Dude, Where's My Car? Gah. Even as far as stupid stoner movies, you can do better than that one. Cheech & Chong, Wayne's World, Bill & Ted (although the drugs aren't quite as explicit in the last two). Guess it's better than How High, though.

I saw American Wedding and it just seemed too slapped together. I mean, on the one hand you do have the incredible comedic talents of Eugene Levy, Fred Willard and Jennifer Coolidge, along with the very promising Alyson Hannigan, but instead for some reason it just seemed to focus on Sean William Scott accidentally embarassing himself while trying to impress some chick who really wasn't that great. I can't figure out why they stuck with that plotline, it just didn't have it. January's (I know some months make good girl's names, but is January really one of em?) character seemed to change every scene she was in, the rivalry between Finch and SWS seemed muted as there wasn't really any back and forth. That other friend became even more so a background prop than in the earlier movies. Another thing is a lot of the dialogue was written so that characters have temporary deafness, not being able to hear what's going on right in front of their face... But I guess high-brow adult comedy and not just a more explicit PG-13 gross-out was too much to expect.
Ya well like I said I felt stupider after seeing "dude you godda tatoo", but still it was funny none-the-less. As for American wedding it was slapped together, I thought it was the nice final ending to the American series. So Ill change my runner ups and replace it with all monty python movies (yes brave sir robbin), no matter what anyone says, i thought they were the best, although watching it over and over gets boring a little, but never the "ni"

i hate to bring up ageisms, but most of the replies here are from within your own lifetimes, don't any of you like B/W movies?

i am willing to bet money, there are old movies as good, or better than now ones, without the special effects, most movies now, rely on them quite heavily.

yes my list has now movies too, but it most definitely has old ones too.

Casablanca, African Queen, Moby Dick, Sargent York, Carbine Williams, Ten Commandments (stop laughing i am agnostic, but i still feel its a very good movie) , yeah, many old movies are excellent.

I like some old movies, but I don't often like watching them.

Orson Welles' movies always keep me rivetted though. "Citizen Kane" is quite amazing, and "The Third Man" is brilliant as well.

i think if the question was asked, what is the best B/W movies, id have to say

1) The old man and the sea.

2) Captains Courageous

3) Sargent York

4) African Queen

5) Mutiny on the Bounty

in that order

The Westerner and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance always rocked to me.

I'm not too big on the Romance Films (which were amazingly Ubundant) But Orph, they're not my favorites lol.

(The Usual Suspects isn't an action movie . . . it's more or less a Drama or suspense film).

Lol, Mattrats? that piece of funny garbage? (mixed statements I know)

"No way man, Lois could never have Supermans baby, the kid could kick right through her uterus wall, not to mention I bet he shoots a load like a shot gun right through her back"

Um, if you want to go older . . . There's always Bullet

Further down the list: snatch, lock stock and two smoking barrels, bandits, the fugitive, whitness, der kreiger und die keiserin, ferris bueller's day off, father goose, operation petticoat...

Young Frankenstein is B/W. Course, it was made that way cause they wanted to, not cause they had to. I've tried watching some older stuff, I have a copy of The Great Dictator on my comp that I haven't quite gotten through. The style is just entirely different, and sometimes I have trouble getting in to them because I'm not as aware of the social situations in which they were made.

As people should be able to see, my movie tastes really tend towards the humor end of things (hence the detailed analysis of American Wedding). I think the 70's marked a dramatic change in what goes into a comedy, with the rise of Mel Brooks, SNL, and Second City Alumni running around. It's kept changing, especially once those PG-13 ratings jumped in - Blues Brothers would never be made as it was today (hence Blues Brothers 2000, ugg). I think subtly humorous movies are really on the rise, with people like Wes Anderson, PT Anderson, Guy Ritchie, etc. making films.

Honestly I never thought of them as being in color. to me, Carry Grant = B/W even though it isn't true. but the point stands. great movies from long before my time. my parents raised me on old commedys and dramas. Carry Grant has got to be the biggest pimp of all actors, ever.

Yeah . . . yeah he is.

I love how in all the Romance films he's in he suspects his wife of cheating, which drives them apart, even though he cheats like mad on the wife (The Awful Truth). I don't really know much about Cary Grant as a guy, but as a film persona he seems like a smooth pimp; or an asshole depends on how you look at it lol.

not really, i watched all his movies and enjoyed most.. tho i tend to lean toward his comedy ones.

funny tho, other people have made similar comments, just as erroneously. i tend to think of it as being positive, about negative situations.

people whom cannot view negativity very well are never as happy as i am, they tend to be broodish.

anywhos, the ability to even see negative situations is an art unto itself, and most fail at it miserably, and i might add, they are usually the ones who think others only see negative sides of things..

looks closer at crono

nah, i was mistaken

the fact that i tell jokes that no one else gets, doesn't disqualify them entirely.. for most of the day, i am quite happy, but i do love the ability to see both sides of any topic.

grant was a great actor, grants only downfall was his choices in parners.

positive and negative

i have to laugh, my stepmom, when she first met me, overheard my views on ugly people, she said i was the most evil person she had ever met, i think at the time she was stone serious.

point is, she didn't get out much, i tend to think people whom think i only see negativity, don't get out much either.

i have met some pretty strange people in my time, i barely qualify on a scale of 1-10, and 10 being schizophrenic, i might be a 1.5

Why is it that no step parent ever likes their step-child? Ever? I know loads of people with at least one step parent (including myself), and hardly any of them get along. You would have thought that the chances of two basically random people liking eachother would be a bit higher.

