Many people blame the games. Is why some games (like Max Payne) have put in some parental locks. Still, people who blame games are morons, the movie industry is as bad and no one blames them. Not that I do but still.
And parents should be more responsible. That I totaly agree on.

What a responsibility-dodge  I'm sure $256 million had something to do with the claim as well.

Oh well, we win in the long run. Pretty soon the generation that played games as kids will be in power; no more Lieberman or whatever to bitch and such.

Movies influence I suppose a sort of aggressive nature (very little) into me far more than games, But it would be stupid to say they make me do anything.
Shooting games, I dunno, Ive always treated it as strategy - Choosing which weapon is best here or here, I never actually think about it being a gun I spus.
I can honestly say I never really get into games heavily unless they are team based or one of the very few war games that actually realise that the english were involved.
Its moronic to blame games on acting out things as severe as this, Once you stop playing a game, It should just end there.

It's those dumbass kid's parents fault. There is no way they could have bought that game without an adult. Those parents won't win in court, because it's rated mature. Mature games can only be bought by those 18+ age. It's these dumbass retards and their idiotic parents who try and blame this stuff on others cause they are to stupid to accept the fact they suck at parenting and their childern are messed up in the head.

Myself I don't watch 18 films or play 16 rated games. I do blame parenting when 8-year-old kids watch things like South Park and play GTA. It's not dangerous, but it's downright reckless. I don't blame games or movies though for kid's actions. I've seen kids about 6 crossing the main road on their own, and also about 9 year olds staying out in the evening. I also blame parents for that. Two generations ago there were none of these problems, and kids were much better behaved.
(edit)I agree with Korn about games. I think of them as a strategy and not about the violence. However you could say this is bad. Maybe it will do kids good to go to the Holocaust museums and see what really happens in war.

It's absolutly correct to blame the parents. however, you can't claim that these games don't effect us. it's a statistical fact that people who play shooters are more capable of actualy shooting in real life. not that it makes them more likely to commit a crime, only that those who are imbalenced enough to do somthing like this are better at it from playing. that's why the military uses such things in training.

your first mistake TB was saying the word "statistical"
personally, i doubt it, but see the potential.
i live in arkansas, i have butchered animals most my life, it still bothers me to sickness
i don't see games with fake blood removing that..
but, anything is possible :/

I'm not talking about the violence per se. certainly not the blood. I personlay don't think I could handle skinnig a deer. the most I've ever done is gutted a fish. I would think hunting or sloughtering would have the effect of forceing home a realization of the consequences of your actions.
it's more the tactical aspects that the games teach, and the inherent detachment. Ammo conservation and such. What I've heard is that in training police and military personel, it is nessicary to train them not to simply keep shooting until the traget goes down. it's instinctive, but inefficent. Kids who grow up on these games, are pretrained in this way. I remember hearing alot after the thurston, and colombine incedents, about how strange it was that the kids would shoot someone once or twice and move on, rather than pumping a whole clip into one person, as years of experience in training militray personel had led them to expect.
note that this is all heresay, but it makes alot of sense.

I highly recommend reading "Killing Monsters" by Gerard Jones. I'm still pushing my way through it right now, but it's a very good piece on the subject.
Another thing to keep in mind is that, at this point, there is as much evidence linking violent behavior to violent media as there is evidence that would seem to disprove such a link - in fact, there are studies where children show greater aggressive tendency after watching Mr. Rogers neighborhood. That study also seemed to indicate that if there is any link between media and aggressive behavior, it's the amount of exposure to media in general rather than specific exposure to violent media - keep a healthy mix of social interaction with your media exposure and you're much better off than just being isolated away from the real world.
Numerous cases similar to this have been dismissed, and it seems that slowly but surely games are gaining respect. I think the key is (partially) teaching the general public how games can be so much more than simple mindless killfests, and that it is as legitimate an entertainment and storytelling art form as any other media. If the general public continues to believe that these are so evil, we'll just continue to see more attempts to point the blame at the "great satan" so to speak. shrug
Just remember that music and movies have been grilled the same way games are now, and came out solidly on top in the long run.

what bothers me the most is the peoples general selectiveness about stuff.
i know i am biased because i drive for a living, but cell phones harm-maim-kill more people every day, than ALL other distraction driving topics combined, it is the #1 cause of all driver related incidents on our roadways today, but people persist in seeing it benignly
i just cannot get over how people associate "what-cause's-what" anymore.
i despise certain kinds of music, but would never consider it a root cause of violent behavior, same with TV, and gaming.
as weird as most of you think i am, i just cannot grasp the "blame someone else" mentality..
if a child turns out violent, it can usually be traced back to their family structure, IF one looks hard enuff, with peer pressure a close second..
still i can believe the Mr.Rogers thing, they did an interview with him once, and you know what??? he hated children, and on several occasions, became very angry with child extras onset :/

Orph, it's all a preception issue. a car accident, while horrible, does not capture the public imagination the way a gunshot wound does. statistical fact has no bearing on the leaning of a society as a whole. it is unemotional, and therefore meaningless to the masses. people do not take their predudices to any sort of logical conclusion.
You may note that more people die in one year on the roads of america than did in the whole of the Vietnam War, but that didn't prevent your generation from going insane over it.

Parents, definately parents in my opinion!
Ever since the Jamie Bulger case, People can be prosecuted for supplying overage films/games to kids (Even their parents). A good move in my opinion. Makes it a bit harder, maybe not cut iit out but makes it harder.
YEah I like the mobile thing, thats a good move!
In my town currently you get an on the spot fine for littering. ?50 (us$75) per time, including Cigarette butts.

Parents shouldn't take all the blame. If the kids are in the wrong, then they should take some/all of the blame. Parents, just like television and the media can be a bad influence on the young mind. But those parents who are sueing the company that made the game that they say made their kids go out and kill a load of people need their heads examined.
It seems to me that some people must just be born with a natural disposition towards violence. After all, you don't see people who play games going around mimicing everything the game does. If they did, then we'd all the in trouble.
