...Watch this.

I couldn't help but laugh at most of this trailer. It looks even worse than the first one.

I already saw it. Indeed, it sucks ... but due to the first movie, I didn't expect anything else.

Resident Evil was almost certainly the best game movie there has ever been - its really not a bad film. I'm not saying it was anything special, but it looks good and entertains.

I'm looking forward to this one, the trailer makes it look, like the first one, mindless entertainment. Plus it has a hottie dressed up like Jill...purrrrr  Pity they seemed to have changed Carlos into the squad leader (he was meant to be the rookie) and gotten somebody who looks nothing like him to play the part.

I think people have overly high expectations of films.

Or perhaps you have overly low standards.

I like mindless entertainment, there's nothing wrong with switching your brain off and watching stuff blow up. It's just that it only works if done well. Erazer is a good example of mindless entertainment -- Resident Evil was quite the opposite. Heroes you didn't care about, boring repetitive "shoot the zombies for six minutes with a gun that sounds like a pea shooter" action, god-awful soundtrack, grey, bland , boring environments, a sad and lame excuse for a twist ending and the single most annoying 8 year old british girl in all of history.

I don't usually take every opportunity I get to bash something, but Resident Evil is a rare exception. H8!!!!1

Erazer sucked  Res Evil had cool environments if you ask me, I was
thoroughly impressed by the visual style they had going in most
locations. The new one also looked quite impressive in terms of sets,
though admittedly nothing like the locations seen in the games (that
was NOT the Racoon City I'm accustomed to!).

I found the ending to be pretty cool - while the city being overrun was
not unexpected (hey it happened in the games, they are obviously trying
to follow the Res Evil timeline slightly) I felt it was handled quite
nicely. Would you rather it was all happy and everyone survived?

I just wish they didn't have something that screamed "potential sequel omg?!?'" in your face. It leaves things so open-ended it's just unnatural. The movie had suffered enough up to that point, but they could have at least put an actual conclusion to it. Instead, we get this useless and unnecessary cliffhanger ending.

I think that ending could have been fine if it had been a one
off movie, makes the events shown just seem like part of a bigger
scenario, which RE fans can relate with. Different strokes for
different folks - I enjoyed it and have never met anyone who
hasn't, which includes quite a few Res Evil fans.

This movie seriouisly looks like liquid s**t to me though. Which is
okay, I guess. It was never meant to be good in the first place.

Reno, I concur!

I know people who were like, "this trailer makes it look terrible", but the things shown in this trailer is exactly what I expected. It'll be fun to watch, especially if you're a fan of the game series.

Its cool that they're actually incorporating the S.T.A.R.S. team in this one.

A_S, Unbreakable wasn't TOTALLY bad, it was actually pretty good. Probably the only M. Night Shamalangadingdong movie I'd pay money for.

I liked Unbreakable but not to any great extent. Its not the sort of
film I'd watch more than once, as its somewhat reliant on its twist.

Wow, this has got to be one of the first times Crono has agreed with me

The problem I find with this is that they've incorporated too much from the game into the film. For example, the Nemesis in the game looks bad-ass. But in a live-action situation, it looks ridiculous. Plus, the characters seem to have pretty much identical clothes from the game (Jill Valentine in particular). It reminds me the people who dress up like video game characters in Japan; they just look wierd and ungrounded in real-life.

The only way this is going to work is if the movie isn't going to take itself too seriously.

But Jill's costume absolutely rocks - changing it for anything else would be blasphemy

I guess this shows how we cannot be pleased - the normal complaint
toward game to film conversions is the lack of similarity between the
two (FF:TSW, Tomb Raider, also RE to a degree), and this time around
people complain there is too much similarity.

No ... man ... Howard the Duck is awful ... At least Freddy Got Fingered had funny parts.

Mario Brothers .... was .... crap. I'll admit that much. But it was fun the first time I saw it (8 years old). But no matter what Dennis Hopper does ... he's still awesome.

Reno, we've agreed on the RE point for as long as I can remember.
Its one of those things that, I might pay for the DVD if I found it for less then $5 (US of course).

As for Unbreakable, I like the character development of the film and the flow of the movie. I don't really give a monkey s**t about the plot twist (that you see coming) at the end.
However, I wish he kept some of the deleted scenes in, since they're really good.

RE basically does the game story well in my opinion, I mean...you are working with a game where the main company is called the Umbrella Corp. While it isn't one of my top movies of all time or anything it isn't one that I did not like. While I think some of the details of the second movie are a bit tackier than I had hoped...(I was thinking the movie was just Nemesis and not the way overused word Apocalypse.) And while I'd like the movie to have a more in-depth story there really isn't a whole lot in the games to work with, it's a pretty cut/dry story with not a whole lot to expand upon without upsetting the fans (maybe if you got the game writers to do the screenplay it'd be justified...maybe.) Personally I think something like Max Payne, Metal Gear Solid, Parasite Eve, Silent Hill and so forth would make great games with a lot of potential for a good in-depth story/action driven movie.

It was going to be called Nemesis, but then the last Star Trek movie came out. They figured they're too similar (I believe trailers for Apocalypse were running when ST came out too).

By the way, that isn't uncommon.

I always thought Metal Gear would make an amazing movie, it actually has much more story then action (which is good).
I also always thought Mel Gibson would be, at the very least, a decent choice as Solid Snake (Think Payback). Or you could always go with the actors Hideo chose when he made Metal Gear 2.

I'm not about to watch either movie, but I was wondering, is Barry in them? Does he constantly show up after the main character manages to survive a horrible situation and then mysteriously disappear whenever the action picks up again? That was the most entertaining part of the original Resident Evil game...what will Barry do next?

Derail time! If you really want to just waste time, then you should try and see how many texture errors you can spot in Boot_Camp. There's got to be at least 30 of em.

Silent Hill 2 also fudges the boundaries of reality and scares you, but that's not the point. It just happens to have a more character-driven story, which in my opinion would help to create a more involving film. Silent Hill's characters were paper-thin, and the plot was just rubbish. It would only work as a scare-fest at best. Because Silent Hill 2 focused on the characters, and left all of the satan worshipping rubbish from the first one in the background, it was the better storyline, and definately more suited to a film adapation.

Besides, Silent Hill 2 > Silent Hill.

I like the movie aspect in games, I go for the combo or else I get bored. Such is the case in RE...I hardly play more than an hour and I'm pretty darn bored. With Silent Hill the only reason I stop is because it's f**ked with my mind too much for one day.

28 Days Later + Dawn of the Dead + Tomb Raider (bad acting and all)...

Specifically, the scene shown in the suburbs strongly reminds me of a
similar scene in the Dawn of the Dead trailer, and the little zombie
girl also borrows from DOTD.

Also, the idea of an epidemic or whatever reminds me of 28 Days Later,
and also the scene showing the city (even thugh there in an explosion)
reminds me of shots like that in 28DL + urban setting.

You have to remember that Resident Evil 2 and 3 were released a few years before 28 Days later was even thought up.
