It doesn't really matter. If the map is really good then it'll be widely picked up, in which case overshadowing other maps with that name. Otherwise, it will only be on the select sites you put it on.

Name it whatever you want. This is what prefixes are for, by the way. (dm_mapname, for example)
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Here's an idea: put your initials as part of the map name. Like this DM_JDJr_Mapname (where JD is John Doe Jr. ).

You can't possibly go wrong with this.

Heres a better suggestion.. This thread belongs in "General'

Picking a name is easy if you chose one so obscure that there is almost no possibility of a duplicate existing..

Almost all my maps names were chosen thus..

Just remember that you have to rename the .vmf, not the .bsp, other
wise you will have cubemap problems. The reason for this is when you
compile your map, it gives it an internal name that was the name of the
.vmf such as dm_mymap.vmf, if you remaned the dm_mymap.bsp that you
compiled from dm_mymap.vmf then you will have cubemap problems galore.
So decide the name before compiling, or your in for a world of hurt.

Now THIS is an editing comment.. So the thread now belongs where it is..

This info is news to me anyways..

Presonaly I think any other "things" in a finished map name (dm_dg_killboxzor_b12_final for instance) look super tacky and detract from the map and a first look basis.