Dude, Orpheous, I was kidding.

Believe me, I look at both sides most of the time. I was commenting on the fact that we were talking about how Mr. Grant was a Heart Throb so to speak then you pop in with something about his personal life (which I wasn't too keen on) and I just thought it was funny that you immediatly went "yeah, but he's gay", not in those exact words, but nonetheless.

Man, I've met some weirdos while waiting at school (Portland State) Random people walk up to you and make strange comments for absolutly no reason.

I remember I was waiting for Dad (Freshman year, 2 years ago) with my buddy, Tyler (whom I'm trying to get to come to this site instead of asking me for advice, which would come from my horribly lacking knowledge of mapping), and this guy, I couldn't tell if he was homeless or not because he had no shoes, smelt bad, but had un tattered clothes and a 200 dollar back pack. . . . Anyway, he was asking for change and what he said was "Hey, man do you have any change? If you say no I'll kill you . . . ha ha ha no, I'm f**kin' with you man, but seriously?" I'm like . . . whaa? "sorry I don't have change" and I didn't and he was like "oh man, oh well, thanks" and he went on. However, he kept commenting to me and my friend while he was getting rejected left and right (because he suddenly felt that hanging around us was a good way to pick up change). At one point he was like "man, it was easier to get change when I was doin' 20 in the pen" . . . Tyler started laughing as the man slowly whimsied away, but I stopped him and said "why was he in a penetenturary for 20 years!?!???!? Don't you get like 10 for Murder??" lol. So, I wasn't weirded out or anything, it was just amusing and disturbing all at once. Many, other indeviduals have approched me in time as well.

Also, I didn't mean to strike a perverbial nerve there, just crakin' a joke at your seemingly pessemistic attitude lol (It's a joke!)

But, yeah, my girlfriends parents hate me, without a doubt. Not to mention a bunch of other things which will not be mentioned here, to put it simply, they have problems, not nessesarily mental, but . . . some kind, and they're effecting more then themselves.

whew, ok, I don't mean to drag the thread down, it's picked up speed. Everyone loves movies I see lol.

How about this for a question.

What do you think (To date) is the best video game to movie adaptation or your favorite?

I think the first Mortal Kombat rocked, hard.
And again, I love Resident Evil, don't know why, but I do.
So, what are your guy's thoughts?

Oh and guess us "youngins' " know about old 40's films as well  (I even had to watch The Great Train Robbery, it's 8 minutes I think, it's the first movie ever made . . . filmed in NJ, the pioneering state . . . or New Yorks side kick, I can't remember which lol (not that there's anything wrong with NJ).)

i took it as you were not quite joking, but attempting humor none the less..

after you been here a bit, you'll realize that off handed comments like that rarely set me off, especially when there is so much truth to it.. i have never hid my thoughts about the gay community, i have learned thru trial and error, that most snarkpitters have NO sense of humor regarding them tho, so i try hard to be as lowkey as possible and still retain my right to say as i please.

I know you weren't mad, Orph, I felt no feelings of online hostility, that and you didn't CAPS my ass.

Dr.B: He was gayer then a lamp post in prauge . . . I don't know exactly what that should mean . . . but anyway.
I'm starting to remember one of the conversations we had in my film class after "studying" one of his films. We "discussed" his personal life, but just a little, yeah, gay. Not that that's uh . . . bad or anything, just a little decieving taking that onscreen he was a 40's-late50's pimp.

Just don't tell your mom lol.

Yeah, Mononoke Hime is pretty damn good.

Have you ever seen Demon City Shinjuku? (anime again)
I think I'm like the only person on earth who likes it lol.
Also, I'm really curious about a couple anime series' and the only way I could find out how they are is to buy them, but they're kind of expensive, so can anyone tell me if "Noir" or "The Dog Warriors ? The Hakkeden" are any good?

I'm also partial to: FLCL, Boogiepop Phantom, Lain

. . . and La Blue Girl (JUST KIDDING! No demon rape for me, thank you.).

I also saw that they're making Ghost in the Shell into a 9-DVD OAV  yay. Even though the movie is awesome, it doesn't do the manga justice, same thing with Akira, the manga is astronomically cooler then the film, even though the film is amazing on its own, they're basically two different stories.

Also, on a side note, the new Batman movie is going to kick ass. Why? Because DC and Warner Brothers are having NO say in what goes in the film  . Finally we'll have Batman acting like Batman, you know, all badass. Christian Bale (American Psycho, I believe) is playing Batman/BruceWayne. Christopher Nolan is directing (YES! Think Memento with Batman . . . with a little Following and Insomnia lol). And David Goyer is writing it (er wrote it, they're filming already). David Goyer wrote Blade, BladeII, and Blade3: Trinity, as well as directing it (Trinity that is).

