Is it as good as TNG or Voyager? I haven't seen a single episode of it yet, but was a dedicated fan to both TNG and Voy. Didn't get into DS9, tbh, at all...

i am a trekker to the core, and IMO enterprise takes trek into a whole new area..
it predates kirk and the pre-established genre' most think of when asked "Trek"
the new captain is nothing like any of the others... he is more "peoplish" or normal...
i think its second only to TNG and much better than its 1st two seasons.. TNG took to season 3 to get really good.. enterprise did it from day #1

I must admit, ive only watched a couple of episodes of Enterprise, but TBH i really didn't like them at all. TNG and TOS obviously reign supreme, but even so i liked Voyager and DS9. Maybe I just havent watched enterprise enough, but from what ive seen it is a disgrace to Star Trek.

Voyager was the coolest series, though Enterprise had a wicked episode when they first discovered the Borg frozen in Ice and they dethawed.... non of them little scientists had decent guns

Forget that, SNL starts season 29 on October 4th with host Jack Black! Following that, the rumor mill is tossing out the venerable Norm MacDonald for October 11th and the lovely Halle Berry for October 18th. Should be absolutely rocking.

Well TNG is obviously the best (if not the originals). I liked DS9 in the later seasons with the war and such. Voyager just generally stunk in my eyes; especially later in the show, where it reduces the Borg to a generic, defeatable faction like all the other races. And Enterprise... Bleh.

Forgive me if this sounds bitter but I am almost disgusted with Enterprise. To begin with, I am a huge trekkie. My personal collection is valued at over 20,000.00 dollars. I even hired the key rigger from Voyager and three of the features to rig for me on Firefly last year(He was a shoe in ya know, and yes, christmas was good to me, hehe). Gene Roddenberry is turning over in his grave in this show. Star Trek history , all encompassed in an established line of TV, books, and movies has all been unwritten and twisted to facilitate this obvious milking of a cash cow. Everybody who really knows Trek lore knows the first Captain of an interstellar class(warp drive) Enterprise was an englishman named Robert April (btw, his security officer was George Kirk, James T Kirks father,).Not to mention all the new "Aliens" and other such nonsense that have been nowhere to be seen in 35 years of writing save for this show.Rick Berman and Brannon Braga should be stripped of their respective titles and positions for even thinking this was a good idea, in its current form.
Even the writing is shabby. I sat through about 5 minutes of a complete rip off of Enemy Mine the other night and I could'nt keep watching. It's embarrasing. I will always be a Star Trek fan, and will occasionally watch an episode of Enterprise should it hold my interest, but more often than not they just are'nt worth the effort.
There, I got that off my chest.
(Pops open Heineken)
Hope all is well guys.

for the record, the enterprise kirk commanded was a very old ship, it had two preceding Capitan's before him, being pike, and april..
while april commanded the ship, it was not even known at that time as enterprise, if my memory serves me correctly, it got the name after april and george kirk were lost with all hands on a completely different ship... and sometime about then pike ended up with it...
pike had the ship for 11 years or so prior to kirk, and kirk had it about 10 years, before he blew it up... so the original enterprise was a very old ship..
my point... the new series takes place quite a number of years even before april.. especially considering the top speed of each ship is warp 5 and warp 8 respectively... time-line wise, thats roughly 50 to 100 years..
also if i remember correctly.. this new series is just a few decades after first contact.. so anything is possible...
accept the show for what it is, not what you would have it be.. either like it, or don't, but please don't compare it to the other shows... remember, when TNG came out, there was an uproar from the old-school trekkers, it was a disgrace they claimed... and look how well it did at the end of its 7 year run.... i think this new show will fair at least as well as the rest..

Since you're kinda in showbiz, Juim, I've got a bit of a question for you. In almost every movie, there are a few people listed as "Grips" (best Boy and best Dolly being two of them). WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY? Are they just like assistants to the stars or what? I've been trying to figgure it out for a long time now...

also, just another thought about names of ships in relation to the trek universe..
there is a big difference between the aircraft carrier and the shuttle, yet they shared the names..
the shuttle wasn't even space worthy either, so go figure..
there is a good chance that the creators of this new show, have no intentions of linking this enterprise to kirks or picards.. since from kirks time onward they bore numbers and letters..
i am not going to over Analise this show, just to make people who dislike it feel better about themselves.. i watch it first and foremost because i like anything trek (yeah i watched all the trek cartoons as a child) and secondly, i like any show that stars scott bakula in the lead roll... so there you have it, a winning combination IMO, that very few can bitch about

Let me sidestep this thread for a second, to ask how many of you are fans of Doctor Who? I friggin LOVED Who when I was a kid. It came on PBS, and I can remember just freaking out because sometimes they would have DW marathons. The Dalek were the s**t! EXTEEERIMAAAAATE! I've actually thought that a Doctor Who singleplayer mod could be pretty sweet.
sorry, back to Star Trek.

Only thing I remember about Doc Who was the beginning of the show, flying down something like a worm-hole and the weird bizarro techno theme music.
Also some of the sets I remember looked like something they set up in their garage with cardboard and trash cans.

Yes, and that was it's charm. I think shows like that, where the props are cheesy and obviously 'props' kind of engage your imagination a little more. B movies rock, also.

Its nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get virii through movies and music files. All they are is stored data- nothing more. No code is executed when you open an MP3 from the mp3 itself.
Its kinda like saying that plain txt files can contain virii, and you;ll be infected when you open them up in notepad. They can, but nothing will happen, since notepad only decodes the input file (the txt) and outputs the info onto the screen.

Very impressive Juim. You're in the L.A. area right? Would you be able/willing to show off your set to someone in the area? I go to Simi Vally all the time, which happens to be just north of L.A. (travelling from San Jose area), You might be too busy or unable but it would be totally awesome to see your work first hand.

mp3's cant contain virus's, oh yes they can. for example, you may use windows media player or winamp / smth simlar to play your mp3's --- whenever a program like that rips the information from the header section of the file, scripts can be executed at the sametime, from within the file. scripts can do whatever they like...
films are worse, they are normaly compressed with, say something like divx or xvid ? you can use a program called a ' binder ', which binds one file as a parent, say a divx encoding file, and a virus. Whenever the parent is accessed, the child file can be executed. What is stoping someone from binding a virus into a divx encoding file, and then encoding hundererds of movies... 'eh ?
