Me and Crono are having a game of chess at the moment (he is thinking...) and I came up with a great idea. A snarkpit chess tournament. We would play chess through yahoo games (its free, just make an account). Anyone is free to enter the tournament. Once we have a list of who is in, I'm going to construct a round robbin map (everybody vs's somebody, the person who loses gets eliminated, keeps going until there are two people left, the winner from the game wins the tournament.)

So, who is in?

How about we get a single game going on in this thread. Anyone can make the next move for any team by posting. In the event of simultaneous posts, only the first one counts. Game commentary is also ok in intermediary posts.

I'll make the first move:

yes, sure, but i was the one getting pwned. then, at the end, i won for some odd reason. heh, poor aaron, first he was pwning me to death, then BLAM! i win. that was really odd, he had way more points then me. mabye it was something he did :\ we were both shocked.

EDIT: hmm, now what did he do again? ah, yes, at the last turn there was a arrow pointing at one of the holes, and he just took a normal shot like he allways did. i'm no expert at pool, but i think he was sopposed to shoot one of the balls into that hole.

Maybe it would be easier if you just used images of the same chess board with your respective moves (512x512 and compressed)?

The game til now:
1. e3 a6?
2. Nc3 c6
3. Nf3 Nf6

and now I'll move:
4. Bc4

If any of the players have a problem with this, please let me know.

I will be getting into contact with the other 3 players to make sure they know whats going on and help them organize a game.

To play chess on yahoo games, you need go here. You need a yahoo account to play chess, if you don't have one, just create one here Players need to be in the same room to play with each other, and during the game, players have the ability to chat with each other. You can also watch a chess game so if you're interested in watching a match, contact me or one of the folks playing in that match to get details about when the match will be playin and what room and so on.

So good luck players and let the competition commence. Game on  !!

Don't know yet buddy, let me just finish off a few things and I'll get into contact with you. Use this spare time to have a game or two to get familiar with how it works. Its pretty simple, you'll get it on your first go.

But its really up to the two players to decide what room, sometimes the rooms are full and stuff.

Nice to see you two guys are working it out  . If I can be of any assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Here is a map of the worlds timezones. I live on the east coast of Australia so my time zone is +10. If you don't have access to any instant messaging program, than maybe state your timezone and what time you will/usually be on so you're opponent can translate to his timezone and work it all out.

Basically when you're translating a time zone, if you're moving forward (eg: +6 to +10, -8 to -2 or +11 +12 to -2 -3) time is moving forward. If you're going backwards (eg: +10 to +2, -3 to -11 or -10 -11 to +5 +4) than time goes backwards. Here is an example. Its 10am in Sydney Australia and I want to find out what time it is in Los Angeles, America. I would count backwards from +10, +9, +8.... or forwards from +10, +11, +12, -12... and would keep going. And Find out that it is 4pm In LA when its 10am in Sydney. Also be wary of timezones with daylight savings. I am experiencing daylight savings at the moment, so my time is 1 hour more than usual. Eg: Normal time = 10am, daylight savings=11am. .

Anyways. Mazemaster, My time zone is +10 and I should always be on between 2pm and 3pm Monday-Friday. If this time zone suits you, then just name one of these days and I'll make sure I'll be on. I'm on other days/times as well but it varies depending on how much school work or if something is on that day.

I'm working on a chess map now
Knights are impossible to make though... and I thought bishops were hard lol
lol, nice idea for a gimmick map. Actually, in HL2DM you just had to build the chess pieces and move them via gravity gun.
Why snark works.

I'm at the seahorse grotto right now fishy if yer listening = )

I'll be on for about an hour, and then back on tonight, possibly as early as 8pm eastern time (gmt -4 think).

Have any of you other yahoo chessies got the timer hack or others done to you? like i said, i never encountered those type of things on the old yahoo chess...

I guess you could avoid it or avoid caring about it by sticking to unrated games, but still...

Just an update:

The competition is still on. I haven't gotten a reply from mazemaster yet. And I am having difficulty getting into contact with Captain Terror. He hasn't been online on snarkpit since his lost post in this thread. I will need to contact him through twhl I think.

There you are! Well, I am still waiting to hear back from mazemaster so it looks like you and fishy will have your game done first.

Captain Terror, download Chatzilla if you have firefox, or download mIRC. Once you do that, scroll down to the bottom of any page on snarkpit and click "IRC". This is like the snarkpit chat room. I'll be there every time I am online from now on, if I see you AND fishy is on steam, I'll let you to know. Alternatively, you could just download steam (small download) and join the snarkpit steam community group where you can chat directly to fishy. I suggest you download steam but heck, why not get both.

Now, does anybody know how I can contact mazemaster?
