I would play with a more gray-er tone for a concrete cast-in-place.
Looks like a good place for a game scene to occur! Looks real nice too. Lighting fits, and the trees looks pretty darn detailed. Also, nice backdrop, I'd like to believe it's a flat image though

And yeah the backdrop is just a photo on a plane which saved me loads of work!aaron_da_killa said:What school are you taking that course in?
A quick scene I did up in Cinema 4D which is the modeling program we use for the game dev course I'm doing.

aaron_da_killa said:Good idea. I'll try that on the in-game texture.
Pretty good! Although it has no distinct features (a good thing) to give away the fact that it is tiling, it's quite low res so it may still appear to tile from a distance. It could also do with some sharpening it's quite blurry, just in photoshop filter > sharpen > sharpen once or twice will do the trick.
aaron_da_killa said:I'll try this too, if I find a wall which is high enough. But even that big, the texture looks nice.
Looking at your source photo, maybe next time you could take the photo a bit further away from the wall too which will give you a better result provided you have enough megapixels to still be able to capture the detail of the individual bricks from that greater distance.
"Niborius" said:I know I said I think I was finished but I think I'd like to work on it a bit more and I think one of the things would be to add a mouse and keyboard to the scene.
Hey where is the mouse n keyboard? ^^
"Riven" said:The wood surface the computer is on is a desk. If you look to the right you can see the edge of the desk.
Would you sit on the floor while you use that?
"Riven" said:There is subtle light coming from the lava lamp. The surface of the desk surrounding the lava lamp, the blinds and the letter on the right have a pinkish tint from the lava lamp.
Also, there's no lighting coming from the lava lamp?
"Riven" said:I hate heights in real life so I thought it would have been exciting for me for this scene to take place in some sort of high rise building. What you see outside the window is a night time photo of Tokyo.
And boy that must be in a high-rise apartment, because it looks like the city view is pretty far down!

I gotta say, I could never do character models. I can't draw organic people, and I could definitely never build monster/character models. That's just a field I envy for those who can. And, if you can master this, then more power to ya!

"Riven" said:I'm in the same boat as you. I never thought I would be able to model characters either but it turns out there are ways you can and you don't need to posses some sort of magic powers as I once thought.

Crono said:Oh defiantly, one step ahead of ya
I guess I should tell you this now before you get too far ahead ... he needs a cane.
:
"aaron_da_killa" said:I haven't modeled the cane yet because I'd like to add the bones first (which are required for animation) so I can move his arm down to see how long the cane needs to be and so I can get it looking right and such. And before I add the bones I want to finish texturing the rest of the character.
Then I'm gonna model love heart shaped glasses and a walking stick and get those textured to.
Perhaps also make a little stick of Old Spice next to him for the reference "Crono" said:Well, I'm not really modeling Terry Crews just using his face. But I also think that this character and Terry Crews are relatively as bulky as each other except for the arms.
Terry Crews is greatness. But not fat ... you should slim him down.
