Sorry about that downtime. Looking for a new website host, and am thinking about GoDaddy. Anyone got any cheap suggestions for a site that needs about 1gb HD/50+gb bandwidth?

if it comes down to cash lep, i am quite sure we can help. don't settle for to low a host, just because they are the cheaper choice.
i can only speak for myself but, i personally would contribute, with no gratuities expected in return. being here.... tis plenty of return on the investment IMO.
all you would need do is, figure out how to get my paltry contribution into your pocket, from arkansas.
in case it slips through the cracks, i am very glad to be here and my thanx for running such a site.

I share Orph's sentiments exactly. Don't go for cheap and unreliable
hosting, as I'm sure the community would not mind contributing
financially to something that so enriches our mapping lives. I have no
problems ponying up some doe.
Oh man its good to have this place back, lets not ever fight again.

Good news is, coming off Oktagone, even crap hosting is pretty reliable.

Oh how I missed this place  I found myself so lost on the internet
without my home to return to. Ah well, whats past is past, I'll get
over it  Like the others, I'd be willing to donate some towards
hosting, though being a student I couldn't make the most sizeable of
contributions.
I still think it would be nice to have a pit bank of sorts that people
can donate to and fund extra things for the site - game servers, better
hosting, that sorta thing.
(ps. while I tried to submit this post the pit went down again! argh!!!)

Right, I've gone for Globat, and will consider setting up a donations system (I'd prefer it if I could specify a 'target' amount and not accept any more after that, but ah well!) for servers and the like...

Welcome back snarkpit (hai? hai=='yes' in Nihongo)
I've been considering purchasing a dedicated server service from a
provider like IPowerWeb ($69 a month for the minimum system needed to
run hl2dm), setting up a hl2 dedicated server on it, and then renting
out either a hl2-dm or cs:source server. The specs for the $69 a
month system wouldn't allow for more than a single server to run at a
time, howerver, so it would be a big money loser, even with my using it
to also host my domain  .
They have a virtual server account system for only $19.95 a month, but
I'm not sure if these VS's give the root level access required to
set-up a dedicated server. If they did, I could rent out a hl2-dm
server at $10 a month, and the remaining $9.95 would be offset by using
the server to host my domain as well.

hey ho - nice to be back. perhaps il start mapping for hl2 now :S
Also, seeing as Nihongo doesn't use the same characters as us to write words, then 'hi', 'hai', 'hiy' etc. are all the same thing really

Which is what I just said, in my post.

Incorrect, honto. The "official" romanji for yes is h-a-i, which coinsides with the hiragana characters

To greet one-another, they would say "konnichiwa", "ohayo", or another greeting depending on the time of day and the relationship of the greeters

Lunarpages.com gets good reviews, and is very affordable for there basic package (I'm currently with Lunar), but they only offer two package options, and the price of there high-end one is too costly for the space/bandwidth provided.
ipower.com has more package options than lunarpages, and still gets pretty good reviews. They are also a large-scale commercial host, so you don't have to worry about them suddenly disappearing one day. They have have scaled plans starting at $7.95 a month for a year commitment. They also offer a virtual dedicated server package for $19.95, which might be suitable even for running dm servers...maybe. I'm looking into this myself, this week.
Some people also like hostrocket.com
PS: Sorry for all the edits in the previous post...I pasted from JWPce to MS Word, then to here...which messed up the bbcode somehow. Had to edit a few times to get rid of the 'bugs'

A typical Paypal Donate button would suffice. Any excess goes to you for your hundreds of thousands of hours staring at your 15inch flatscreen coding this website.
