IMO HL2 would make a horrible movie. Gordon Freeman talking would ruin it all.

Virus takes place on a ship (or submarine or whatever) and never has blood and guts lyring around. It IS Event Horizon that he's thinking about ... Titan AE, is probably the other movie you're thinking of, which is a piece of s**t.
As far as I've seen, the Doom movie will be a lot like the game (Even in it's loosly based form). If I'm not mistaken, Doom 3 is the first doom where the villians are actually from hell. According to the (comic)books anyway. It'll be mindless action with the rock flipping out and killing people. What else is there to Doom? Nothing. So, it'll be interesting at the least. I don't understand why everyone will be pissed that they're changing things in a Doom movie ... there isn't much to go from. I mean, even books and comic books on the topic are "run through areas, find a new gun, continue killing". Don't know why no one understands that ...
Then again, ANYTHING can make a great movie, it's all about presentation of the ideas and plot (good dialog doesn't hurt either).

Hah, they've got The Rock as Sarge in the Doom film, awesome  Wonder why someone's playing a pinky, and what Goat/Destroyer are?

The Rock, as far as I can gleam from this, is not sarge:
"Dwayne Johnson aka "The Rock" had more to say about the upcoming Doom film to Empire Online:
"I'm playing the commanding officer who, without ruining it
for everyone, turns bad, which is great. I'm so excited about that
movie, I'll tell you why. Number one, it's my first rated-R movie and
it's a very unapologetic rated-R movie. Not only that, but the monsters
are real, they're not CGI. They're made by Stan Winston who did
Jurassic Park and Predator and all that. So the monster's got weight
and when they're in a scene they're like Aliens! I get to transform and
become, I'm going to tell you this right now, the BMFOTP. Know what
that means? It means the baddest motherf***er on the planet.""
As for a HL2 movie... I heard that Valve has been approached with a
bunch of screenplays and turned them all down (because they weren't
good enough). Marc Laidlaw should just write the screenplay

I remember reading an interview a long time ago where the Rock said he
wasn't going to be playing the main character. I think they
wanted a relatively unknown actor for that role. The Rock says he
has a surprising role... and from that interview above we learn he's an
antagonist.

<DIV class=quote>
<DIV class=quotetitle>? quoting Crono</DIV>
<DIV class=quotetext>But then again, most hollywood studios just want an initial money flow from a name. Die Hard 4 is an example. It's not even about McClaine or anything, so why is it called die hard? Money.</DIV></DIV>
Well since you asked.. I would guess its because its a established name, and they think they can sucker people to see it based on the name alone. And in doing so they make more money.
I was reading a few sites today, and the movie is in fact about McClane and his daughter going on vacation and getting mixed into the middle of a terrorist plot.
heh I knew you were not asking me.. but I could not resist. lol

In case this have not been said on the topic about the Doom movie: it will suck.
The Doom movie will not be set on Mars, Phobos or Deimos.
The Doom movie will have nothing to do with hell, the monsters are there because of a virus.
The Doom movie humans are not the space marines from the Doom games.
The only thing they have in common is the name, "Doom".

A movie about Half-Life 2 wiht gordon would be horrible, but if it
would be based on the hl2 enviroment en follows a charter that
spoke(scientist, combine, rebel etc.) then i think it wouldnt turn out
that badly.

As ever, I'm sure we would let them off if they made an HL1 movie with Charlie Sheen in it and talking/swearing a lot.

Who should play Alyx? Jennifer Garner? Halle Barry?
Jessica Alba? Thandie Newton? Or gasp Angelina Jolie?
I know who should play Eli...Morgan Freeman.
What about Gordon? Johnny Depp? It's gotta be someone who is kinda nerdy looking yet cool at the same time.

You guys, seriously, you're worse then casting directors.
Have you ever thought that it'd be a better idea to find "unknowns" to play the parts instead of casting A-List actors all around and trying to force them into the roles?
Also, Suicide Kings is pretty good (that's what that picture is from) and yes, Walken would be great.
Az, dude, Charlie Sheen is a terrible actor, no way around that s**tty acting of his. Sure, he looks the part, but come on. You can make almost anyone look like the character you want. That isn't the problem.

HEY!, wait a moment.. Both my choices are fine actors, AND relatively low on the "Most wanted" lists..
My choices would not harm any movie version made. :/

Any goon with a beard could really play Gordon Freeman- and I'll nominate Ricky Gervais for it.
And, thanks to Addicted to Morphine's link, I've just realised that Kleiner is evil and all will be revealed in the next game...

Hahah, they'd have to loosen up the the waistline on the HEV suit for
Ricky Gervais. He could do the soundtrack too... with such hits
like... excalibur and free love freeway.

If they did make a half life 2 movie then Hollywood would f*** it up by
adding a love scene between Gordon and Alyx, not that there isn't
anything wrong with that, but it will just mess up he whole "feel" of
Half Life in general.

Interesting thought: imagine how a 'layman' would feel watching a movie of whose background he knows nothing where a silent, middle-aged man with glasses runs around in an orange metal suit in a giant metal tower grabbing things from far off using a massive, extremely unweildy-looking machine to throw at giant, semi-metal, semi-organic spiders.
