Hey guys,

Well, first of all the Server will be Non-Steam powered ^_^ steam playable though.

Alright here's a list of Maps that will definitely be in the Server's mapcycle:

gasworks, tpm_village, lost_village2, malice, doublecross, rattlerV2. rebellion, scary_2snr, small, stalkx, bootcampx, ag_crossfire, 13thFlaw

Were not sure which of these maps will join the mapcycle:

tear, sands, rigor, rebirth, rats, plateau, obendom, no_patience, megalith2, merlin, tension_qs, thdm1, seneca, totem, scary_1, tombraider, teyemanon, kotc, fling, mist, chess, cbble, cliffd, cliffs, brave, turkeyburgers, zeroceromon

If there are any maps that you think must be on the server just write it here in this forum, but please serious offers no "killbox!!!"-posts plz.

I will post the IP here later when the server is up

Never thought Rebellion would get put up rather than any of my other
maps, but hey I guess the theme here seems to be smaller maps, or those
that still play well with low player loads (eg. bootcampx, stalkx). I'd
be inclined to suggest Tear, as its a beautiful map and I've played it
1v1 with a mate and had a great time. Tombraider was a map I only
looked around and that was a long time back, but I do seem to remember
it being very impressive.

Whatever you choose I'll definately be popping in now and again, good
to see a custom map server up, especially since its running
lost_village2

thanks Reno ^_^ Ive always loved your maps ^.^ well you can also suggest maps

which are not on this list, please, show me all you got  but only the great maps.

I think Im not gonna add these maps to the map cycle (from the list)

tear, sands, no_patience, megalith2, merlin, tension_qs, tombraider, mist, chess

I liked tear acutally but its such a sad theme and the inside looks too much the same. although its a pretty good map I think I dont add it.

hm well I know rats2 of course but I dont think this is the right kind of map. rats(1) is I dunno oldschool as well as turkeyburgers thats the only reason Im thinking of such a map. I hate the whole rest of rats and spiders and ants maps  and tombraider and plateau yeah I think plateau maybe but tombraider is simply good looking noob map ^_^ Ive played Boom and it had a crazy feature of changing the whole map to a ruin. that was pretty cool but I wouldnt add it to my server. I will check out boomv2 maybe its better

Eden, by Peter Manson, would be a brilliant idea, if you're expecting large crowds.

Any note on when the server will be up?

yes I thought about Eden, I like it, too. The problem is that if you add such gigantic maps its hard to get the server full you know? the first guy joining never sees an enemy and leaves again. I prefer middle size maps for the start so I can see how many people constantly join the server and if its too full I can add maps like Eden.

The server goes up when the connection is ready. There has been some delay a part of the connection module was missing so we cant start yet. I will definitely give you the exact date as soon as we know anything about it.

Does anyone know good sites for admin mods? Im not gonna make a server with 100s of sounds and features that change HL, I hate that too, no I just want a vote option and some small pieces of information for the user.

Well, I've of these two really great maps, called Blizzardv2 and Paralaxion  .

Sorry, but I had to put them down. Blizzard/v2 however did seem to be a fairly popular map. It got significant play time on a number of different HLDM servers, including Hot Death Diner.

I know BlizzardV2 I dont like it at all. I remember being pissed everytime it was on HDD. This Paralaxion map looks pretty cool, I just downloaded it. Im a bit concerned about the gameplay Imma check it out now. possible that I add it.

edit: no s**t, paralaxion is a great map, I love the theme. I add it.

I did Rumple - a mate of mine from a HLDM league forum was rebuilding
the map "Frenzy", and after running out of ideas to make it look a bit
better I made a few changes. The map is definately his though, rather
than mine.

Hey, hey! Server is going up very soon!! What mod-changes do you suggest? Personally I think its good to add some bots, but Im not sure how many, maybe 3 or 2? They will have the player models "Deuce" & "Obi09". Maybe I will add them to the automatic downloads so you got the models when you join. The bots are supposed to leave when real players join the game. Also I wanna add a vote function with a "extend map?" option. Im not gonna change anything about the movement or items cause I think that sucks. Ah and I hate these annoying messages and sounds all the time ^^ I wont add any of those. So have I forgotten some important mod?

well, gasworks is just oldschool and a well known respected pro custom map. ag_crossfire is better for pro games because there are no bees or glueons and stuff. and bootcampx <-- !! not the original bootcamp. I think Imma add some standard maps too but Im not sure which ones. both bootcamp and bootcampx are good 1on1 maps. I will install the server today (small delay xD ) and when Im done I will upload a mappack. :kitty:

i avoided servers running gasworks almost as much as i did for subtransit.. i hated those two maps, both for different reasons though, one was a campers delight, and the other had that stupid train.. both catered to broadband fragging..

stalkyard, frenzy, and snarkpit were my choices, all catered to everyones bandwidth. tis the reason no_patience frags so well, i copied the general ideal of gameplay/style

as ugly as my map is, it plays better than 90% of the user made maps ever IMO

i know, no_patience would make it into any poll of the top 10% of all HLDM maps made :heee:

Ah, we have a little problem. You know this bug when you want to start a server with Half-Life, but you have a router? then the original internet ip is replaced by a router LAN ip. I got the same problem at home so I cant start a server. I didnt know that he's using a router yet. Does anybody know how to avoid this IP changing crap?

its been my experience that in order to allow a dedicated server behind a routers firewall, you have to open a port, which basicly leaves that ip open to intrusion, thus defeating the purpose of it.....i have a linksys, and i have opened the port before, only to find that every d*ckhead hack that wanted to could get in.....ill find the link of info, and post it in a bit......yer call if you choose to use it.....

You only need to open those ports which are actually needed by HL. Yes, all d***h**d hacks that want to can "access" that port, but no one can do anything with that access. Basically, you're only in trouble if HLDS has some unpatched vulnerabilities that can be exploited, but HLDS (win32) is quite secure.

I wouldn't worry too much about security in this case (Otherwise, be very, very paranoid :skull: ). Just monitor your traffic occasionally and make sure only HL packets are moving around.

*edit: In HL's case, only incoming traffic only on TCP/IP port 27015 need be allowed. So you can leave everything else closed.

thanks for the answers so far, but this has nothing to do with my problem. this is not about ports its about replacing the router ip by a valid inet ip. I heard something about DynDNS.org Im currently checking the site. If anyone can help please reply to this thread.

Did you see my earlier link? It has exactly what you need.

For more info, what router (name, model) does your LAN use? Also look up your router manual in the sections about NAT (Network Address Translation) and/or Port Mapping.

ok I completely followed the instructions and everything seems to have worked the only problem I got is that I need the up-to-date Half-Lif dedicated server file. I searched the whole internet but didnt even find ONE server that isnt offline. I need that to try if it worked though. I wonder if you can use the same method using a non-dedicated server. does anyone one?

Non-Steam HLDS  I think you need to download the latest Non-Steam version (http://gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk/blueyondergames/halflife/server/win32/hlserver4111.exe)

*Edit: Kampy, I just remembered that WON pulled down it's HL servers a while back. If you want to run a WON server, you'll need the steamless project patch (http://www.steamlessproject.nl/) The actual files you need are somewhere at the bottom of their files section. Don't know how legal all this is. It's probably fine, since they've pulled down WON, you're technically NOT bypassing it. or something.

Im not talking about a WON server. Im using Non-Steam. thats a program. Non-Steam is an alternative platform to steam and with a special update you can play on steam servers as well ^^ without a key or steam n stuff.
