I have been looking in various places, advertisments, papers, going round shops. But i still cannot seem to find a job! In some places you have to be 18! But still could anyone give me some pointers on a quick way to find some part time work?
[edit] I couldn't really care what it is, as long as it is not delivering leaflets.

supermarkets, retail outlets (clothes, coffee, books, cd's), supermarkets/high street names (wh smiths, woolworths, boots).
pubs/bars (glass collecting), local shops/industries, cash and carries
(look for Costco/Booker in a phonebook), cinemas, DIY stores (B&Q,
MFI, Halfords).
otherwise, check every small electrical/pc parts shop/independent games shop windows in town, things like that
be proactive, and be prepared to accept part time hours and rubbish
pay. youth workers take the sharp end of the knife when it comes to
working conditions/satisfaction.
i can personally say don't work for Morrisons unless they've increased the wages
and good luck
(these are mostly 16+ btw as well)

Just wait til August then mate, all of those theoretical positions will
be available and open to you then. Being under 16 more or less limits
you to paper rounds, food running in pubs, odd jobs and menial stuff
like that.
A sea of cash awaits you on the ol' job market soon though!

I've been having the same problem Sloth, and I just turned 20.
Unfortunately most of the available work seems to be bar work (really
not something I'd want to do) or dishwashing in restaraunts (been
there, never will be again). I've applied to both supermarkets in my
town (a spar and a safeway) and had no reply, to HMV and Game in Dundee
where I am at uni, to no avail, and also recieved an interview for a
game testing job with Rockstar but was apparently too biased toward
multiplayer games (which is entirely NOT true)
Its getting quite
depressing really, I'm already half-way through my workable summer.
Quite a lot of places are unwilling to take on staff they know are only
around for a couple of months I guess.

Well, I applied to GAME and Music Zone last week, and bothl of them are apparently looking for jobs nearer the middle of the summer. I've noticed It's hard to find a job when you're under 18.

Wow ... jobs ... I wish my area had some of those*.
At least ones that would help to actually pay for something, not just suck the life out of you.

What do you need so much money for at 15? It's not like you're paying rent, food or tuition and you don't have to worry about the upkeep of a car or apartment.
I just find it odd that you're basically a supernova of postings (5 in a three hour timespan).
What ReNo was saying about dishwashing is not that it is, as you so eloquently put it, "a s**t job," as it is something you do as a first job and once you've hit a certainly level of employability, aren't keen to fall back on. Dishwashing general pays fairly well (I started off $2/hr above minimum wage) for a first-time, no-experience, non-hazardous job, and typically the restaurant will feed ya too.

Its not what you know, its who you know. My mom got me a job working 10$ an hour easily moving stuff around all day. Moving offices, driving a van, building tables ect. So ask around. Adults rock. They can find you jobs and often have the inside look at their own workplaces. maybe THEIR boss needs an extra helping hand. As long as you are a hard worker and diligent there is no reason why you can't find work.

Yup that's absolutly true. Problem is, I don't know anybody in my field. I've got a professor who is trying to hook me up with a battery engineering job, but I haven't much hope on that front.

TB, you could always look into becoming a TA at a college ... and if you were so inclined work on your masters at the same time
Either way it'd immerse you in what you studied.
I'd suggest looking for government jobs though, because they will hire you with no work experience in the field as long as you have education in it (gotta support your own system, you know).
I'd be applying for jobs at PSU, but those f**kers are taking 8 months to process my work study, which I probably wont get now ... bastards. Not to mention, they gave me a pell grant ... THEN THEY TOOK IT AWAY!!
Oregon is the most liberal and racist place on earth ... all at the same time ... there's like ... liberal racists here, its messed up.
(I just found out about the grant thing, so forgive me for venting ... those pricks)

I'm certain your local Wal-Mart is looking for fresh new people to crush beneath their corporate yolk. You could probably walk into any of them and say you are willing to work the afternoon shift as an unloader and they'd hire you on the spot. Then you'd wish you were back home slacking off. Try to guess what job I have and how much I enjoy it...
[edit] ah, but you live in Britain. I'm warning you, never come to the US to work at Wal-Mart.

Honestly, if you can pick up 50 pounds, read english, count to 10, and understand that aqua colored cat food cans are different from blue colored cat food cans, you can succeed with flying colors as an unloader, or stocker for that matter.

When I needed a job for the summer, I went down to our little minimall areas along one of the busy streets in town and just went door to door getting applications. I filled out three or four a day for about a week, and got a single offer. And that's why I'm working at Tuesday Morning (weird discount store type place full of home decorating and cooking crap) 30 hours a week for $5.75 an hour. Yeah it sucks, but it's funding my apartment and my new stick of RAM for the PC.

It looks good on a resume for any other retail or restaurant job, as well as having a lot of good perks (that only exist in my province though, such things as allowances for cleaning, paid breaks etc.)

Hi, I am probably saying something that might have been said here as I don't have time to read them all this morning. I have been employed almost without interruption since I was 16 years old. (Lets see, thats ummm.... add to that, carry the one.... umm..)alot of years!. Looking for a job is in itself, a full time job. Since you seem to have the benefit of a family structure to fall back on, you can spend all of your free time looking, and I do mean just that. You should be canvasing and filling out applications all day during business hours.I would(back in the early days) simply walk from door to door in the market districts and enter each and every establishment, ask for the manager kindly, and ask one simple question:
I was wondering if you are accepting any applications for employment right now?
It also never hurts to wear a shirt and tie. Now I know not everybody would agree with me, but trust me, as a person in a mostly managerial capacity with regard to my employment history, The jobs usually go to the clean cut kids first. I realize that it's not right to discriminate based on appearance, but believe me when I say, it happens. People are always going to hire the safest visual bet initially, because they don't know anything about you personally. Also, don't be afraid to enter establishments simply because you feel there might not be anything you would want, or be able to do, you might be suprised. I have had a varitable conicopia of jobs since I was young. From installing awnings, to being a toy tester at Mattels(btw don't attemtp to get a job like that one you'll just have to trust me there, hehehe), to operating a forklift, a job I got at 17 years old. By sheer repetition combined with a good attitude you should find something.Hope this is helpful.
Good luck!

Good advice Juim. Well it sounds like it is anyway, I don't have that kind of experience  I was pretty lucky really, I rang up a few electronics firms (I'm doing an electronic engineering degree), and just asked them if they could offer me a place for the summer. Basically the first two places said 'ok, email in a CV', so I did that, looked around both, and I start at one on Monday.
So to reitterate part of what Juim said, don't wait for places to advertise that they want to employ someone, just ring places up (or go there). I suppose having just finished GCSEs you are not far enough along in the system to apply for jobs that relate to what you are learning, but I would say any time 6th form onwards, this is a possibility, and one that gets you relevant experience that may benifit your job prospects when you finish all your courses, as well as money.
