So I made a server for Half-Life 1 Deathmatch, and would like to know what maps are recommended (popular and played on many servers)

Does anyone know some good maps?

Thanks!

ps: Is this the right sub-forum to place this topic on?

Oh I used to play HLDM with my brothers a lot. Hmm there's a lot of maps that we played that I loved, just can't remember right now. I know I really loved playing Orphs Deja_Vu_2, had a nice feel to it and great playability. While we're at Orpheus might I also suggest False_Accretion. Beautiful map, quite big too if you're going to play it on a server with lots of people. CM Arena by ReNo is also a really nice map.

Hmm I can't think of others at the moment, but there are lots more. Look around on the Pit, you'll find them :)

Done.

Here is the last version of it. I found it here in SnarkPit's folders outside the site itself, and have made many copies of it since so that we don't risk losing this jewel. It was known as the Snark Pitcrew Map or 'spc.' Be sure to look around for all the original member's names in their respective areas. I can't believe I didn't think to mention this to you before Niborius. Good idea Aaron. :hee:

Well, just for clarification, this was SnarkPit's FIRST compilation map. The one we've been working on for the past year is the NEW one for HL2DM, the download link I posted above is for the original compilation map for HL1DM made back in 2003 or '04 I believe.

The current one is not finished yet, but has made great headway, I just haven't thought it was worthy of posting until the next release. (which should be before Christmas).

[EDIT]: That's why I've named the new one with the prefix: "spcm2" for: "SnarkPit Compilation Map 2". And as a side note, the release we'll be making before Christmas won't be the finished release, but it will have all the areas completed. From there on it's only a matter of getting the train working, and placing weapons.
(I'm currently finishing up the last of the train tunnel models for that release).

Who me? Lol yeah I actually had trouble finding HL1 was hidden away somewhere. I'm with Source of course, I'm the one who's been talking the most about Episode 3 and how I need medication to help me wait for it

No, the last version of the snarkpitcrew map is beta7. Beta 7 is entirely complete minus the weapon placement, which I felt became impossible without deleting other people's work (especially parts of GrimlocK's area). If the weapons were there it would be a sweet 32 player map but alas...
Anyways, about HLDM maps...

Orph has much better maps than those two, namely apex_v2 and no_patience. cm_arena is a good map I agree.

Yeah good luck with that, a ton of maps have broken links either through the Snarkpit upgrade or through old filesites going down.

Turkeyburgers blows, just like all rats/killbox maps.

Recently I've been sorting through a huge stack of HLDM maps to find the good ones. Good ones I could then create jumbot waypoint files for so I could play them offline. I've also been writing microreviews of them for my own entertainment. 7 and higher is a strong suggestion. I've only gotten through 160 maps so there's plenty more good ones besides just these:

apex_v2 -8- rock solid map that fixes many issues of the original, good layout, good weapon placement
apohldm6 -7- good layout, good connectivity, a mild case of hallwayitis –too many hallways not enough rooms
apohldm7 -7- decent layout, good connectivity, a mild case of hallwayitis –too many hallways not enough rooms
apohldm8 -8- solid layout, good connectivity, cool traps, decent weapon placement, plays fast
apohldm9 -9- solid layout, good connectivity, good weapon placement, a good water-featured map (hard to find)
apohldm10 -8- solid layout, connectivity could be improved but it’s not bad, interior very good, outdoor rockwork is pretty crappy with lots of snags and holes you can fall in with no way out –ugly too, good weapon placement
apohldm11 -10- close combat lover’s dream, tight fast and brutal, good layout, good connectivity
apohldm12 -8- good layout, connectivity not as good as it could be, not a lot of breathing room in some of the hallways, good rpg placement, hivehand trap is a joke –who uses the hivehand and who would bother going out of their way to get it?
cataclysm -8- I MADE THIS MAP, solid layout, aesthetics are less than ideal, sweet egon placement if I do say so myself
cm_arena -7- exquisite outdoors area let down by symmetrical and simplistic indoors area
dm_rep4 -7- good layout, ok connectivity, good weapon placement, visuals aren’t great
dm_valor -8- good connectivity, good weapon placement, good flow to the map, looks nice
echo -8- good map for small games, good layout, good weapon placement
kndyone -7- lighting is way too dim, other than that a solid conversion of a solid op4 map
seneca -8- solid 1v1 map, achieves what it attempts to do
zeromancer -8- good map for smaller games, good flow, good connectivity, decent layout

ugh the amount of shit I've plowed through in the process makes my stomach turn!

There was a mapper with extraordinary talent out there, I can't quite seem to remember his name, but he had a couple of really awesom maps. Fling was one of them, and he also had a map which had a giant treehouse on anisland setting, and another one in a Mayan-like temple setting. I wanna say Peter something-er-other, but it eludes me for now. Great HL1 maps though.

Peter Manson

I know of at least five maps by him: plateau, rebirth, merlin, fling, eden
If I remember correctly eden and plateau both ruled, fling sucked, and never played merlin or rebirth
Here's some other authors and dm maps that I remember are good:
Scary-one: enraged2, outcry, havoc, scary_1, scary_2, scary_2snr

Wolf: lost_village, lost_village2

Geese: rigor

Gustavo: gustavo16_elimjnr, gustavo24_lw .... there's more but I can't remember which ones are which

umm I'm sure there's more

dm_mountain Hamlet was also one of those HL1 maps whic made my jaw drop when I first saw it, back in the late 90's.

Yes, Yak, thats him Peter manson. Awesome maps.
Gustavo was also a very good mapper.
Did'nt he also do a great (but freakin huge) Aliens map of the Marine ship?
I remember a couple of good Aliens maps by several different authors.

Although I am a bit shocked to see my maps posted as favorites I am pleased none the less.

Peter Manson is a member here under the name "Pedro Nuns" or somesuch, and since the search option sucks bulls ass, I cannot find his account. But I am sure they are 1 and the same.

My favorite maps still are the default ones.. Excepting any with func_trains. :D

My favorite authors call Snarkpit home, and it would be unfair to say one is top, when there are 2 or 3 dozen whom could easily hold that title.

My least favorite author has a Rock for a head and needs to see a Doc.

The best things in life, aren't things.
