What happened to the snarkpit pitcrew map? Did it just up and dissappear?

Something of the sort. I believe its Yak_fighter that has it right now. Although Orph has a copy too.

Yak Fighter made a news post not TOO long ago saying he was working on it again after a long break, so we may well see it again soon enough. Don't think I can be bothered having another pass at it, my area is complete enough I think, although should anyone want to mod it at all then I'd be happy for them to.

No, it hasn't up and disappeared. I'm still working on it.

This is when I got it:

It no longer has a bunch of pointless dead ends or crappy connectivity in the middle. I am not going to allow this map to be a cool concept but a piece of unplayable crap in multiplayer. It'll get done before HL2, I promise.

We were having trouble compiling it before, and now you add that much complexity?!? Good luck.

a compilation of lots of snarkpit regulars' areas. Each made an area or so & then theyve all been put together.

It's not like I can't simplify it. Plus it looks more complicated than it is, mainly because my mapping style tends toward more crap on the ceilings instead of the walls.

Everything my hand touched the first time around was deleted, including that big red and blue room that was overly detailed. I am more than willing to remove details throughout the map (mainly my area) if need be.

if you do, you will need to begin another, this one is full, i am not being mean, its the biggest multi-mapper construct i have ever seen, short of a single-player map pack...

lemme get the last beta uploaded and you new members can gaze on real talent at work (no, sadly not my part)

Why don't we start our own as Orph suggests Gorb? there alot of newer "regulars" around such as you and myself.

I won't have time for any mapping until christmass, but I'd be up for it.

you sure lean back alot

hey, send me that pic of you so i can put it in my collection.

and guys, our map went smooth for a long time, then snaged, be prepared for issues, we got lucky, all of us were more/less proffesional enuff to accept real-life causes them..

most mapping groups, wont

if you start a map, set goals at the onstart, agree to them, then proceed, or else you will fail, lose friendships or worse, leave SP over it.

its very, very hard to mesh mapping styles, but, it can be done

goodluck

I think we need a limitation on size and have a certain layout determined ahead of time to see how much space each person should be provided with.

That definatly makes sense. I was thinking of outlining a general theme and a very basic structural outline. then each person could do a smallish area and adapt the theme to their own purposes. you could probably even break the theme significantly as long as you provide some sort of visual explanation and a smooth transition.

I heartily encourage people to have a go at making another joint SnarkPit map. I will not be taking part (methinks I am too much the solitary SteppenWolf), but good luck

However, I suggest it would be salutary to look at the current pitcrew map first (in the most recent compiled version).

Orph, do you still have this BSP up on your webspace?

I've done some mapping with other people in the past so I know what its like. I agree with Orph.

so...

Here's somthing all incompassing:

A mountain top castle converted into a secret multi dimensional research facility. that would allow for: outdoor, castle, laborotory semi industrial... even zen with a few telaporters. that sort of thing would mean there would be somthing for all styles.

I can do outdoor areas. Anything with rocks actually. I'd prefer a night theme though. I'm no good making bright settings. I like 'em dark.

I personaly like late evening, as you can have some nice sharply defined shadows with redish light, and still leave room for some creative artifical lights.

maybe we should start a new thread for this
