Screenshots will be very limited, so when they arrive dont expect any to reveal whole parts of the level.

Unrealism, hard to define.

My entry for this year is going to end up unrealistic (cough hopefully). The setting features needles of rock and floating isle's of stone. Hope from isle to needle, from needle to isle in order to score them frags and get your hands on some better hardware. Very open gameplay, death is just one step away, meaning a long fall towards infinity.

Good luck to all those who enter the competition this year.

Basiscly like any thread, showing off...

Advantages are that people comment on my map and I improve it so that it's meeting their expectencies...

Also, this thread will hopefully help people in getting inspiration for their entry.

Why the dark tone?

I don't think there was a dark tone Paladin, more a case of where's the map? You've told us what you plan to do - but haven't provided any media for us to comment on (apart from a very vague concept sketch).

Get some screenshots posted so we can comment  You'd have been roasted alive for doing this on the CS forums you know! No screens, no beans etc.

Dietz reminds me of Teddy Roosevelt.. "Speak softly and carry a big stick"

Dietz rarely comments, but his words hit with a wallop.

I'd consider it an honor that he commented in your thread at all Paladin. :/

Fair enough then...

Any way, the project is coming along nicely, will get some screenshots though, so don't start hitting me with 'soft words and big sticks'.

Another isue I have is: Since all of the action will be in mid-air the 'ground' (the bottom of the skybox) shouldn't be visible. I tried to achieve this by adding fog, but the fog isn't dense enough to completely block the view to the ground. Any suggestions?

Even better would be if I could get a effect like you're thinking that your in some clouds...no, please don't say sprites 'cause that'll end up with to much rendering time...

Well I found the best way to get around that was to make the skybox pure black, so the level is hanging in a void. Alla my map for last years competition, Paralaxion.

Obviously thats not going to work for you as you want there to be sky and everything. Might I suggest the skybox used in the final chapter of HL2, when you are right near the top of the Citadel. That one worked really well to give the illusion of being really high up. If it doesn't suit the theme of your map, perhaps try and make one that fits by using a similar technique to that one. You'd get some serious kudos for having a custom sky  .

And alas, the requested screenshot...well, one at least.

I feel this screenshot captures my idea quite well.

Mind that the 3d skybox will get a bit more debris in it, and the rocks won't look so greyish

Doesn't look much like your concept. RECRAFT I SAY! And because its a very simple map, I'd suggest having the ability to go inside the islands and shoot out of the side of them on gangways.

Perhaps it's good to make the islands look like it was once a normal
field, that got ripped up and parts of it are now floating around. What
I mean to say is, make the islands look like they could fit together.
