The HL2DM league that we have a snarkpit clan registered for is due to
begin this Sunday the 10th of April. We are meant to have entered a
decision as to our home map by the 7th of April, as in tomorrow.
Obviously this is kinda tricky as I've only now been able to put up
this thread asking, but any input you guys who are in the team have
would be appreciated.

At the moment I'm thinking dm_torque with friendly fire 0 (as in you
cannot damage team mates). Torque is made by a local and has always
proven popular on the server, so to me it seems like a wise choice. If
the people who have joined the team think otherwise, or agree, then
please let me know ASAP. I'll need to post our decision to the league
organiser tomorrow night, so don't take too long thinking over this.
The list of maps that can be chosen can be read here...

It is my considered opinion that if no maps made by non snarkpit members will be considered for the server, that no valve made maps should be considered as well. Afterall, the primary reason that I was given paraphrase's "Why have another server with the same maps everyone else is running"

There are a s**tload of better maps than most of the maps in that list. I favor above all that we support our own first and foremost, but to not use great maps simply because they were not published by pit members, should void anything made by valve as well.

I love yaks map, if there are enough people, i prefer maze's map if the count is 4 or less however. I vote for yaks on the simple concept being, there should always be enough people to fill the server.

/ 2 cents

Errr, we are picking a map to play against other teams in league
matches here mate, nothing to do with keeping servers full or anything
to do with the snarkpit server  Matches are played 4v4, so the map we
choose should be good for 8 person games (which I think Torque fulfills
quite nicely). Maze's map would also be a good choice - I've got a soft
spot for Island 17 and I'm fairly handy at long range xbow ownage

I understand the distinction, but also feel that our goals should be the same.

since we have the option of chosing a pit member map, it should be one of ours chosen.

if i lead you to believe that i was discussing the server, as the topic, my appologies. my goal was to point out that our policy should govern both, assuming we are allowed to chose our own map to frag in.

On another note, my map made it into the list, woohoo  !

Sorry about that, but I'm fair cheering, especially considering its such a lagarama.

Oh, and I think Yak's map would be perfect as a home map for the
SnarkPit home team, as its one of the best custom and official maps
I've played.

Personally I think that Torque is a good choice if we are going to play
4v4 matches. Every Team Snarkpit member should played it many hours
because it was on the server from the very beginning. Count me in for
Torque!

Torque? I was rather thinking about lockdown, but, hell, everyone's good at lockdown  . So I guess my vote goes to Torque.

Lockdown will be picked by countless other teams, so I wouldn't worry
about getting chances to play it. Refinery is another possibility, and
I do agree its ideal for TDM. Torque is still my preferred choice, but
if more wanted Refinery or Island17, or Hydro or Swamplight for that
matter, then I'm fine with any. Rebar is a cool map but definately
isn't in the running as I for one can't play it due to the visual
glitch. It is in the league, so we may come up against it at times, but
on those occasions I'll definately have to sit out.

Oh and Agent Smith, I pimped out a few Pit maps to the HLCCL a while
back, including yours, so you can thank me for it being in the
selection list

There are far too many choices for a poll, plus with a poll anybody can
vote, while the only opinions that really matter are those of the
people who registered for the team.

So far there are 4 distinct votes for Torque, and 2 for Refinery.

The only thing that's strange are the buildings which give me the
unrealistic sensation that they were deliberately designed as mere
access-ways to that roof rather than apartment-buildings or such.

Due to technical issues, the league start has been postponed for a
week. Due to this, the clan homemap decision has also been postponed
for a week. So guys, get your thinking caps on, as we now need our
decision by thursday the 14th

The final league tables have been put up, as have our first week's line up.

http://www.hlccl.com/forums/showthread.php?p=685218

We are due to play SC at 18:00 GMT on Sunday the 17th. Their map is
dm_swamplight_final with friendly fire off, our's we NEED to decide by
Thursday 14th (as well as what we want with friendly fire, I recommend
off).

The game is a 4v4, so we need at least 4 people who are willing and
able to play. I will probably be able to play but I will be travelling
that day and there is a chance I won't be around at 6pm. If you are
willing and able to play at this time, say so here. I propose we meet
before the match in #snarkpit on IRC.

Just as a bullet point for Swamplight - It has team specific spawn areas. I definately tried to balance it for team gameplay. Doesn't matter to me, though - I'll play whatever map.
  • oop, just saw reno's post. I would pick either lockdown or torque. Count me in, if you like.

opinions post them here. As it stands, unless there are thoughts
otherwise, I'm going to say dm_torque with FF off.

Well more bad news on the league front; for some reason it could be
months before the proper wireplay servers are back up  In the time
being we are having a quick cup, where we play in small groups of 4
clans in a point system, before going on to a knock out (world cup
football style, or at least thats how I assumed it to be). Matches will
be played on community run servers, so we might be using the snarkpit
server at times.

The groups are random, so we've been grouped with some not bad matches
but actually have to play one of the top HLDM clans around, pmers
Should be a laugh, at any rate!

Our first match is still this sunday as planned, but now at 21:00 GMT
versus a clan called the.nine. They haven't yet picked their homemap
and have missed the deadline, which means we could be playing our own
map, dm_torque, twice. If the others in the clan agree, I'm happy to
play their pick of map on the night provided we all have it, as its all
in the spirit of good fun after all

If everybody could try and get hold of all the valid league maps (there
is a list, and quite a few links, here...
http://www.hlccl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48332 ), that would be
good. The warmup cup groups and match ups can be found here... http://www.hlccl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49040 .

will organise the team. Server IP is 217.146.89.3:27025. As I
mentioned, grab the maps beforehand if you can.

Well we had a close call today! We managed to field a team of 3;
myself, ding (on his non-gaming PC due to his gaming rig screwing up a
few days ago), and natus (with some horrible, and as of yet
inexplicable, lag issues). Thankfully our crippled team didn't have to
face the humiliating defeat we no doubt had coming, as the other team
didn't show. We have posted saying we are willing to reschedule, so we
might have a match against them soon. If they don't reply then we get
the default win.

Obviously since we had some trouble getting a measly 4 people to play,
we need to up the squad a bit. So if anybody is now thinking they might
wanna play sometime, please let me know now and post your steam ID (get
it by typing "status" in the console). The sooner the better really, as
the sooner I register you the sooner you can play.
