Yeah, Final Fantasy really has some memorable music. My favorite is probably some random stuff from Final Fantasy IX though.

This is great, I have the OSTs for 6 of the games, and sheet music would be nice.

I really must agree with kage, FF7 (in my opinion) is the best ff (if not best rpg) game ever. But ya the music is great, I get mine from limewire. The best so far though is FFX only because its more modern that FF7.

Shesh bite my head off..... I agree the classics are better, zelda for instance, and mario, but i must say mario 64 was good, but still it is in my opinion, after playing all ff games from NES and such, ff 7 was the best all around, because it really set the boarder for new age games, and MGS series, I thought MGS sloid snake was better than MGS2, even the older MGS were okay, but I must say I enjoyed playing in 3d instead of sprites. And as I said, the FFX music was better because of its mew age sound, I didnt necicerely say that it was better than 7 or and lower ff games. But still go up to any person who has played all ff games and they will say that 7 is the best, its this way because 7 set new standards for games, and yes I have played Chrono trigger, the older games from square are better than the sexed up girly crap square fed us in FFX and FFX-2 uggghh all crap I think, and dont get me started on 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the worst pice of S**T square has ever fed its fans, Just face itm games are on a slow decine, I go back to the old ones yes, but I dont go back as far as say ff legends and actually enjoy it. And if I quote myself "FF7 (in my opinion) is the best ff (if not best rpg) ever" I never said that 7 was the best rpg, i know there are A LOT of rpgs out there, i just thought 7 was the best in the ff series. And ff 6 that had a better story, but I liked 7s graphics and 3d better. This whole topic of ff games is where my name comes from, omega slayer, ive killed every omega weapon in every ff game out there, Yes I know they are called different from game to game, but you get the picture.

^^ haha, MGS2. What a waste of time. Who thought it would be a good idea to have a 40 minute cutscene to end the game along with a weak two minutes at max battle?
FF6 was the only one I played to completion, and it (mostly) rocked my socks off. The second half of the game trailed off a bit and the tight story got way to open-ended. It seemed like the developers ran out of time or stopped caring about it. Nonetheless it was an awesome game.
FF7 was lame. Lame story, lame characters, lame graphics, lame cutscenes, lame long-lasting battles. I went a few hours into it and never touched it again. FF6's story and characters were so much cooler and had me hooked right away.
I watched someone play through most of FFX. Let's just say that I must have been really really bored. I would never play that crap.
"Oh Tidus, I'm scared. I can never be as cool as my father."
"Yeah, well, I hate my father. He was mean to me..."
SHUT UP! QUIT BITCHING!

Yak: lol exactly
Omega: I didn't bite your head off. I was stating that FFX is a piece of s**t. So is 8 . . . Nine is way better then 8 . . . if you think Nine is the worst . . . you haven't played 8 lol.
See, it?s sad when people base their preference of one game over another because of the graphics. I mean, come on. When it comes down to it, it?s the gameplay, hands down.
MGS2 was fun, while it wasn't in a cut scene lol.
However, I know MGS3 will be awesome; Kojima specifically apologized for the amount of cut scenes in MGS2, and replaced almost all of it with gameplay. Which kicks ass.
And, yes, FFVI is amongst the greatest of the greats. (Previously released as FFIII in US on the SNES in case you didn't know).
All I was saying is that there are an insane amount of RPGs overlooked because their production value was lower and that's very sad.
Also, why did you say "I like older games too like Zelda and Mario" why didn't you use other RPG examples lol (jk, don't get your panties in a bunch!)
I can list off the top of my head 10 RPGs that are better then most of the FF games. But I digress. There are about three or four good Final Fantasy games in my opinion. I personally didn't like Tactics, but I'm not saying it's bad, I just didn't like it. (However, Fire Emblem rocks!).
There are so many out there and so many overlooked because of their graphics. I personally prefer 2d sprite RPGs then the 3d crap that?s out everywhere now. I mean, what the hell is wrong with side scrolling and aerial views?? NOTHING! sigh anyway, yell at me all you want, you're still wrong lol.
See, I want a full Mario game (even though Sunshine is great) to be like the first level in the Adventure mode on Smash Brother Melee. That would be great!

FFVII's boss battle music is amazing, best music in any game ever, always got me excited in the battles
FF8's "Liberali Fatalia" (not sure if thats the exact name) is really good, as is FFVII's "One Winged Angel" and "Shinra Wages a Full Scale Attack". Obviously avoid the midi versions and grab the orchestrated ones, they are much better.

I once tried splitting up the Temple of the Ancinents music (FFVII) and examining each part, which teaches you a lot about how each part is important in the piece. I'd love to see some music anybody here as written, I've tried myself and failed miserably.

I loved the music in the City of the Aincients (not the Temple, the forgotten City on the Northern Continent), as well as the Turks theme music and the Weapon theme music.

I had a module on MIDI on my uni course (a s**tty little optional thing) and in it I had to create a piece of music for a dog food advert. We were allowed to work from a source, so I chose to work from "Descendant of the Shinobi", Yuffie's theme tune, and funked it up a little to make it more playful, like a typical dog food advert theme tune. I'll happily shoot it off your way, but be aware its not an original composition, just a modification on an existing piece.
The fact I knocked it up the night before it was due in also makes it somewhat simplistic

Hornpipe: I play old ass games all the time, they're great. Nostalgia doesn't really come into play if the game is you know . . . GOOD. The game it's self should keep you entertained. I don't really consider any of my games to be nostalgic as I don't remember the first time I played most of them.
Yak: Damn straight!

Chrono-
Yes I agree with you many games are over looked because of their graphics, I was only mentioning that 7 was a hit because it set new standards for 3d "movies".
There is nothing wrong with 2d sprites, there isn't anything wrong with 3d either, just as long as the gameplay and story is well done (my opinion).
Well what are your top 3 ff hits then, im curious to know, im not looking to put anything down, im just wondering? So with all this I dont think you can call me "wong" because I do know what im talking about, unlike my other friends who say X was great (losers).

I didn't say hits, did I? If I did I meant three others that are better.
IV V VI (II V III American). . . all better then VII. I also said RPGs in general, but oh well.
The funny thing is, I know so many people who sold every game they had for their SNES so they could get a Playstation when FFVII came out, now they're pissed. Because VII wasn't that good of a game, I mean don't get me wrong it's not the perverbial crap that is FFX (or VIII OH GOD!). But it is by no means a great game. Yeah, woopdie doo it gave us FMVs . . . I hate FMVs now, they're too overblown, so you're technically saying FFVII is to blame lol.
There's too many RPGs (and I do mean turn based RPGs) To say the most popular one is the best (or even close) Which, I'm not attacking you or anything, is what you said.
I could list a bajillion more that are better then FFVII in my opinion as well. But then again, you'd probably never be able to check to see if I'm right or not, because you wont find copies of them.
I personally think Xenogears was better then most Final Fantasy games (staying in the squarecrap universe).
If you want to go outside of their publishing realm there's also:
Breath of Fire series (four games to date)
Lunar series (two games, in various incarnations)
Phatasy Star Series (I think they're up to 6 or 7, starting way back on the master system  )
Suikoden Series (very nice because your character builds from game to game, try finding 2, if you do let me know lol)
Arc the Lad (In several incarnations, this also allows you to move your character stats from game to game)
There's also Star Ocean, Wild Arms1 and 2 (I didn't care for 3), Grandia 1 and 2, and Persona2 and 1 (Play them in that order, you'll understand if you do lol). . . The list goes on. In fact (in my opinion) Square is one of the worst RPG makers. They seem to not want to make RPGs, but make movies and turn based action games insteadlol. But, this is all my opinion of course.
If you want some other series: Dragon Warrior is good(Dragon Quest outside of the U.S.) V and VI was never released here though
Then there's the generation before last (16-Bit generation) Which I haven't even mentioned. All those games you can find on the PSone or PS2 in some way or another.
If you want wonderful old RPGs:
Chrono Trigger (obviously)
Secret Of Mana
Gia (this was a weird ass game, but cool, I hope its the one I'm thinking of, it was more or less an Action RPG where you started as a FISH and evolved through time with gaining Experience and "upgrading" parts of your body . . . I always get the names confused with this other RPG made by ENIX about a kid who (surprise surprise) is the protector of the universe.)
Secret of Evermore
Dragon Warrior (1-5 6 and 7 are on PSone I believe). . . the list just goes on. I'm also not counting the newly released GBA remakes of old Japan releases, that weren't released here originaly of course.
There's a world of RPGs out there much better then Final Fantasy, however, there are some out there that are way worse. Like Parasite Eve 2. . .why? the first one was good, really good actually and innovative . . . why did they make its sequel a resident evil rip off????????????????????????????????????
sigh
My gaming thirst, sadly, does not comply with the average gaming market.

Well if you think about it its true, microsoft is to blame, giving off whole new crap that made other games strive to reach their goal of better graphicss and gameplay, when they concentrate on graphics and leave out gameplay all together, thats why older games are better, because of the old gameplay. really think about it.

Well, yes and no. But not in this case.
Because Microsoft had s**t for games when FFVII was made, also, you have to remember Microsoft doesn't draw as much water in other countries as it does in the U.S. (Besides other English Speaking, or simular, countries).
But to say MS is literally responsable for FFVII and the Graphics Movement, I don't think so. I mean, God, I love good looking games, they're great. But if they're not fun what the hell is the point? I have no problems with good graphics as long as the gameplay meets the par as well, and honestly the Bar isn't very high lately, because games have degraded over the years getting dumbed down for little kids and such. Ever played Ikaruga? now that's a game! The first level is harder then half the bosses in most action games on the hardest level.
But it's fun. Not to mention it still looks good (They uped the graphics from its predicesor on the Dreamcast).
Now, can microsoft be blamed for s**tty games? yes, yes they can.
Now someone might go, but Halo is made by Microsoft and it's good. Well, yes Halo is fun, but Microsoft didn't make it, they just published it (and got rights and all that garbage).
I know many people who're console and PC gamers, and on the console they perfer XBOX . . . WHY? they have a computer already! Not to mention, most everything that is good on the XBOX (All five games) can be found else where. (and the damn thing is the size of my VCR, Yikes).
sigh
Can anyone honestly think of a good game made by Microsoft and not something they just bought a company to do for them? lol
This is an honest question though, because I can't (And I do mean a GOOD game, none of that Midtown Madness crap).
Oh and to try to keep the thread on track: The only good thing about Chrono Cross was it's music, which was beautiful to say the least. (the game was a total let down though, damn Square and thier psuedo-innovation).
