I was just wondering how everybody goes about playtesting their maps. Do you use bots and if so which one? I use botman's bot which seems to work pretty good usually, unfortunately it doesn't seem to work in hl-teamplay. Can anybody suggest a bot that does work for hl-teamplay?

bots can assist in the minor things like connectivity and items, but playabilty can only be certain with live people.. when was the last time a bot told you a spwn point was backward, or you had a clip joint in a hallway

Orph I see your point and obviously I would prefer humans but they aren't cheap! Besides I don't want to waste peoples' time with my crappy maps.

Force I checked podbot's site and while it does look like a nice bot it apparently isn't for anything besides cs.

i used to use a really old bot program, it needed no waypoints.. the bots were a bit stupid about water, but were deadly with a pistol

can't recal the name ATM.. sorry. maybe someone else will name it for me..

Duh, Jumbot! Easily the best HLDM bot. It does need waypoints, but they aren't hard to make in-game.

I used to use jumbot but it would give me strange problems like giving all the bots gluon guns for some odd reason. And if I remember correctly it only worked for deathmatch and not team deathmatch. I could be wrong about that tho so I guess I'll try a fresh install and see how it goes.

I think if you turn on cheats (or run the game with the -dev command
line) then the bots will use the cheats, meaning they will use impulse
101 to get all weapons.

yep that's exactly what it was. I feel kinda dumb for not realizing they had ALL the weapons and were just choosing to use gluons. Oh well, problem solved, thanks guys.

heh, i've done the same myself, thought a bot was broke but was a stupid .cfg file setting.

I sometimes use Parabot to get a feel for a map, its not that good imo but it will auto waypoint maps. The DL link at http://parabot.nuclearbox.com/ doesnt seem to be working tho'

I used PhineasBot, it was simplistic but entertaining enough. If I could have fun playing against them in my maps then playing against humans would be almost guaranteed to be much better.

Try Parabot, learns waypoints while you play the map. (but doesn't work with Steam  )

Bot is, as bot does.
