Does it even exist yet? I heard there was a Windows coming to include support for the new breed of 64bit chips (like mine) but it isn't out yet.. let alone even announced.

You can only get the beta for a trial period of about 300 days, it should be on MS website somewhere.

So it isn't actually out to purchase or fully supported yet?
I didn't say it wasn't coming, I was more saying it hadn't been announced as officially out. Either way nuts to a 300 day beta, i'll wait for the full pack to come out.
Most important question is how much will they charge for it, and will they include options for a cheap upgrade for legal owners of XP? I'd hope so, but i'm not entirely unrealistic when it comes to interpreting Microsofts business strategy
edit: Oooh I see, very good news indeed
I shall be trading mine in then  Pays to be legal, for once!

You guys do realize that if you're running an AMD 64/FX chip(s) this probably would run the same or barely faster then XP-32, right?
I'm specifically talking about the AMD chips, because they just support 64-bit processing. They've actually been developed as a transitional processor to optimize 32-bit applications and run 64-bit applications. So, in all actuality, using a 32-bit version may run faster. (If you wonder what the hell I'm talking about: go to AMDs site and read some of their documentation.)

Oh will you shut up raining on everyones parade for once Crono
You sound like a stuck bloody record dissing everyones hardware - if Doom 3, Half Life 2 and Quake 4 play well, we can use our apps without slowdown and our PC is fast and reliable, does it really matter?
No, it doesn't.

I dont know why gamers think intels cpus are better. AMD owns intel and
will for a while I would know my dad is a network administrator
at INTEL and he perfers AMD most of the guys there he says own AMD and
say they are at intel for the money. Intels new cpus over heat so the
cpu has to throttle it self back so the new intel chips dont run at
full power all the time.

I didn't "dis" anyone's hardware, gwil.
The operating system its self probably isn't very reliable as well. Why would you change what you have for something new when what you have would run faster (potentially)?
f**k it.

It's diss, but you've missed my point.
It doesn't pay to be a cynical whinger all the time, you know  Some people are quite happy to live in ignorant bliss rather than be told their new PC/chip etc isn't really that great after all.
You know?

I'm making a larger point Crono, not just this thread.
Helping people isn't in my nature, I don't have the patience. Nor is tit for tat back and forth identikit arguing. The dictionary.com retort would have been funny if I'd claimed a perfectly valid word didn't exist
I think perhaps if you are trying to help and educate people about their systems if you came across as little less negative and minus the attitude when people have already chosen. Text doesn't mix well with rhetorical questions, as it usually skews the meaning of what you're trying to say, for instance.
As proved by this thread and both of our posts.

Quiet fools! More talk on this 64bit windows... One question I'm sure Crono can answer... Xbox is 128bit... So was PS2. Why are PC's so behind the times?

personally, i don't mind crono reminding me of my shortfalls all the time. he is correct most of the time, and even when he is not, i keep him ignorant of that point simply because it is one thing i know that he does not
and, i have the taboo longhorn, 64bit windows opsys.. i am afraid to install it, but i do have it

How many of us actually have more than 4 GB of RAM on a desktop ? .01 %?
"Right now linux has the best 64-bit OS"
Wrong - http://www.freebsd.org
And actually crono - 64 bit optimized applications are a lot faster
than 32 bit optimized applications - maybe 50 % faster or so.

When 32-bit CPU's came out they said the same about 4 GB of RAM, and machines are starting to push the limit now.

Actually in theory, 64 bit systems can support up to 16777216 Terabytes. Now that is hideously large.
If computer development wasn't slowing down (if it is at all), the time
when 64 bit computing will become obsolete from a memory perspective
will take 16 times longer than the time it took 32 bits to become
obsolete. Weve been on them about 20 years or so? You do
the math. Though thats not the only reason to migrate to larger
instruction sets.

I have Win Pro x64 on my Amd 64 and even the 32bit programs runs much faster. HL2 and CS:S load much faster.
The downside is that many devices still dont have drivers...
Still waiting to get my hands on a Far Cry 64bit edition...
