What if you have the snarkpit up in a maximised window, and two
small-ish windows on each side of the quick reply. You are focused on
one of the small windows, and move the mouse to focus on the other, but
instead the snarkpit steals the focus as you pass the quick reply box
and sits itself above bother your small windows.

IE isnt an option on my older machine tbh, it eats RAM like it's going
out of fashion. And it encourages bad coding. And it doesnt have tabbed
browsing. And, I still think its a good browser - but could be a
thousand times better... the advances in its tech and
usability/features have been few and far between in reality.
The microsoft motto again, if it aint broke (it is, knowing M$ ) dont
fix it. or upgrade it. just make it look prettier rolls eyes at length

SInce Lep has the ability to fix all the errors we keep finding (God
bless him) then it's obviously not our browsers fault. Stop being so
resistant to change Jon, damn it!

all i am saying is.. when browsing snarkpit, use what works..
sure, use whats best ... eventually.
i am sure lep will get the kinks worked out someday, but in the interim, use IE.
resources can be gained with a reboot afterward
i keep my config completely empty.. nothin is on when i boot-up.
i can recommend, you might consider upgrading to an operating system that optimizes them better if something as simple as IE borks your old pc.
gwil, you have broadband now.. contact me msn in a sec.

I'm not going to try and convince you to change browser, but you should give it a try just for the sake of it.
Can anyone else select the 'font', 'size' or 'font colour' options with
their mouse? The menu drops down but disappears when I move the mouse
down. Can easily be bypassed by using the downarrow button.

Orph, if everyone took your advice and used what works in the interim, who would be reporting the bugs for Lep to fix?
Yes, IE works. This is a good reason to use it.
Mozilla also works almost all the time. To make up for websites sometimes not being coded properly and so sometimes not displaying correctly in mozilla, there are advantages such as tabbed browsing. If you like tabbed browsing, and don't mind the odd small bug on 0.5% of pages you visit, mozilla is ideal. If you don't care about tabbed browsing (and other benifits like faster page load times), then sure, keep using IE, nobody is stopping you!
So please, when us mozilla users are reporting a bug that is the fault of the website, not the browser, don't keep coming up with the same old 'why not use IE' question? Thanks

butthole, i was teasing, and you know it
name one person here, who has reported more site bugs than yours truly?
i am funning you all, cause its always a browser issue with you few, you hardly report bugs not of the browser kind.
allow me my small joys.. i tolerate yours after all

Ah! That's the whole point though!! They are not browser issues, they are site issues that do not affect IE. If IE was made to follow the standard set out by the W3C, you would be having the exact same bugs we have.
Let's say a big oil company and a couple of big car companies got together and start using a new fuel. They don't tell anybody else how to use or make the new fuel. The new fuel isn't actually any better - the cars that use it even give lower miles per gallon around town, but it is made cheaper so that people start to use it and so that these three companies can get a bigger share of the market. A couple of years later, you drive up to a gas station in a bus to be delivered, and find that only the new fuel is available, and your bus can't take it. Is this your fault? Would you support another oil company that was trying to make fuel that worked with your bus, and the new type of vehicle?

OK, let me rephrase this since you obviously opted to ignore my point..
snarkpit has other issues.
there, thats about it
believe me, i am on your side, but i currently see no real reason to cause myself a known grief.. you can have them if you like for me

I have no problems using Firefox 0.8 on this site. If you do have problems, don't use the WYSIWYG editor, or upgrade your browser!

In the map area when you select a page number from the drop down list
it only goes to the page if you click on the number making the [go]
button redundant.

The go button is there in case people are using crap browsers which won't automatically redirect.

I assumed as much but it doesn't do anything if I highlight the page
and then press the [go] button. Maybe it's another firefox thing.

Ok, sorry if this had been brought up before too, but I haven't exactly been around much and haven't followed everything in this monster of a thread-
But now that you have that little tag that says "New posts since your last visit:" in the forums, would it be possible to add a little "jump to new posts" link for each thread? It's a bit of a stretch and not really necessary, but I think it may be a little bit convenient when you leave and come back to a thread with 2 or more new pages in it. I hate wading through posts to find where I left off.
I don't think it would be too hard to just code in an anchor tag somewhere on that line, then just put a link to the page in the thread that the new post is on and just have it point to that anchor.

is there a way to see on a user level, how many times a tut has been viewed?
tis a minor thing for sure, but one i have been curious about for some time.. it would be nice to see the tuts aligned much the same way as the member list.. from most viewed, to least.. this may not prioritize them accurately, but it would prolly bring the best to the top..

I can see how many times they've been viewed, but only implemented that a couple of months ago so it's probably not that indicative. So far, the most popular one has been the DoD mapping tut.

Ok, the jump-to new posts thingy doesn't exactly work correctly- it only takes you to the most recent page, instead of taking you to the oldest new post. I swear that will make sense if you just read it a few times
But basically, say I post something, and it turns out to be the 17th post, then I sign off. Then, say 15 more people post- that brings the post count for that topic up to 32, thus adding a new page. Clicking on the snark piccy will only jump to the 30th post, not taking into account the other 12 posts that came up since the last visit.
Ehh?

Unless Lep did some incredibly funky stuff with the back end of the website, I can't imagine that it would be too tough to do.
If it's anything like what I'm thinking, all that you would have to do is whilst checking to see how many posts are in a certain thread (which I assume is done, since there are the jump-to numbers) also check to see which number post is the oldest. Once you have that number, simply change the start part of the snark pic link from whatever post to start at to:
(15 * ((int) ($newPostNumber/15)))
or something along those lines...

Not an important issue at all, but if you post an image that doesn't need resizing to width 800, then replace the image on the remote location, you can have any image size you want. I suppose the only way to fix this would be to re-check included image sizes every 20 views say. I'm guessing it would be too much of a load on the server to check every time...
Agreed on the new stuff that keeps appearing.. I often see something I haven't before and think 'cool'

I've had an idea. It might be interesting to see how effective the editing database is. for instance you could have a statistic like this:
% effectiveness = ((#Searches-#posts)/#Searches)*100.
Assuming that every search that does not result in a post constitutes a solved problem this would give you the percentage of questions which are already in the database. It might be pointless, but it would be interesting.

what if:
the editing forum mods made for sure, that each question, that is answered correctly, has a key word in the title..
it is my opinion, that the search-able database is missing stuff for two serious reasons.
1) lazy people not searching,
or
2) the database has no certainties when looking.
seems to me, that if the forum thread title asks "i have a question" but the thread is about lights.rad file editing.. the search option may miss it.
opinion???

If people are too stupid/lazy to do a proper search for their problems, then good luck to them and their illustrious mapping career. The database isn't amazingly great search-wise, I know, but meh

Quick reply isn't working for me in IE (I'm on my parents computer while mine is out of action). If I press the show/hide button, then the reply box pops down, but the page then refreshes and the quick reply box is hidden again.
