When I open the first page of the "Recently found" topic, I looked at the dates of the posts. I figured that today we are ALLOT less active.
What happened to them? Why have they left? Did they forgot about us?
So I think we should search for them and remind them that we are still alive.
What do you think?

Most of them just grew up and moved on with their lives I imagine. Others quit mapping altogether. And others moved to different community sites.

We don't have a mass-e-mail feature here on the pit, but if we did, I'd totally use it for some of the competitions we host.

And actually, I'm pretty proud with how well we've done as a website community. I mean, there have been other community websites, that like ours, were a beacon of mapping talents and articles. But they fell by the wayside, survived only by their Steam community group and IRC chatrooms. The most recent has been http://www.iwannamap.com Who's site is completely gone and their Steam group turned to private. We've gone on way longer and we're still hosting competitions. We get new maps added periodically, and we still get site updates thanks to larchy. I'd say we're still in the game and a long-shot from ever disappearing.

I like this place too much to let that happen! :wcc:

Yeah people are busy myself included. I haven't been doing much Source engine stuff lately, just so damn busy! But I'm always keeping an eye out for map releases that interest me and I check the forums here pretty much every day.

I understand that they are busy. But it's like they even have no time to check what is going on here, to post a comment for a map (in order to help mappers make the map better) or to share something with us. I'm busy too, but I still visit the pit every day.

I don't know if will become really busy in the future, but I'll try to visit this site when ever I can.

Personally,I'm at the 9'th school year and I still have 3 school years left to beat. But when I get into university... Well, this is somewhere in the future.

I used to chomp at the bit to get my internet connection back but now its really not all that important to me. Snarkpit just doesn't have the allure anymore. It used to be the center of my time but...

Anywho's since its allegiances are nowhere near as important as they used to be tis no real reason to post. When its as easy as its become to forget whom did what..

I used to wonder myself the "WHY's and HOW's" of people moving on away from here, now that I've joined them I know..

Think about it, our most active member is a lump of coal wishing he were a diamond if only he could take the pressure...

I have to agree with Muhnay here, you have been complaining for so long, and yet you are staying here.

Yes, I miss the old snarkpit as well (and yes I know what it looks like), but changing is not a problem, even if some things get worse ´cause of it (Think of youtube´s new thumbs up & down system).

I would agree with morph, I can't say iv'e visited the pit for years myself! Rather than 1 random xmas post year or so back.

Given I only came on to see out of random interest if anyone had made a "River" map for DM2 [River from Gears 2], Then thought, I'll see what interesting things I can see on the forums! Used to spend a fair amount of time aimlessly bantering!

I guess hi to those who remember me!

Howdy! Probably not the most charming "returning" post lol, but I had my time of thinking "I miss the good ole days". I guess I lost my interest once HL2 was released and thought "yeah, I just can't map this" I found it hard enough mapping HL1 stuff lol!

Yeah, I used to play horde on that map! Tis good fun. I probably spend more time watching house mates play it than actually play it myself heh! My gaming interest declined rapidly over the past 6 months due to lots of personal changes!

Nice to see the pit is actually still up and running!

Yeah the pit is still running, but it's not as active as before, so I've heard.
I already know snarkpit since 2004 or so, and I always downloaded HLDM maps here to play with bots. I was always interested in making a map, but never tried it since it looked just too hard for me (Also I was like 8 or 9 years old there).

Last year I came back again, and was interested in actually becoming part of the community. So I did, and I made some maps for HL1DM and eventually for L4D as well.

Anyways, do you think you will stay with the snarkpit again for some time?

Yeah It did used to be quite the booming forums, but that was some time ago!
No idea when I knew about the site, when it was (.com I think), I was kinda young myself back then!

I got quite interested in mapping at some point, Made one map for The specialists, then stopped after that really, when HL2 was out I did give it a try and it was just so daunting I gave up.

In terms of staying active? I'm unsure. Life events have changed dramatically lately, and considering what has happened since my last postage?.. quite a lot.

With the, loosing of the job last week, split up from a 4 year relationship November last year, Moved out of home that month also with 3 other school mates. Only just started drinking this year [Which I stopped couple months ago due to my first "over drinking encounter"], and going out to a club that actually has descent music. Going out has kinda been more of an interest!

Moving back home to live with parent this week though, and thankfully In another relationship which has been going very well so far!.

So, with other stuff on top of that, and my interest in computers and gaming at a minimum. I can't say an "I will" or "I won't".. I shall try pop in every once and a while! Typically just check Facebook nowdays [and job hunt as of last week].

Yup, I'm busy now finally after 4 years of torture and life wasting on MMO's because it was a better excuse than talking to the ex!

Correct you are!, Made from some fan art! Iv'e been watching it every week on the release, as well as reading the manga too. I love it!! Including Shippuden there's 382 episodes of the cartoon, The cartoon bit is at one of my fav parts of the storyline!!
If you like the original serious you'll Love the Shippuden ones, they come back slightly older.
The written manga itself is about err, I'd say 9 / 12 months ahead of the cartoon, so may be worth reading those too!

I won't spoil anything, but its one of the only Anime I actually enjoy watching (Although the short series of Hellsing was pretty good)

I should probably make a new sig! I have a few others but I couldn't be bothered to use them, and I'm far too lazy to make one right now!

I have a friend who has all the mangas and seen all episodes available, just like you did actually heh :hee:

He forced me to watch Bleach before and that is just such a good anime, it's the first anime I really started watching from episode 1, and not just random episodes at tv. I am at episode 222 now I think, but I'm having a small pause there and that's what made me watch Naruto I guess. What I noticed so far in Naruto is that the episodes are getting more fun to watch one by one

I did try to watch bleach, but I just couldn't get into it. I'm not really a massive fan of Anime to be fair, but Naruto I just love!, The characters, the storyline, the idea's of their personality really gripped me!.

It does get far better, it gets better the further in you get. You do get the odd "joke / filler" episodes in the cartoon but they are typically still quite good!

Not in busses any longer, but yeah, still cross country. Now its big trucks again. I am currently in Salt Lake City Utah.

And, to answer the question why I bother returning.. I dunno. Other than there are only 7 people my senior here in time and none of them would stoop so low as to ask. Yep, I adore being an asshole, only this time I detected no place in this thread where I was one??? My comment was rather open ended and could have been referring to anyone, including myself. 12,000+ posts not withstanding.

Perhaps a bit of self examinations are in order... Perhaps a LOT! Seems being an asshole isn't specifically an oldtimer aspect.
