Is it possible to use
this
keyboard
with a Windows PC?

It says: 'The Apple Keyboard is the perfect complement to your USB-equipped Mac' and 'Important: Requires Mac OS X, v10.2 or higher.'

So do you know if it is possible to connect it on an USB port and use it with Windows?

Thanks in advance, ding.

I'm fairly sure the ascii codes are the same ... so the normal keys should work ...

http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/macgems/2005/01/doublecommand/index.php

That article says you can use a Windows keyboard on a Mac, so I imagine it'll work the other way around. Why don't you just try it?

Why would you want to use a poxy Macintosh keyboard, of all things, when you can have one of these?

why would you want that blighted macintosh product to even be in the same room as a perfectly good REAL computer? Barring footrests and practice targets for elephant guns, I see no reason to even HAVE a mac.

Why can't those fancy keyboards at least get the backslash key in the right spot?

YEAH!!! I've noticed that! It seems that any keyboard that has something desireable e.g. Light-up keys or wirelessness or anything else, will INVARIABLY have some sort of completely IDIOTIC key arrangement OR one of thoe big rounded bottoms for "ergonomicability" F that, gimme a NORMAL keyboard!

Besides them having better built and developed hardware. The architecture alone is substancially better then X86.

There's your reason. Development wise, they're very nice. However, you must realize I'm not talking about the software. OSX is alright, nothing bad, but it's still logically incorrect. It's difficult to reach the root user/directory because that's too advanced, yet, you used to have to allocate the amount of ram for each program ...

But the hardware is excellent. Make no mistake about that.

And more expensive, too. If you've got money to throw around you can still get better than Mac...

What, what is everyone on about with keys being "in the wrong place"? They are on that, except for the gap between the function ones and the insert/delete block... Anyway don't forget that the entire layout of a keyboard really needs changing- the key layout was designed to slow down people's typing on typewriters to stop the type elements from getting stuck together!

While the second part is true, the first part is false. The QWERTY
layout was designed to reduce the frequency of jams while typists could
continue to type at their own speeds, or even increase their speeds.

Er, yes it would help speed typists up by being arranged in that way and thus preventing keys from locking together, but still the point remains- if the keys are locking so much, then you will want to rearrange them so that often used key combos are fairly far apart from each other, or to slow the typist down somewhat.

But whatever, the point is that surely it's not the optimal key layout for a keyboard!

<opinion> I got my keyboard for a healthy 9$ , It has the spring
i need for gaming and also isnt plagued by buttons i almost never use.
Its the like STANDARD original style keyboard with the windows key , {
power key } , { Wake } , and {Sleep } buttons added

anything within the {}'s i personally removed with a screwdriver. my
computer turned off one too many times by that blasted power button.

Its made by GE and is called the "smart keyboard" i find it beautifully perfect. </opinion>

I'm considering a new keyboard at the moment, though my current one
does a decent enough job. My main reason for wanting to change is that
I'd like some media keys - volume control in particular. My new
headphones are brilliant but they don't have a volume control on them
anywhere, meaning I have to either set volumes in programs or change it
through my sound card settings (EAX control panel thingy). Not much of
a problem when on the desktop I guess, but when gaming it is annoying
to have to alt-tab out and adjust things. I'm thinking
about the one you posted Lep, but does the volume control do the master
volume of the computer, or just the wave/mp3/media player/whatever
volume? Also, is it customisable to change the media buttons to run
winamp controls as opposed to the standard media player ones? I can
easily enough find out myself, but if you know...

I've got a keyboard with fancy media keys, but none of them work - only the regular keys work. It also used to have those useless Windows keys, but I removed them.

My keyboard is in the middle of renovations, I spilt freezie juice on it and am in the process of taking it apart and cleaning everyhting. It's a windows one that came with a wireless optical mouse and has everything you could dream of. I can reply to emails via my keyboard, even though I never use it. W/e I just needed something to say.

Reno I definately sympathize with your plight. I hate having
headphones without a volume slider on the cord. I know I could
benefit by having a keyboard with a volume control, but the only ones
I've seen have significantly more buttons that I don't want, and take
up more space than a normal keyboard. My friend has one though,
and I'm pretty sure that the volume adjusts the master out, not any
application specific volume.

I personally would recommend the general Microsoft Multimedia keyboard,
has the best comfort and functionality of any of the ones I've come
across. You can also get it in a nifty bundle with the wheelmouse
optical for a reasonable cost (<$30 CDN total). I hate all the ones
that have a 1/2 sized backspace...that really bothers me. The only
gripe I have with the MS keyboard is the function lock, the default
should be the other way around. But I've heard it's the same deal with
even Logitechs too. They really need to give these to people who
actually use keyboards before they market them. :\
