i was looking through our member list and noticed, that I have one of, or the oldest ICQ account here..

I haven't actually used my account in a while, but it is still active as far as i know..

does anyone have an account older than mine?

34917705

just curious for nostalgia reasons, it used to be my only mode of communication online

IMO, it is the best, but.. it also holds a lot of history i am not willing to dredge up ATM

it has all the perks all the others have, and more..

sadly, all i use now is msn messenger, a shadow of ICQ

ICQ was great when I used to use it due to the fact everyone else did too. Now that everyone is using MSN, it seems pointless. Its chock full of pointless features and is much slower than MSN (or was last I checked).

Anyway, I never use it, but my number is 28651662 (wierd I still remember that by heart!)...so I beat you Orph

I used to use ICQ alot cos I know quite a few people on it but now they all use msn si I use that as well I also preffer msn cos it loads a lot quicker and unless ICQ have put it in then msn is the only one i know that lets you have audio conversations and also lets you use your webcam with it.

Heres my ICQ number 113497846.

[EDIT] I did have a older one but I couldnt remember the password for it.

I can remember most phone numbers and stuff. Not addresses though, usually just phone numbers and maybe ID numbers and all that. I thought lots of people could do it

Oh. Yeah. ICQ. 174268442, so I'm a lot newer to it than you guys

i got my ICQ number, sometime in 1999..

fragman, i am not talking about memorizing numbers you use daily, i am talking about numbers from 30-35 years ago, no longer needed or use to my knowledge.. addresses from the same age as well..

to recall them after more than a quarter century is... unusual

in my experience, people i tell this to can remember less than a few years worth of numbers.

I don't know about a quarter century, but some numbers from maybe 10 years or so I can remember quite well. Doesn't matter too much I suppose.

well, i find it unique.. your ability is not as common as you may think.. 10 years is on the low side, but you are not very old yet neither.. still i remember phone numbers from age 12, and addresses from age 6 or 7.. so how old you are is not nearly as important as, how early you can retrieve them from

10 years, is no small feat, when you considre how old you were 10 years ago.

I don't remember my first ICQ account number but I got it in my second year of Uni which was 1998, so I could stay in touch with my HL clan buddies (aaah...fond memories of being beaten to a pulp by ReNo!)

I still use ICQ, but hardly any of my contacts on there do anymore. I only use it because the option is there in Trillian really.

other than a few instances, the people i brought with me from prefabland are all i knew prior to coming here.. in essence it was square #1 for me, but in truth, i was here (according to my join date) about 4 days after its debut.

i knew 100's of people while fragging, but damned few came to snarkpit.. in fact, i know more here, who knew the same people i did, but never met during a frag

we all traveled the same exact circles, yet were on another portion of it while doing so.

i believe, the only member here who not only joined before me, but i knew him prior.. was supercrazy.. i critiqued a couple maps for him, now he is my master at the craft.. time sure does slip away

I had one from '98 or so, but I lost it through some odd password mixup where it would send me my password but even when I copy + pasted or directly typed it it didn't work. So from then I stopped using ICQ, I've had an account here and there since, but it doesn't really intrigue me much anymore.

I have a number that's like 37######, got in early '99 back when I joined a mod as a prefabber/mapper. For some reason we decided that our only competition was an unreleased mod called counterstrike, and then beta1 came out...

I used ICQ once, to communicate with the rest of some mod that I had joined. Wasn't too useful though anyway.

Mine was 2649935, although I haven't used it in a long time.

Orph, I think we met through Snark Pit, didn't we? I think the first map you helped me with was my third, and my first two were both reviewed here.

scratches chin

dunno, i was sure we met before.. but it doesn't really matter i suppose.

i helped you on prolly only 2 maps, after that you were pretty much my better at it

if you were good about your text file credits you could always check and see if/when i helped you, assuming you were like me and dated the page.

still, time sure has slipped past hasn't it

[edit] lets assume map #3 was the first.. you released it 7/18/01 , and i joined snarkpit on 8/26/01..

without loading the maps i cannot truthfully say, but i would recognize the first.. it had those funny lifts that showed thru at the top

I think our reg dates are from whenever Lep switched over to his fancy PHP stuff for the first time, the site and forums were around before that.

That's my third map, it's the only one I remember having lifts. You were credited in the texts for my third and fourth maps.

And yes, time really has gone fast. I wonder how many of our current members remember a time when this site actually posted reviews.

I remember absolutely loving the orange lighting and the angled wall at the top of that room. I was really inspired by some of Gustavo's work at the time, although I can see now that it doesn't show.

I'm 51853029, so I don't win directly... but I do have two people on my contact list with 6-digit numbers, so that means I win by proxy, right? :heee:

I remember this site doing reviews! That makes me an old timer. I've never been an old timer before... it feels nice - even though I haven't done or acheived anything that would get me the kind of respect typically given to an 'old timer'. hah.

Apart from Lep im the biggest old timer of them all  Though I never bothered signing up for the forums or anything, but back then I was called kamakazee

I remember the 1st site, an account on freeserve or something that was about the weapons and monsters in Half-life, and a tiny bit on editing. Gameditors or something...

myrk, i think jeff was attempting to say, that just being around doesn't make you an oldtimer.

IMO, an oldtimer, is a designation you usually reserve for "pillar" or "base" of the community.

the membership numerical listing, does NOT reflect that ideal IMO.. there is more to being an oldtimer than your join-up date.

Orph, since you started a thread about ICQ, perhaps you would consider actually using it once in a while? I have had you on my list for well over a year, and only seen you online maybe twice...

somewhere in the depths of this thread, i explained all this already..but

i would reconsider using it for clan purposes, if the pitcrew clan ever takes hold that is.

i fully intend having some sort of a group when HL2 arrives, if for no other reason, than to show those playerminded I-dots that mappers can not only make the maps, but beat the s**t out of them, while fragging them

i would hate to be part of a group, that there only claim to fame is "Duh, I play real good"
