Anyone else played this game yet? I bought it today and can't put it down. Normally i'm not a big fan of racing games as i'm not brilliant at keeping a straight line - but in Burnout 3 it practically encourages you to hit things?! How cool is that! Brill graphics with some spinky slo-mo effects too. I wasn't expecting it to look as good as it does either (the only reviews i've seen are of the Xbox version).

Oh, and the soundtrack rocks too - none of the nasty bass-heavy techno crap you'd usually associate with racing!

edit: Just unlocked my first muscle car

The second one is also good. First one sucks.

Yeah, I remember in the second one there's a mode called, "demolision" or something. Where you have to cause a certain amount of damage by cause 1 crash. The first mission was to run out into an intersection and slam into a bus or something like that and all these other cars would flip out and smash into stuff ... I think the highest I got was like 9 million.

The third isn't as big an improvement over the second as I was hoping
for, but I guess its hard to improve upon something so bloody
excellent. My flatmates and I have been firing through the crash events
pretty quickly but I've still a whole lot of racing to do, and of
course online on Live will extend the life even more. The sense of
speed has been increased quite significantly over the second and the
courses are quite a bit trickier - the crash junctions in particular
have been made quite a lot more interesting with the addition of ramps
and pickups, though those have perhaps taken away from the pick up and
play feel of its predecessor.

As you say, the soundtrack is great too, but I think your association
of the genre with techno or other such crap is a bit outdated, as
recent efforts seem to be favouring rock. Burnout 2 didn't though - it
had some pretty terrible developer made music to drive to, so I
appreciate EA's licensed tunes.

I think the mode was called "Crash", Crono, me and my friends played it
religiously... gobsmacked at like $700million dollars of damage or
something equally ridiculous

Haven't had the chance to play the new one yet, but if its anywhere
close to, or, as fun as Burnout 2.. sign me up  It has that "lets
trash everything" appeal of Destruction Derby/Twisted Metal kinda thing
going on

I got quite the opposite opinion. The second is simply driving at insane rates of speeds and jumping around unrealistly, and listening to crappy head banger music. The first actually moves slow enough that you can enjoy the sceneray!!

Personally, the first one is the king. Realistic, yet not shabby, asortment of cars, great shiny car effect (which is strangely missing from the second , and from what I've played of the 3rd demo :leper: ) and for having crashes where nothing falls off your car, there the best thing I've seen.

And the music is just... perfect.

All I know is that the second one was pretty badass. It's a shame I don't have an Xbox.

Slow and steady wins the race, old lady.

Aren't head bangers normally seen as metal heads? If I'm right in
thinking this, the second game does NOT have head banging music. I've
not played the first game, but I've heard it has less cars and courses,
and less traffic, which I would have thought would remove from the
game. The crashes in the third are miles better than those in the
second, and if nothing falls off your car in the first surely it looks
a bit, well, empty, during the crashes?

Bio, what sort of racing game was that? I might be able to suggest
other games similar...but I guess if its 89 its probably one of those
car strafing games like Outrun / Lotus Turbo Challenge

Totally agreed on the addictiveness of this game. My friend bought it a few days ago and we can't stop playing it. So for the past five days or so 4-5 of us have been packed in a tiny dorm room playing this game. It's great.

The sense of speed is quite impressive too - after playing games like GT3 where it feels like you're never topping 70mph, Burnout 3 is quite refreshing. It also seems to go faster than F-Zero GX - which is rather odd, considering your supposed to be zipping along at 2000mph in that!

The thing I think that makes it really stand out is the fact that it's just so damn fast, that you need great twitch reflexes to do decent. It's like the adrenaline and speed of Q3A, only condensed and in Racing format.

The thing is, you feel like ( burnout 2 - 3 ) you're doing 200 mph, on a straight road. Driving at 200 mph on the old fashioned Euro courses of Burnout 1 is a lot more intense

Vroom vroom me like making big explosions.

Now that I got that off my back I'd like to add that any game where you can crash a car into some innocent person and cause millions of dollars in sick sick damage then its got my gold star.

I think the newer SNES version from '94 was better. That game was awesome. You could make your car fly up in the air, and the guy would be like... "WHOAAAA!" in a funny voice

You do need a not-Gamecube though. I really really want to play
this game - I bought the second on a recommendation from
www.nintendorks.com and could not stop playing it for days
afterwards. SO FUN.

Also, many of you have great taste in racing games - Stunts, Lotus
Turbo Challenge, Outrun (my favorite!), F-Zero GX... Top Gear 3000?

Me and my mate used to play that game to death.
