UD, i see your point about the role Bloom had to play in KOH. Yes he started out as a mere young blacksmith and i agree he played that part decently, but the whole point of the movie IMO was that he transformed into this charismatic "king" (because he had it in him through his father) that his ppl would follow into battle like, indeed, in gladiator or even in alexander or king arthur.

At the end of the movie, where he speeched to his ppl to fight, i just wasnt convinced, i thought it was laughable.

Roles like in LOTR or in Troy are good for him, not the roles where he has to be charismatic at one point.
These words are my diaries screaming out loud

He makes agood elf because he's feminine and wimpy. He made me
angry in Troy and Pirates of the Caribean. He dilevers every
single line exactly the same. It's the same emotionless emotion
with the same sound... GOD it's annoying.

Just watched Madagascar. (I think thats how its spelled)

Anyway, it just replaced The Incredibles as my favorite cartoon. Its so full of subliminal humor I was in pain the whole time from laughing.

Watch it people and know true humor.

I can't find Chasing Amy. Orlando Bloom was in KOH? Didn't even notice. Good thing I didn't because every time I do notice him a little voice in the back of my head says sissy elf must die. Also, has anyone seen The Corpse Bride? If so, is it 3D made to look like clay or is it clay with computer effects applied or just ordinary clay? Couldn't tell because only saw for a second in a preview.

Well, if Tim Buton did it the same way as he did Nightmare Before
Christmas, then he has a wall full of little clay interchangeable heads
with different expressions that he uses stop motion to switch and
animate.

Ahah, I was right. A quick search of www.imdb.com trivia revealed this:

? quoting www.IMDB.com:

[*] The puppets were made from stainless steel armatures covered with silicone skin.

[*] The first stop-motion feature to be edited using Apple's Final Cut Pro.
[*] As an indication of the painstaking nature of stop-motion
animation, it took the animators 28 separate shots to make the bride
blink.

[*] The puppets used neither of the industry standards of replaceable heads (like those used on The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)) or replaceable mouths (like those used by Aardman Studios in Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
(2005)) but instead used precision crafted clockwork heads, adjusted by
hidden keys. This allowed for unprecedented subtlety, but was
apparently even more painstaking than the already notoriously arduous
animation. One animator even reported having recurring nightmares of
adjusting his own facial expression in this fashion.

[*] Small moving elements, such as candle flames, were photographed in MiniDV.

I know they used A LOT of CG in that movie too. Probably for making things smooth, shadows, and junk. Some of those shots would be impossible otherwise.

Just got back from Potter 4. First and foremost, I am glad I went. I would suggest that if you have not read the book yet, watch the movie first. They omitted so many key elements and rewrote so many scenes that it only resembles the story in the book. Its not a bad movie but in parts where I know this or that was coming, it never did, and other places I was wondering "where the heck did that come from?"

Anyway, the book was a 10/10, the movie maybe a 7/10 in comparison.

I would say that 70-80% of the book is missing. Many, many key elements are gone and some pertain to part #5. I wonder how they will fill them in in the next movie.

Just watched "Fantastic four"

It stayed amazingly true to the comics and for a group of relatively unknown actors, they did a very good job.

Watched a Japanese movie called "Casshern" this evening, and while I
enjoyed it for the most part, it really went on and on at points. Often
scenes would linger for far too long, and the entire ending sequence
which felt like it went on forever didn't really impress me. The first
hour or so is certainly the best part of the movie, and while the
action scenes are pretty cool in places, they aren't really anything
worth shouting about. Check if out if you like CG intensive movies
though, as there is plenty of it on show here.

KING KONG

I love you Peter Jackson. <3

I don't even know what to say. See it. You wont notice that it's 3 hours and 7 minutes.

One thing I've noticed in some movies (King Kong, Hulk, etc) is the animated characters in the movie look so much better than the real actors. I'm thinking it's a combination of things, like the film stock, or the fact that Kong was always digital. Not sure, but it's just an odd feeling to watch a film and go, "That person looks fake", when the fake character looks more real than anything else on the screen.

Needless to say, that'll happen a few times when you watch this.

Also, Andy Serkis does a fantastic job ... as usual. How many other actors out there can really put digital performances on their resume? Because, he's got two as it is.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Isn't this movie, like Skycaptain and the World of Tomorrow, mostly
digital backgrounds? Couldn't that be why the "real" people look
odd?

