I'm looking for some sound effects to fit in with my flatshaded map, things like beach sound effects including breaking waves, seagull chatter, and so on. Anybody know of any good sites where you can get royalty free sound effects? Preferrably in wav format so I can throw them straight into HL

There were a couple of suitable ones at that actually Forceflow, ta. I also found another site with some ideal but very long mp3 sound effects.
Which leads me to the question, how long a sound effect can HL support? Come to think of it, what format exactly do sounds need to be. I know they need to be in wav files but what sample rate, and should they be mono or stereo? Any details would be appreciated. Come to think of it thats kinda an editing question...

I dont know the info ReNo, but my best guess would be to look at the original Half-Life music and sounds, that should give a fair indication.

heh Thanks I could use that. I've got songs that have like 10 seconds at the end with no sound so I think I'll remove that. Makes it easier to DJ without having to make comments on every music file.

I've gotten 4-minute songs to play out of ambient_generics, but they were low quality WAV files...
