into my rant..ill stop right here.

Anyways ive heard Jet and their "Are you gonna be my girl" i personally like that style, i like sloan, the hives and such. They have potential if they cna keep the energy going, i havent heard any of ther other songs and since i refuse to dl mp3's ill just wait for the radio to play a new one.

yeah, radio is great. they'll play the 2 good songs that are on an album to trick you into wasting $20 on it. radio is basically just one big advertisement for crappy music, since they only play the bands & singles selected by the music industry. I mean, the radio is "free music", too, just like mp3's- the only difference is that the music industry controls it and can use it to steer everyone into buying the same garbage.

I haven't bought a cd in the last 4 years from a band that I haven't heard first on mp3. None of it is stuff that is played on the radio, I don't even listen to the radio anymore.

downloading mp3s is a right, not a wrong. If CDs where actually priced resonably, then we wouldn't have to use kazaa and the like.

That's what second hand music stores are awesome for, for many reasons. First- the CD's are like 5-10 bucks, which is really a great price in my mind. Second, the people who work in the store generally breate, eat, live, and s**t music- so they can usually help introduce you to new bands that fit your tastes.

And as for the radio, I haven't turned the thing on in years. There is one really awesome station here now, but I can't ever remember it's freq. when I get in the car.

I don't live near any major record stores, and the nearest decent one is 20 minutes by public transport away. If there was such a thing as a decent second hand music store in my area, then I'de use it. But I live in a town where people come to die, so you can imagine what kind things there is to do here at the weekend/holiday.

Heh, i've only heard of 3 of those bands Jinx (KMFDM, Skinny Puppy & Front 242). Not a massive fan of industrial stuff, though my dad has Rammstein and Laibach's most recent albums  Can't (don't want to) imagine him going out and dancing to it though!

My uhhh...rather small album collection

http://rain.frontline2.com/music.txt (they're all originals btw, not a big fan of d/ling music unless its just to check a band out)

And Doc B, if you're looking for some really good music, check out 'Oceansize' if you can

YES! OCEANSIZE! WOO!! GO MANCHESTER!! Wow, another Oceansize fan. I never thought I'd see the day.

Hehe. Oceansize are the single best thing to emerge from my hometown since....um, something. They're a strange, almost transcendal prog-rock acid trip of a mind f**k. It also happens to be very uplifting musically (though lyrically, not so), especially the opening instrumental "I Am The Morning". Get "Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs" or "One Day All This Could Be Yours". The rest really don't work on their own, the album works best when you listen to the whole thing back to front.

Oh, the album's called "Effloresce" by the way.
