cocky?? (See US/Coalition thread)

Why not "cocky"?

"cocky" is a perfectly innocuous word meaning "self confident" or something similar, and not synonymous with "knob-like" as is implied by the use of asterisks.

This kind of thing makes me livid - feeling we have to pander to the over sensitive. Who, in God's name, could be offended by the word "cocky"? And if anybody is, why should we care?

I'm all for polite speech, good manners and so on, but when it all boils down there are only two "proper" swear words in English that can shock, and one of those doesn't...much. Besides which, "f*ck" would probably offend the easily offended every bit as much as it would if it was spelled out in full.

Or am I over reacting?

The filter isn't context sensitive. To it, you're not saying "c**ky," you're saying "c**k" with a y running into it.

c**kgreasdfyyrerasy isn't a word, but the same thing applies there.

Oops! So I see.

Why edit, though. If the edited version conveys the same thought as the unedited version, what difference has it made?

Probably for the kids around who don't know what it could mean? (Word Censoring always turns out strange in the end).

Talking without swearing, that's so (f**king) constipated. Fortunately the swearing filter doesn't erase all the word. So it's not very hard to guess what word starts with "f" and ends with "k-e-r"

did you chose that to be? or is it some randomized thing?

cockpit, although a reference to a planes control area, could be construed as a perverted mesh of penis and snarkpit.

anywhos, it has always been my opinion, that any word that has been substituted for another, becomes that word, with all of its connotations, so darn, equals damn, and pee is the same as piss,as well as gosh darn is as bad as god dammit..

placing astrix in place of letters, dilutes them not one iota.

in all fairness though. i would care little to see endless juvenile profanities, so its truly a no win situation..

The idea is that if you already know the word, you can still read the sentance the word is in, but if you are a kid who doesn't know the word, you can't be taught it by this site. If you have never heard the word f**k, then there are loads of different things that f-*-*-k could be.

i may have taken the scenic route in asking, but it was a serious inquirey..

what sort of process is involved with corralling cuss-words out of a post?

i mean, its not picky, asshole slips right thru, and its far and away worse than cocky..

i was just curious, it was not intended as an inflammatory reply.
