Map Description

After about 14 months, the map is finally "finished".

For you guys who havent heard about the map before:
The map takes place in a futuristic city high enough to reach above the clouds.

One thing that i really miss is that very few people actually write stuff about how they did their maps, and how they thought when they did them. So I wrote one myself called "the story behind dm_cloudcity"

The textures is partially made by me, partially by Skurmedel, partially by Teddybear, partially by Valve, and partially by IZaNaGI.

This map is the BEST map I have played in ages, the theme, atmosphere, concept, sounds, lightning, texturing, all flow together perfectly...
I congratulate you for the magnificent work you have achieved, and this successful map you have created ...

Well Done, You deserve more than a feedback ^^

Best Kind Regards,

ZnZ

I finally was able to run the map after that library authentication problem.

I must say, it looks really nice. The whole central area looks pretty impressive, and I like how you turned the storage area into a vertical playground - looks very interesting.

I didn't like how some parts were contrasting white (rich room's floor), it felt overdone, and I don't think the custom skin for those wooden crates fits - metal in HL2 is unbreakable (a Valve design choice) so that felt unnatural here. And perhaps the map was a bit too detailed, e.g. I sometimes got overwhelmed by the complexity of the scene. But I don't know how distracting that really is during gameplay, so oh well. :)

Gameplay-wise, the map is very easy to learn (took me about 5 minutes to understand the whole layout, might take some longer to understand the item placement) and it looks like some action will never be far away.

To conclude: feels impressive, and looks fun to play. Congrats. :)

Pity about the size but it is very nice looking, i got a BladeRunner vibe when i was running around it :)

What an impressive project. And it comes with a full making-of. What a cool idea!

I love the atmosphere. The cars flying in the sky. The clouds you fall into. The buildings in the distance shining through thick layers of fog.

When you started the project you said it was going to be a map to push the limits. And it does.

I only have two complaints: First, the limits are being pushed to a point where many people will suffer performance problems even with their standard video configurations. This could have been solved with more custom-prop work, although I know too well that this would take a ridiculous amount of time, it is a solvable problem.

Secondly, some of the custom textures are too bright, especially with the cubemap reflections. They sometimes don't fit with the darker HL2 palette. Also the cubemaps seem to be messed up for me. It seems they only reflect the default sky texture?

Except for that the map is an inspiration for all HL2DM mappers out there. It was for me. Thanks.

It makes me want to play Jedi Knight on this, running around with HL2DM weapons feels so wrong here. :)

To some extent, I don't think I've ever seen a map so detailed, simply by looking at the screens. I realize that I have not played the map, but simply based on that it took you 14 monthes to do this, and that it looks excellent, you deserve a slap on a the back and a congrutlations on a job well done ;)

It looks like you just single-handedly raised the bar -- by quite a lot.

This map has altered so much since it was first posted here. I loved the progression it made through its transitions. Some of the alterations didn't improve it much while others added gloriously.

I downloaded the final version and must confess that I am impressed with the final product. I noted a few dead ends, but nothing that should be detrimental to the game flow to any harmful point.

I also must confess that this map has the largest credit listing of any project I have ever seen. Your book keeping skills must nearly rival your stick-toitiveness on your mapping.

Sadly, the map has a downside. Its very size (unzipped) will more than likely prevent it being added to many servers. Thats sad.

/Me bows to Master MisterBister
Job well done.

One of the most impressive source maps I've seen around. Good theme, nice brushwork, lovely atmosphere. The force is strong with this one !

MisterFister dubidubidu

This map kicks arse, just in case anybody isn't clear on that.

Yes, this is the most pointless post in history.
