Thanks for the feedback on the map guys, but I'm still pretty sure I'm gonna use a different level for the contest. You never know though, it might turn into a full map sometime.

Thanks Korn
That rockwork looks great CJ, but have you the r's to spare to apply some of that rockiness to the ground? it's flatness is a rather stark contrast to those cliffs.

The texture on that crossing bridge thingy in picture 3 looks WAY out of place. Maybe something of a similar colour set would look better. Majestic just doesn't fit

......some of the best screenshot of maps ive seen like ever. how many hours goes into getting this level of detail or is it more likely to be measured in weeks? or do you stroke you ego, and say its easier than breathing maps like these ? goes and works on map

I quite like the bridge as it is - metal is usually quite angular and i'm guessing that the author of the concept art intended the bridge to be retractable.
However, if you were wanting to flower it up a bit, maybe add some girders below it. I prefer the clean look myself though
Sprinkle some sand onto that texture on the top of the rocks though

Well as usual it's very WIP. I'll try to limit some of the wpoly (my cliff technique lends itself very well to func_illusionary-ing certain chunks), fancy-up the bridge and sand, and look into changing the texture for the top (but as you can see in the concept art, it's clearly rock. so I guess I'll find something)

I apologize for the miss wording. What i ment was that the current bsp file (map) that i have is a bit old. And the current .map file has not yet been compiled.

But you have to! You could have my 3rd map if you like - it just needs texturing  I don't have the time to do it myself at the moment
Seriously though - your map was looking pretty cool, get it finished up as best you can and enter it. I don't remember there being anything in the rules about playability of the maps

thats such an old shot monkeh, But still funny stuff
hawkins, really nice atmosphere, Without playing the map I can see it.
I unfotunately may not be entering as I hoped to do. formatted my comp recently, Got the files on cd, But I dont have hl any more as I plan on just installing steam. Problem is, I forgot steam is a modders nightmare & most of the engine is hidden in dodgy cache files :/
Il let you know if I re-enter, But I may just scrap it.

I really don't think its gonna work out... I kinda gave up on it- there just wasn't enough detail in it to play well. But it was just kinda fun to run around in.

k, I cant get back to mapping untill sunday & it means configuring vhe with steam also so I probably wont get anything done until monday, leaving me 2 days :/
/me prays the deadline gets extended because hl2's release date has also.
Ive decided I really want to enter so as soon as I get steam back up i'l try to map as fast as I can. Untill then, I suppose I can make new textures etc.

due to circumstances beyond his control, i have been compiling wildcards map for him, if anyone else is having issues (looks at korn and his steamy one) i can compile for you as well..
as with WC, all i need is the vital components uploaded to a place i can get to.. (sky, textures, map file)
anyways, there you are, my second contribution to the comp..
as usual, i am available for private/public critiques for any comp map..
my PM works 24/7

Gah! my map now crashes hlcsg with no error messages. I think I have way too many solids as the map consists of mostly ReNo-style triangle terrain... I've tried eliminating portions of it to localize the problem, but it seems to be unrelated to any specific feature. if I eliminate enough solids, it compiles successfully, but otherwise, no go.
Looks like no comp entery for me.

Glad you like it mate, I hope it compiles! Its kinda wierd that I haven't seen a compiled version in so long, its quite annoying working without having a properly lit and VIS'd version to check out now and then. I doubt lep will delay the comp further though, its been a long time in coming this deadline, so I guess it really should be final. Won't complain if he extends it of course