I know I seem way too excited, but I love this stuff guys.

[EDIT]
DROOL That's awesome, Ralph.

Why do I think that movie is going to kick so much ass???

Yeah, in my writing classes my instructors always get pissed at me because they're like "150 words MAX" and I'll send something that's like 500 lol. It takes awhile for me to get my thoughts out properly. . . . I'll end the post here to avoid rambling which leads to long posts

You're not alone! I like anime too! I began to watch anime half a year ago or so, so I haven't seen very much. By the way have you ever seen Naruto? That's a very good series.

It's not a defect, thank you very much.

And on topic, I don't think too highly of "game-to-movie" crossovers. Most of the time they either try to shove random characters into a games storyline, or force the characters into roles that they weren't designed for. Some characters do just exist in order to kill s**t. They don't have the depth to "love" or "hate" as such, and I hate it when people think they can make a few quick bucks by extending the character and trying to tack on some depth..

No, Otz, I haven't seen it and I was talking about that particular movie lol

Demon City Shinjuku, everyone I've asked about it hated it and I can't figure out why, the movie is badass.

Here's some other random anime crap I like lol:
Aramtage OAV (Badass)
Iria OAV (even more badass)
X (the series, The movie is TOO depressing, but Camp kicks mundo ass in my opinion)
Ninja Scroll (Sensless violence/nudity, but goddamn it has some good action and animation  )

Then of course there's the serieses everyone else watches too
Cowboy Bebop, I can't even count how many times people have gone "where'd you get the DVD's individually I can only find the box set", The answer, of course, is IN 1999, I think it's spread out over 8 DVDs now, and the Favorite Sessions DVD's are a joke.

Alright, I like Trigun as well, but only after episode 8 lol. Because it gears more towards the manga, which is dark and gruesom. I wish they would make an entire full length feature based on episode 17 or 18, I can't remember which, its the one that explains how they got there, that would be awesome!

I, unlike many, also dig Outlaw Star, I don't care how over played it is, it's a good series.

I used to like Tenchi OAV when I first started watching anime . . . grew out of that really fast, however, the first movie Tenchi in Love is so awesome, words can't describe it . . . oh man . . . Kain . . . what a bass-ass . . . and Atchica, Tenchi's mom, she's pretty damn powerful.

Ok, I could go on for hours here lol.

Some other movies I've enjoyed are:
BioHunter (Not sure why)

Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door (Yes, that is the title for the movie, they just didn't translate that part).

DBZ Movie 12 (Oh man. Awesome, doesn't make much sense, but cool nonetheless)

Akira, Ghost in the Shell (DUH!)
Blood (Needed to be longer . . . much longer)

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (Now, I loved the first one as much as the next guy, but dammit, most of it just didn't make sense lol Except the end . . . )

The Animatrix (It counts! Except Final Flight of the Osiris, god, what trash, except for when she's delivering the package)

Uh. hmm, I've seen so many . . .

Spriggan, Metropolis, uh . . . well, those are all off the top of my head.

OH! Twighlight of the Dark Master . . . Short but sweet.

By the way, Armatage: Duel Matrix blows ass chunks. . . . .

Monqui, I agree, but! There are good adaptations out there.

I'm not talking about Super Mario Brothers . . . ew . . . even as much ass as Dennis Hopper kicks, he couldn't even liven up that s**t-fest.

But, I totally meant the FIRST Mortal Kombat movie . . . Annihilation was . . . oh God . . . I don't want to re-live it.

But the first one was good, actually it was really good. Characters had the same amount of depth they had in the game (if you cared to read the manual lol)

I know Resident Evil is a s**tty movie, but I don't care, I still loved it. It's probably because Paul W. Anderson is such a good director. And I think I'll love Apocalypse as well, simply because it picks up exactly where the first one ended, in the middle of Racoon city . . . oh man.

But, Lets see, some really bad adaptaions . . . Street Fighter . . . oh god . . . I actually feel bad because that was Raoul Julia's (I totally buchered his name) last film before he died . . . and it's such a piece of crap, and he was a such a awesome actor.

Something else good . . . . . . . . . which was a game first . . . . . . . . . Yeah, I think MK is it lol. That's why I asked everyone, because that's all I could think of.

you said your part, i said mine.. and no battles ensued.. we are learning..

monkee, i cannot help the way i feel, if it is proven to be a born trait, it is a defect, a fixable one, if i am right though and it is a learned thing, then you are correct, it is not a birth defect.

i think we are old enuff to have both says.. lets just hope science solves this issue soon.

Because if science has shown anything in the past, it's that irrefutable proof on a touchy subject is immediately accepted by all parties involved.

See, any fact becomes an opinion. Fact: We're experiencing global warming on a scale of a few degrees a year, which is killing extremely temperature sensitive reefs in the Carribean and off Brazil. Opinion: I don't feel any global warming.

All I'm saying is that science will never "answer" the human sexuality question, especially not the way you suggest. There's too many opinionated people.

Not as such, but I'm taking Natural Resource Economics right now, which is basically where ecology and human development meet.
