i'd been looking forward to the two dod:s maps that are due for release next week, until i found this. the 'new exciting gameplay' that valve had promised is nothing but a rip-off of de_gameplay. feck, if there weren't enough cs types playing dod:s already........

on the plus side, it looks like there's at least one new allied vehicle without snow on it. i could really use some of those.

The objective style gameplay is a different to cs, at least it used to
be. Maps like dod_glider are a perfect example of objective maps,
where, unlike cs which has a choice of one of two sites, there are a
number of objectives which all have to be included, and can use a
combination of capture area's and objectives.

I'll wait till it comes out before getting riled up about the
possibility of dod becoming cs. Besides, usually its the community that
makes the most of these types of gameplay. I've got a couple of map
idea's based around the objective mode, so I can't wait for it to be
released  .

I don't see how this is anything like CS. CS has regressed into only de_map game, sure there are cs maps but they are over looked by most players. Interesting, fun maps are all but gone from CS. I mean, dust2 is fun, but when its the only map with real people playing at a given time...

DoD could have de maps, but the game play of DoD would make it completely different.

While DoD is expanding and growing, CS is becoming more linear and its players are becoming much more narrow minded. New CS players don't know about cs_backally, as_tundra, and number of other maps.

Think clan play is to blame for the focus on DE, most leagues have been doing DE maps exclusively since.. oh.. beta 8? Maybe a little later, but it's been the focus for quite awhile now

as_tundra was the s**t. I remember playing that for about 5 hours straight at a LAN Party. Followed it up with some Warpath on TFC.

Oh the good old days...

I'm quite partial to cs_thunder myself  But as_oilrig is deffinetly a close second...

I've never been much of a DoD fan; when I looked at the nuts and bolts of the game, it was really nothing more than a very slow and annoying version of TFC to me. Still though; DoD players see something in it, and that's good. I also feel that de_ styled stuff is becoming much to copied in modern gaming in general.

Oilrig was one of my favorites. Always wanted to make a refinery-themed map after that, even though oilrig actually looked nothing like one

Pffft you're all big noobs! Beta 8? Get with the program - CS was at
its best in beta 4 / 5.2. They still had es_jail then, and that was
the dogs bollocks along with original de_nuke and cs_tire.

I remember playing CS beta 3 (or something as such). I didn't think it was good then and I don't think it's good now.

If Dod is going down that path, I will be very distraught. That game really has game-play unlike any other I've played throughout the years. Even other WW2 MP FPS don't feel the same. Dod is fairly unique in that aspect. It'd be a shame to ruin that.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I try to be sympathetic when ever someone gripes about this or that game but you know what? With 56k ALL games suck. I actually have to make myself log in online now. Even to come here..

Its kinda hard for me to work up any concern that supersedes that.

We arn't the "fanboy" CS players, we are the people who keep a life line on the game. The clans, the 13 y/o asshats, the hackers, the crappy-map-likers, the kill-box players, the killbox makers, the blah, blah, rant, rant.... rant... rant...

 I first played Beta 3.2 Oh the good ol' times. I think the weapon
balance was best in Beta 4 or 5.2, now it's all f**ked up and I don't
like it anymore... As for DoD I still play the original every once in a
while. It's nice to have guns that actually do something more than make
funny noises.

I don't see what's to complain about. DoD has always had the demolition gameplay, now they are just bringing it to Source. As mentioned before Glider aswell as Charle were both demolition maps, and CS's demolition is much different from DoD's. I just wish Valve would hurry up and release, Glider, Charlie, Caen, and Forest.

I used to like Glider twas a good map.

But the two things I want them to put into DOD:S is the British and Caen it was my favorite map (closely foloed by Avalanche) and the British were my favorite side maily for the Bren. Oh and the Enfield was good aswell as I preffer the bolt action rifles and it held to strip mags.

Too bad they changed dod_jagd. I thought the 'capture the secret documents'-style of gameplay was pretty cool too.

Not to mention they absolutely have to port Caen and Heutau. I don't care if it's a straight port with ugly textures, I just want to camp Caen's town hall again.

I started out playing TFC, then started playing CS, then DoD, and I have to say I love all three of these games.

I love DoD for the atmosphere (and they've done a good job with this in DoD:S). I also love DoD for the last second flag defends, powerful grenades, different classes, and the maps are filled with z-axis gameplay.

When I was playing DoD:S last summer, I really got into argentan, I just loved fighting for that middle cap point.

I'd also like to see Glider. I really enjoyed playing as the British, with their dual clip bolt action rifles. Very fun to snipe with it while advancing at the same time

Anyway, I think TFC, CS, and DoD are great in their own regards, and I hope none of them start melding gameplay styles. DoD is already pretty fast paced, but it's a good sign that no fy_dod maps exist (at least I hope they don't!).

My favriote CS map of all time was cs_estate. Simply because it actually seemed like a house, as opposed to a labyrinth style map.

Yeah, it definately feels like that. Though nowadays all i play in CS:S is cs_militia, and some days you actualy manage to assemble a team with wich you can plan a defence or assault. Then you have a great time, but most of the time its just riding out the round until someone gets into your sight(or you in theres for whats worth it.).

Aw well, Day of Defeat was best in the B3.1 days. Anybody remember DOD_zwetz? DOD_overlord?
