HL2 will have some fierce competition. I think you'll be pleased.

It's a site where you can download the official Halo 2 commercial video.

No it wont. It's half life 2 ... no matter how good Halo 2 will be, it wont be as big of a competitor. Not to mention, they're on two different areas of the market that aren't fighting usually. A computer has games as an added bonus revenue in general, while a gaming console has nothing but video games...

Well, since HL2 is coming out on the PC, and Halo 2 is for the XBox, I don't see these two game competing at all...

Halo 2 does look like it will be very good though. Obviously it's nowhere near HL2 in the graphics department, but it is only a GeForce 3 afterall, and grapihcs != gameplay :smile:

At least Halo 2 comes with proper multiplayer!

Because Halo 2 is Xbox Live compatible it can have all the updateds and added bonuses that a computer game gets. That's the great thing about Xbox.

The point he was making was that the XBox can't survive financially without selling a lot of games. PCs themselves make money irrespective of what software people buy to run on them; the XBox doesn't.

On the one hand it looks cool enough becuase I want to see the story continue.

On the other hand the tiny gameplay snippets look identical in gameplay and graphics to Halo, only this time we get to jack Ghosts and use double Needlers :rolleyes:

I'm not a big graphics nut. I tend to seperate graphics from gameplay. There are only certain instances where graphics play a heavy part: If the game is newly developed and has outdated graphics by 8 to 10 years. But usually, bad gameplay will turn me away.

Also, I like that computational statement you used. How about this one?

halo := <c,r,a,p,p,y>;
2 := <s,h,i,t>;

halo union 2;
-> <c,r,a,p,p,y,s,h,i,t>

this situation of results works in other ways as well, for example:

halflife := <a,w,e,s,o,m,e>;

halflife union 2;
-> <a,w,e,s,o,m,e,s,h,i,t>

I rest my "logical" point.

Uh, and Half-Life 2 doesn't look identical in gameplay to Half-Life 1, only this time we get to shoot combine soliders instead of Marines with a machine gun instead of a... machine gun? Of course it looks the same as Halo 1, it's made for the XBox! I think it's looking amazing from the trailers so far; you can at least count on some great set pieces and fights, like the last game, and a story line that will keep you compelled. And here's another logical statement for you: Halo 2 multiplayer ? CS:Source ≈ 0

Here's the thing, I really enjoyed HL's gameplay, and would be perfectly happy if it was similar. Halo's gameplay was lame, except for the close combat options and the sheer difficulty of it. HL's AI is lightyears ahead of Halo's, and I'd bet the same will be true for the new generation. I didn't say anything about Halo's graphics, as of course it's going to look similar.

I've come to appreciate CSS, as it really is much better than regular CS. Halo's mp is perfect for consoles, as it allows for suckass players to do well against great players, but I'd rather play mp games that aren't so artificially restrictive in their allowable skill levels.

I liked Halo, though I'd have liked it a little more if they hadn't used the same room so often. You know the one. It has the round corridor, encircling the windowed room. I felt it was repeated just a bit too often. It had variations, yes, but it was still the same room. Scrapping half of them would have improved the game, even if it shortened it a little.

Hehe, that infamous room eh Fishy? I agree entirely, it was just insane
the number of times they used it. Then you had to travel all the way
back through them...madness. The library was pretty repetitive too - it
started as one hell of a level and turned into a gamers nightmare.

Those level design issues aside though, it was a fun game, and an
excellent coop title. If Halo 2 avoids the repetition then I'm sure it
will be another game I'll waste many hours of my life on :smile:

OMG Halo 2 looks amazing, the story has more depth to it than the last one, and from watching the MTV's "making of Halo 2" the levels do look more relistic. The designers actually admited that the levels on Halo 1 were repititious, and that Halo 2's new levels will have a great more detail to them.

Personally I think I going to skip school and work on Nov 9 just to play Halo 2 because it looks amazing. And do the midnight maddness thing at GameStop :biggrin: .

I'm going to have to disagree; there's a clear skill-gap between experienced players and bad ones. Lots of various tricks to learn, just
like any MP game. While I'm sure the sticky-crosshair and aiming with a
controller isn't very entertaining for HLDM veterans, Halo MP is still
quite solid and has served as a great introduction to FPS for new players. I
mean, it's better they play Halo before Counter-Strike corrupts them,
right? :wink:

The sticky crosshair or whatever it is and the large reticle are really what bother me. I can hit people in the head with the pistol without it and from a distance, but everybody else gets this artificial crutch. My aim is one of my best skills, so I'm confident I could blow many people away if it wasn't there. It's really lame to get beaten by average players just because the game equalizes skill so much.

It's like playing one of the EA Bond games with autoaim on so all you have to do is run around and hold down the trigger. What's the point?

I guess if my DM strength was in knowing the levels or being able to time it so I always got powerups my opinion would be different :razz:

It's pretty easy to get the lock off, though. That's where it's really
different from a lot of FPS's (at least on consoles); aim is not as
much of a factor, but more about movement and strategy. I'm not sure
how good your aim would be on a low-resolution split-screen television
with an analog joystick either, and would probably cause undue
frustration without stickiness. I'm tempted to insult you and attribute it to your lack of
skill, but that wouldn't be right...I understand your annoyance with
the stickiness, and yeah the pistol is pretty unbalanced. :smile:

I don't know, Halo just really appeals to me. It's not the powerups as
much or the fairly repetitive levels. I just feel it's pretty easy to
pick up and play, but also fairly deep to an extent that a wide
audience can grasp the mechanics. Small little tricks (i.e.
bunny-hopping, rocket jumping, etc.) don't make or break the entire
game; even new players can have a good time. I guess it doesn't appeal
to those "h4rdkor3" gamers? :razz:

OMG!!!! Halo 2 rules over the old one, Everything that was wrong with the first was fixed (with the exception of the repeditive levels). The designers at Bungie really out did them-selves, the graphics have improved drasticaly.

But most of all what I like the most about it THEY REMOVED THE PISTOL!!!!! Thank god for this, some may say noooooo, but the pistol was cheap, and now multiplayer will be more diverse than the last. Besides you still have the magnum now that you can use (it has a zoom but you cant fire in it). The new "pistol" is is a birst fire rifle with a scope.

And the story is diverse from the first two hours ive played it. The covanet now talk, and//////SPOILER (Highlight the black text to reveal)////// you play as an Elite/////END spoiler which is cool cause you get to see the conflict from another perspective.

This is not a game to be missed by any. Well time to go back and play some more.

F**k that, the pistol was the coolest gun in the game. Pistol and either the shotgun or assault rifle are all you needed.

Ooh, just played the first 2-3 missions with my friend. Definately good
stuff. Bad news though, the repetitiveness is still there to a degree -
lots of reusing of rooms. But ultimately, very very fun. Boarding
vehicles and such just adds such a great layer of coolness to it!
Graphics are also amazing; new Blood Gulch knocked my socks off.

Pistol and the new Burst Rifle don't seem to be as useful as before
though, mostly because the plasma rifle has been really revamped and
there's lots of new Covenant weapons. Though in MP, it seems the sword
is the new cheap weapon of the day (at least with small deathmatch
games). People are going to have to rethink how they play Halo MP. :smile:
