I've been working on this for a bit for the past couple of months, this
is my second attemt at the hall after I scraped it and rebuilt it.
[note: I know that there is a glow missing from the fire].

I'm stuck on the entrance hall, i'm not particualary [sp?] impressed by the pillars so they will get redone.

Help appreciated.

Here's a good thought, texture the ceiling in a skybrush that is different from the one outside. If possible try to fade to a brick texture at the edges. like in the movie. also, do the candles move up and down slightly? (at different times than one another.)

any way to hang banners fromt he ceiling?

make the staircases turn from one place to another. To keep from having to make too much hallway stuff just make both doors at the top go to the same basic place.

Candles not moving atm, am planning to do so [I know it's a bad thing
to say, planning is good doing is better]. I like the thought of the
banners though

I haven't really got round to doing the stair case yet.

Which doors at the top do you mean?

by "doors at the top" i meant that the staircases in the movie always rotate around the bottom of the staircase. And they only go to two positions. So by making the door at position one and the door at position 2 end up going to the same general place, you wouldn't have to worry about making 2 completely different places for players to go. I suggest only making one staircase that you actually walk on and just make those above and below it for effects.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the entrance hall bit, i'm not
100% sure on if you will be able to go up the stairs, it will make it
too big, but I will keep that in mind. I'll be making the lower/dungeon
type area from the stairs though.

either way, It'll be cool. Maybe you could just make a small part of the map off to the side that lets you go into the giant staircase place, but you can't go anywhere from the small platform you're walking on. like make one of your hallways just divert out into a balcony in the stairroom and then go back to wherever it was going. No one's gonna sk questions, this is hogwarts were talking about. Then to keep it from taxing your budget too much just make 3 staircases that move in it and then do the ceiling and floor up with a "blocklight" to give it that "keeps on going" feel.

You got the Harry potter games powered by Quake 3 engine? Use those and basically copy them completely!

Yes they were unreal engine games. There is a hogwarts map for quake 3 that has practically everything from the books though.

just a quick thing that poped out at me, the tree in the court yard
needs some earth around it. It looks like its sitting on the man
made ground, not planted in it.

I played the first HP game on the PS and also the second and yea, they sucked.

Anyway I've done some modifications to the front of the building. I got some inspiration from this pic:

 cheers ballblue.

@ Zevensoft, I thought so with the layout and the rounded towers, I
just google imaged hogwarts and looked at the first few pages. I'm
gonna be using the leaves decal for some added effect around the edge
of the tree and get working on the last two areas.

Seeming as I can't update in my profile I'll update what I've been doing here.

I've been fixing the cubemaps into the right place and optimizing for less lag [there seemed to be lots of dynamic lights].

Ok , Possibly make a subdivision map with a loamy soil texture come
throught the bricks as to make it like its growing into the bricks ,

apply the leaves onto the loamy soil and a bit on the stones

As long as it didn't deviate from the actual hogwarts (I've never seen the Harry Potter movie) maybe put some barrels or something in there? It needs a little cover -- if a gun fight broke out in there, I'd sure hate to be in that tunnel

Ok coming from my gf, the person who knows all about Harry Potter (I don't really see what she does), but apparantly you have the laout but not the look. The rooms don't look much like the actual places, and your missing the back courtyard. But that depends- is this a recreation of the castle from Harry Potter 1+2 or 3? The castle "magically" changed in 3.

The back court yard is the bit with the tree i'm working on atm, but right now i'm re-doing the hall. I'm using the layout from no.3 with some of the looks, but I can't get it all as it's too big.

Good looking map. Being that it's a remake of an unreal tournament map, not sure how well it'll fit into cs. Also, there already is a map with a simmilar theme, so it could be considered duplication to an extent.

On its own though, it looks very nice. Great sky, great layout, good use of models.

Hehe, cheers, I haven't played the Unreal version though (HL(/2) and it's mods are the only FPS that I really play.

Download might be available in a couple of weeks when the layout is
done and I've added in some needed hint brushes, and I've finished the
new version of the hall. But atm I've got some media coursework to get
on with.

It was filmed here in Oxford... and oops I was wrong, seems the walls below the windows are higher up in real life, but the film heavily modified these and extended down the windows to what I said.

Thats not the same room sloth, hes merely saying its the same architectural style. I think your hall (before you do detail) you should work on scale. Your hall is completely wrong in my opinion. Also might wanna work on some kinda effect for the roof- maybe using particles?
