As the title suggests.

You can keep a track on changes/updated made by viewing the changelog.

you butthole  where did my thread run off to

1st suggestion: imagine i have a PM i want sent, to 10 snarkpit members, all same message, all at once..

that would be nice... have a box much like the delete, where you check which members to send to..

anyways, if its possible it would be cool.

Pretty good idea, though a continuation of this idea might be better. There could be a private forum, in which a thread starter can enter the names of users who are allowed to view and post in that thread. Anyone can start a thread in that forum but can only read threads that they are authorised for. This would mean that for group projects like have happened here on a couple of occasions, things could be organised much better (there is only so much a group wants to discuss in a public forum afterall).

Dunno if thats asking a bit much though, probably much to much hassle to setup for the limited degree of use it would recieve.

GA had a private forum of sorts.. it left a bad taste in my mouth, cause it flaunts the idea of, "you aren't permitted"

PM's on the other hand leave you ignorant of any exchanges of messages..

i would vote NO to a private forum..

imagine a private forum title "Duncan Blair's map sucks ass" and you not allowed in..

/ 2 cents

i meant no offense duncan, truly.

i just abhor any system that bars members full access to express themselves.

i have been on the s**tty end of many a sticks around here, but no one has ever expressly forbade my right to be stupid.

private forums, are a form of discrimination, elitism, and censorship.

Since the other thread magically disappeared, I've no idea if you read my suggestion of how a user review system could possible work. So, did you? If so what are your thoughts?

if i were skilled enuff, i would attempt a system that:

1) incorporates a pre-defined quantity of screenshots, optimized for 56k users..

2) uses an pre-approved template, with the appropriate blanks to be filled out for quality structure.

3) when submitted, was either directed to the recycle bin with a letter of denial accorded the submitter as to why or..

4) was forwarded to a secondary place to be decided if it warrants just user news status, or being made a permanent review with a full snarkpit endorsement.

5) if possible, we could implement a user rating system to add comments on:
a) the map itself, for those not gifted enuff to write a complete one of their own.
b) rate the reviewer, on his/her skills in comparison to other reviews.

if i had the skills, thats what i would do.

suggestion #2

when you quote someone, the text automatically changes to something other than white.. to clearly seperate quote from reply.

light grey or something ... or, even better, don't change the text color, but the text size.

What do you mean by an approved structure? If you mean something like...

[title]

[screenshot 1] [screenshot 2] [screenshot 3]

[review]

[score]

...sort of general outline, then yes I agree whole heartadly, but I don't think it should be the structure of the review itself, as that doesn't leave the writer much creative license.

i mean simply this master duncan, approved by mr. leperus.

since he is the one whom would be required to implement this, the task would be his alone to decide what exactly an approved template would look like.

something very much like you graphed above sir

Yeah I think that would definately be needed - something similar if not identical to the existing reviews would be great. I just wouldnt like it to be done so that the section of the template for the review was split up something like...

[brushwork]

[lighting]

[technical]

[playability]

...and so on. It wouldn't allow for a freeform writing style, and as games journalism is an area I'm becoming increasingly drawn towards, I'd like as much freedom as possible to create my own style.

this is the template i prefer, albeit with a few less screenshots.

lep has not approved, nor disapproved it.

something similar, or better would be nice as well.

Rate each seperate thing out of 10 then divide by 5. It's silly only allowing 0-2 for something like architecture.

consider, you have 0, .5, 1, 1.5, and 2 ... that is 5 possible scores for each categories.. with a total end result of a map being rates 0/10 to 10/10

I think A_S's option sounds more sensible - just rate each section out of 10, then take the average...or skip out the marking for each part, and just give the overall map a grade.

i kinda like this too, but consider though.. a player minded mapper builds a fast furious piece of s**t to look at map.. it would rate high on one extreme, but low on the other.. with Dave's suggestion, the curve it produces would reduce the impact of each extreme.. i don't favor a system, that makes a poor map seem better through the law of averages

There wouldn't be a 'structure', just a suggested guideline, along the reviews of yore. And let you upload 3 screenshots, and have the same gubbins as before (perhaps some of them being optional), along with a final 'verdict' and score. The marking each section bit should go in the guidelines rather than being something you HAVE to do too, I think.

personal request:

as ideas are used/vetoed, some sort of a notice should be posted here, or elsewhere fairly prominent.

this might make it less apt to have repeated requests.

A permanent "Competitions" section of the site, rather than each act as an article.

possible bug

it took me 4 tries to post, the posts it claimed were double were in two entirely different threads.

i am unsure what the issue was, because it was not within seconds, but prolly closer to a minute between the 1st and second attempt.. needless to say, it was most definitely over a minute by the 4th attempt.

any ideas lep????

suggestion #3:

PM's - can the PM's be put on say.. a 5 or 10 day limit for "read" PM's ?

i mean seriously, in my PM area, the "PM's Sent" list, of PM's i have sent to others is so long the scrollbar is tiny, there must be a few hundred PM's listed.

if the messages auto deleted after a few days of reading this sure would help..

just a thought.

otherwise "DELETE YOUR PM'S FELLAS"

Sorted that one out. And the 'double posting' thing happens when you try to post the same text twice in a row...

<!-- ZoneLabs Popup Blocking Insertion -->Just a minor thought, but I've always prefered things costomized to the way I like it,
e.g. recently I took the time to go into properties of the desktop and change the xp view to 'classic' and changed the colour to 'rainy day' , I loved it, and i have the feeling that i spend more time on my pc because it's the way i like it.

so mabe some colour customization apart from just classic snarkpit,x-ray or invert [which IMHO I don't like {too much strain for my eyes}]

and mabe for the forums there could be a task bar up the top of each forum for the most talked about topic which has had a post in say like..the last few days.

that would be nice

I'm looking into themes, I think a fair bit of code-jiggling will be needed though and it'll take a fair bit of time to do it right.

The 'taskbar' thing- what do you mean by that exactly? How about, say, something on the forum index page listing all the recent topics/posts that have been posted since your last visit?

The 'taskbar' thing, i mean something like this

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/suicidle_tramp/taskbar.JPG

something at the top of the page when you go into a specific forum which has 'hot topics' at the top. And also you could put something on the forum index with the 'hottest topic' from each forum.<!-- ZoneLabs Popup Blocking Insertion -->

Love the new feature for the PM system.. but when you say "more messages stored" are they really stored or deleted. And if they are store, is there a way we can look back at them?

Apostrophes in names shouldn't matter any more, and it shouldn't kick you back to the control panel without giving you some kind of reason why... try it again for a 'simpler' map and edit it. Might be some crazy stuff going down if you're trying to upload files?

A_S, what did you search for and where? Seems to work fine for me!

It was originally "Flatshaded (working title)", but when that didn't work I figured it might not like the brackets and tried just "Flatshaded", which had the same effect  I tried again just now but clicking on "add a new map" resulted in a page not found, so I guess yo uare working on it or something.