Edit: I thought I seen something on TV along the lines of that.
It was about how they digitally edited all the skyline shots of New
York City to make sure it was as historically accurate as
possible. They mentioned Skycaptain, but I took it a little too
far.

Truly, I don't know what to say. It is really out there IMO. It seems to be made by some oriental company because all of the credits were in either Chinese or Japanese.

It's an anime directed by Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira). It's unique only because of the way the film was made: it's entirely CG. They spent nine years creating the machines and software to make the movie. Other than that, Reno, it's Otomo anime. You know what to expect from that

Watched remake of "The Bad News Bears"

Much Thornton goodness here guys. Still a grade "B" movie but so stinking funny I had to pause it to catch my breath.

WARNING: If you are one of those weird people who dislike Potter because it portrays a bunch of unruly children do not watch this movie.

You really should go see it... it's a hilarious movie, especially if
you like to watch Thornton drink heavily, curse, and generally not give
a f**k about life.

Additionally I saw King Kong tonight.

+ I thought it was a visual feast, and it really really picks up after the first hour is over.

+ CG Kong = Amazing. Jaw-dropping. You could see emotions flitting across his face...
 • The acting was ho-hum, and the dialogue was laughable. Some cheesy bits as well.
Overall, worth seeing in theaters just for the visual experience.
I wouldn't go out and buy this on DVD, or necessarily watch it again...
but it definitely captured the beauty and splendor of Kong.

P.S. I now have a tiny crush on Naomi Watts, just so you know.

"Munich" is the type of movie that will change your day, no matter how
you're feeling before you entered the theater. Surely, it puts
you in a somber and pensive mood, and perhaps makes you think about
questions that you never thought you would be thinking of
otherwise. It makes you question what you thought you believed
in, and what you thought you knew. It touches on the topic of
love, revenge, redemption, morality, and loyalty.

Now I have a newfound interest in finding out more about the politics in the Middle East. It's a movie not to be missed.

Germans and war? What?

Here's the synopsis for you:

"the director closed out the year with a powerful and thoughtful
drama about the human costs of international terrorism. The 1972
Olympics in Munich, Germany, were supposed to be a peaceful gathering
of outstanding athletes from around the world, but on September 5, the
games took a sinister turn when eight masked Palestinian terrorists
invaded the Olympic village, killing two Israeli athletes and abducting
nine others. The kidnappers demanded safe passage out of Germany in
addition to the release of Arab prisoners in Israeli and German
prisons, but when they arrived at the Munich airport they were met by
German police and military forces, and in the melee that followed, all
nine hostages were killed. In the wake of the killings, the Israeli
government gave Mossad, the nation's intelligence agency, a special
assignment -- to track down and eliminate the Palestinians responsible
for the death of the Israeli athletes. A young and idealistic Mossad
agent (Eric Bana)
is assigned to the four-man unit created to wipe out the Olympic
terrorists, but while he believes in serving his country, as their
bloody work goes on he begins to buckle under the weight of his work
and wonders if he can morally justify his nation's acts of revenge. Munich also stars Geoffrey Rush, Daniel Craig, Mathieu Kassovitz, and Ciar?n Hinds. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide"

But the Germans aren't portrayed as bad guys in the movie. In
fact, they only played a miniscule role in the plot. Thinking
back, I don't think I saw a single German face in the movie.

Interestingly, Spielberg resisted portraying anyone in a negative
light. The film even showed the perspective of the Palestinian
terrorists. Some argued that the director is sympathizing with
the Arabs, but I wouldn't go that far for someone who made "Schindler's
List". It's a film everyone needs to watch.

The Island ... filled with nobodies? Are you serious? Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Buscemi, and Michael Clarke Duncan are A-List actors, there buddy. Sadly, the movie is a crock of s**t. Anyway. (I would have said Sean Bean too, but the only good stuff he's ever been in is lotr and goldeneye)

I checked out Syriana today. Damn good movie. It's pretty hard to explain what it's about, but basically, it's oil in the middle-east and exactly how everything is interconnected with that. From the companies that benefit to the people who live there and even the power that is present. Clooney and Damon are probably the most known actors in the movie (however, Chris Cooper, Amanda Peet, Christopher Plummer and Alexander Siddig are present oh yeah, William Hurt too)

The movie is set up into individual "stories" that seem to intertwine. Not directly, per-say, but inevitably. It just shows the actions of these people and how they effect everyone. Very intelligent movie, also. It's peculiar how everything is played out, now that I think back on it, but it is done very well. Almost as if it's intentionally confusing you, but doing so to make a point. In any case, I'd suggest seeing it. However, it's nowhere near a "happy" movie by any means.

