I am looking for a red glow sprite to use in NS. I want something that you would use for lights and I did not find any in the sprites folder. If some knows where I can find a download of a sprite like that it would help. Also How do I get the effect of steam spraying out of a vent. I found several steam sprites but all were small and circular. I am guessing it might take several of these sprites stacked to get a steam effect but if there is another way of doing it let me know. Thanks.

I never knew you could change a sprites color. That's certainly new to me.

look bud, i dunno about NS, it makes no sense that it would be different that normal HL..

get sprite viewer, pick the one you want, and edit it to suit..

edit it as in, tall and skinny, short and fat, fast moving, slow moving..

steam is steam.. why would NS do it differently?

get pakscape, extract the sprites, get sprite viewer..

[edit] the sprite you need, may not be called "steam" [edit]

I have sprite viewer and I checked all the sprites. Also I believe you can use HL sprites in any other mod (I think). Is this true.

make a test map, try.

yes, you can change the sprite-colour info:

go to fx color

pick your color

there you go, the sprite is the right color.

this should be in any fgd, otherwise it would be a very old one.

let a env_shooter loop, make sure it shoot sprites, i think this works
because you can use models as sprites so its probably possible.

there is a trick to let it loop with a multimaneger, but i dont know that exactly.

i cheat, i place random triggerAAA brushes around my map.. when someone walks through it, random steam bursts occur.. is much easier to set up and NO MM's

Spartan, a quick search of the the site (map editing>resources) turned up this, would you believe.

you can set their scale in the properties, if you want to change the size of them.

fish, i didn't make mine yellow, because he asked to many questions within one thread..

spartan, you should not ask but one per thread.

Thanks for clarifying that. It would have been easy for me to be left with the assumption that you were unsure of the answer, by posting something like;

I did make mine yellow, because I was confident that my post answered the question in the thread title.

I've also edited in what is needed to answer the other part of Spartans question, if that makes any difference to you.

Orph are you talking about me? Anyways I already knew you scaled down the texture but I wasn't sure if you could change its color. You'll get to see my sprite skills hopefully this week when I post up my NS map.

Orph, NS has added a particle system which uses sprites to create much more complex effects that HL just couldn't really do on its own. Some aspects of that are different.

But yes, you can set sprite color, but there's also a few that have a reddish tint to them (redflare, for example). Your call what works best; the red you specify may be too saturated if you're not careful, but sometimes the pre-colored sprites don't give the right tone either.

i do have a question, or will repeat his.. can he use the HL sprites too?

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>No, why should I. Spartan asked primarily for a red sprite. He couldn't find one. He can find one, or it's name and how to use it on the page of this site that i linked to. He also wanted a sprite that would look like steam, but had only been able to find round ones. Again, the link I provided would provide the required sprite, negating the need for any other editing questions about stacking round sprites. Two birds with one stone.

Anything else?

fishy is answering the topic question, and rightfully so he marked his answer yellow.

I don't see the problem, apart from with Spartan 34 - one question per thread, in future please boss

Have another look at the linked page, Hugh. If you read the header paragraph you'll see that it's not someone elses collection of sprites. Its a visual list of some of the most commonly used sprites that are already on your harddrive. Even if you've not unpacked them to your sprites folder, you can still use them.

sighs

have it your way, as i said, i didn't want to bring it to anyones attention.. my answer was correct it seems, my qualms were asking more than one.. just because the questions happen to be insignificant questions, doesn't negate the rules. the rule is one i helped push through, its going to be one i see broken more often than not :/

i would prefer to deter the rewarding of asking multiple questions within a thread.. fishy's yellow answer, should be disqualified under that breach..

perhaps, spartan could rephrase the question, so fishy's answer can be used?? but upon reflection, his answer, points him to a searched item.. i give up, it looks like andrew was the only person who tried to answer it as an NS question..

I can understand if both questions are totally different but both my questions were about sprites. Wouldn't it be a bit silly to start two threads that were about very similar things?

Its for the point of the question/answer database Spartan - while yes
it does sorta make sense to group related problems, its just not ideal
for the system.

I still don't understand why it would be more efficient to do two threads about sprites. I'm sorry for my ingorance but this is what I think. Oh and Gwil, change your avatar back to the original. I liked it better.

the database is not infallible spartan, if one searches for color alterations, it may miss it cause you also want to alter the sprites size and shape..

the rule was incorporated to attempt to reduce the error chances of the search engine lep uses..

we are not attempting to bully you into submission, just post different threads.

the reason i don't make mine yellow, is the search or person searching, may get confused, marking any yellow answer correct.. would defeat the purpose of seperating them.
