Stupid question, but I've been seeing some CS:S maps with the fy prefix. What exactly does that indicate?

Maps where there are weapons lying on the ground, and the only objective is to kill the other team. Usually fy maps are small and poorly made, although there are a few exceptions. The origional fy map was fy_iceworld. Nobody knows for sure who made it, but Pit and RD have claimed they made it (this is not true). fy could stand for many things, but the most common belif is "found you", followed by "f**k you".

I've also seen it referred to as "fun yard", "fantasy" or "fight yard".
But it's probably just the intials of the original mapper, or something
like that.

It's probably "fun yard". Or maybe it means nothing and this thread is pointless.

It means either "fun yard," "f**k you," or is meant to be nonsense.

I've always taken it as a "fook you" to all mappers who labor over their levels, planning, designing, retouching, scrapping, playtesting because by some unknown diabolical force, the fy map is gonna get more play.

That's a sad truth. You spent 3 months polishing a map, and a fy_
map made in 2 hours gets more attention on public servers than your map.

Isn't that because there are more fy maps than custom cs and de...

If it takes less time to make a fy map then surely there are hundreds
and I myself when playing with friends like to play on stupid maps with
gimmicks because they are quite fun!

I do prefer high detailed maps for ideas but they take longer to load
and I believe after playing a fy map that the people on it like them
more because:

1.They take less time to load

2.Sometimes more fun especially with traps and lots of glass...

3.Some people prefer gameplay and not detail so they don't mind either
but some even said that they have no choice because there is a lack of
custom cs and de maps...

/\ This is what a vast majority said and it is actually quite scary :o

Well, what you said is true habboi. Which shows what complete idiots a lot of CS players are.

The thing I enjoy most about CS is the teamwork, trying to complete the objectives. I have loads more fun playing on Dust with friends (playing seriously), than I do playing with friends mucking around in Iceworld.

To tell you the truth, it is unfair, as Andrei said. You can spend ages building one particular map, and perfecting it to your best ability. But in the end, the majority of people who play custom maps don't want serious maps, they want maps to muck around in.

Sad fact, but it's the truth.

I played CS for exactly the same reasons as you Trapt. I never
really got angry at the community, which seems the thing to do here and
at most other forums. I always thought it was a great game and
can't understand why people non-stop bitch and complain about it.

Anyways, then Plan of Attack came out. I've been playing it
non-stop. There aren't any dumbasses on it, because that game
requires uber-teamwork. PoA is, IMO, the best HL2 game out there,
including HL2DM.

I thought PoA was pretty good when it came out. I found it got boring quickly.

I did, and still do, think it had tremendous potential though.

Agreed. It's by no means perfect, but still the most entertaining thing on the HL2 engine at the moment.

What's your ingame name?

Actually its the initials of the original creator or something like that, not Fight yard or anything. I know the original creator of fy_iceworld... He does make normal maps too...

It means fun_yard ffs. End of the matter.

And Myrk- , read your post slowly and you'll see that your argument
lacks logic (something like fy are the initials of the author because
he also makes normal maps).

If you actually read it properly with a brain, you'll notice that I didn't say what you typed. I said that I know the creator of the most famous fy map there is, and the second point I made was a defence of that author in saying that he does create normal maps aswell (hes not just a newb).

Well, it's not supposed to be read straight through like that. ASsassination_Oilrig and DEfusion_Train look pretty stupid that way too... If you're looking for the correct grammatical expression, it'd probably be Iceworld (Fun Yard).

Because it's quite blocky, maybe ?

I'm working on an fy_ - style map too, because de_ and cs_ maps are supposed to be quite big, and I'm not that of a good mapper.

I had an idea for a P90 map once... P90 Prism I was going to call it. And then I came to my senses and never started it