Speaking of movies and Far Cry ... let's talk about Uwe Boll ... the worst director on Earth.

This asshole has made some of the worst movies ever ... which are also video game adaptations: House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark.

This is what he has lined up for the next three years:

Bloodrayne
Far Cry
Postal
Fear Effect

Bloodrayne, which is obviously already done, comes out next month. The others should come out NEVER. I could understand a Far Cry movie if it was made like Rambo or something, but this guy couldn't direct a piece of s**t down the toilet.

Postal ... why? Just why? There is no basis for a plot ... at all. I'm actually pissed about Fear Effect, because that, unlike these other games, has a pretty good story ... which will be ultimately urinated on by this moron.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Uwe Boll ... the worst director on Earth.
The only reason his movies are made is because of a certain German tax loophole that uses bad movies to reward his investors with a write-off. This loophole is fixed come January, so when his next several movies bomb, he's done for. Let us pray he is, anyway, since he's battling for the rights of the Half-life movie.

I trust valve too much to believe they'd let him touch it with his lake of poison directing skills ... or lack there of. I know Valve isn't stupid (as a whole), and I'm pretty sure they're not going to just sell rights and leave it be, they'll probably be involved in most of the pre-production process and have some final says. (I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people got exec/producer credit.)

Perhaps my world is indeed small but the cast of "The Island" is a cast of mostly nobodies.

One movie does not make a legend be.

As I said, I kept waiting for someone to say "but I was the chosen one" a parody of obi wan of course.

He was/is so unknown to me that had I not recognized his name, his face would have just been a total nobody. As it was, his name only clicked but his face remain.... nobody.

I recognized few others and all were nobodies too.

Sorry if thats offensive but, there you are.

Anyway. (I would have said Sean Bean too, but the only good stuff he's ever been in is lotr and goldeneye)
And Ronin, which is a cool movie...though he did play a piece of s**t in that film

Oh and I agree that that cast is not nobodies...

Ewan McGregor: Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge, Rogue Trader, Star Wars films, etc...

Scarlett Johnansson: The Horse Whisperer, Lost in Translation, The Girl with the Pearl Earring, etc...

Sean Bean: LOTR trilogy, Troy, Ronin, Equilibrium, Sharpe films, everything else EVER

Anyone seen the teaser for Silent Hill? That movie looks awesome, and the director and writer both have true passion for the games and are fairly respectable in their jobs, as well the soundtrack is completely done by Akira Yamaoka (who did all the games) so it's not going to be some Hollywood pop-rock music zombie explosion fest. It was filmed in Ontario, and I think it's coming out April-ish.

Yeah I saw that teaser and it looked pretty cool. Resident Evil:
Apocalypse has left me with a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth when it
comes to video game to movie adaptations even though I liked the first
one, so I hope this repairs that damage. It's not directly based on one
of the games is it? I've only played the first and fourth, so wasn't
too sure. I do seem to recall that the cop in the first game was called Cybil though, so I guess it ties in in some regards.

Paul W Anderson is the second worse game->movie maker ... guess what he has his hands on now: Castlevania. Produce, Written, and Directing. grabs a gun WHY?!?!

Christophe Gans is a respectable film maker. The only thing I didn't like that he did was the re-edit on Brotherhood of the Wolf. When I saw it in theatrical release here it was fantastic. It was mysterious. You had immense amounts of trouble unwinding the plot before it happened ... so naturally, I bought the DVD ... when it came out 2 years later. And he re-edited it! Now, the focus of the movie is the relationship between two characters ... which wasn't the focus before. I'd like to get a home copy of the cut I saw in theaters. I'm getting tired of this Director's Cut only on DVD crap. They did it with Blade Runner too. I liked the voice over dammit. I hear the Canadian version is the theatrical cut for BotW, I might just ship it over.

If you can find out for certain I'd be happy to look for a copy for you and ship it down.

Thanks for the offer. I appreciate it, however, it seems it'd be cheaper on ebay. There's a slew of Canadian copies floating around there and the shipping is reasonable (making the total price for the 3 Disc edition $20).

That and I don't have any money right now.
