I know many of you aren't fans of the black/yellow design, so if you have a better idea for the site (or just for this topic viewing page) fire away here!

some dislike it..??

personally, i find it the best, it is easiest to read, and least harsh of all so far.

I too like the yellow on black a lot, though I'm not against you adding more, purely because I LOVE the snarkpit getting more and more developed for some reason.

...Is that really sad? :sailor:

Not really. Would be interesting to see how this site develops. Alot of the best mappers hang around here so in the future I could see this place being some uber 1337 underground hiding place

quite a few of the best mappers left hang out here myrk..

as much as i love this site, which i sincerely hope there is no doubt of.... snarkpit has a fairly small percentage of the best mappers out there... sadly i feel only due to the games age.

a small portion though is due to our attitudes on mapping, which i helped to instill.. most of the major mappers think of themselves as elite to the area, and we promote all levels of experience.

i would never change our attitudes on that point, but it does keep our cadre' somewhat smallish.

But we are also creating a new generation of mappers. We are US. Besides, when HL2 comes out within the next 10 years or so maybe we'll have more mappers then. And Snarkpit will thrive.

As for the theme issue, I love this black yellow greenish. I've browsed the other ones once and didnt much like them, but to everyone their tastes

I think the other ones could be great (particularly the retro blue and white...ah the memories  ) but they aren't very well implemented at the moment, they just don't seem to work properly.

I'd say VERC seems to have a higher percentage of the "1337" mappers still working with the HL engine - in other words the Natural Selection mappers, Nightwatch mappers, etc... However here at the snarkpit we have a great variety of skill levels and yet everyone takes everyone's opinions on board. I've no great experience of the VERC community, but from what I've seen, it can't match what we have here

Its not so much a "lets get rid of the black and yellow colour scheme" more an option to view it different colours for people who dont like black..

Indeed, black is certainly full of benefits, such as being easy on the eyes, and providing a great background for viewing screenshots against. But that doesn't mean some people wouldn't like a new theme...

I like the themes. As an afterthought, People only use black or white backgrounds on their site, other colours look garish.

What Reno said, I'm not getting rid of it at all. Just thinking about adding new optional ones is all, and was hoping someone would design something in Paint/Photoshop and post a concept pic  Be nice to have a decent white-background theme, mainly.

When you say photoshop a new theme, do you mean like... take a screenshot of a thread page, then alter it in a way that looks nice, and has a light background? What kind of constraints are there? Do you want them for condensed or normal view, and does this even matter?

I think he just means give some visual indication of a theme, be it an edited screen capture, or a quick "from scratch" knock up in photoshop, or whatever. Just something showing what colour everything would be, to show if it looks nice. As for normal or condensed, I would assume show how normal would look and then the condensed version would be easy enough to guess.

Hmmm, the good old days

It does still have a few issues but big improvement to the classic theme all all round. The sidebar on the left doesn't look quite right on a lot of pages still - was it black below the links on the old snarkpit site?

OK, here's my attempt at a sort of minimalist white background theme. The spacing around the bar that has username and contact methods is a bit big, but I couldn't change that without spending hours trying to figure out what the hell is going on in the html for this place

<a href="http://themonster.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/simple.gif" target="_blank">User posted image</A>

I suppose most people like more colour... it would be easy to change a couple of things to 'gold' or 'green' without making it look to horrible I guess  Oh and I edited the snark.gif to have transparency but it didn't turn out very well. I hate editing images

I think it looks quite cool, though I'm quite firmly taken by the classic theme now, and I don't think I'll be budged

EDIT: This leaves me with a dilemma - I could change my avatar to the white background variant I made at the same time so it looks right on my theme, but then it would look a bit naff to everyone else...argh the decision making process!

Throw a little border around it, and make the BG color a relatively dark grey (or just leave it black.)
