I just got back from a whole day of paintball. We went to a small establishment near the foot of the Angeles Forest. My friends had invited over a hundred people, but only four of us made it there. We actually got there late, but nothing has started yet. I guess it's tough for young people to get up early on the weekend.
After donning up our face masks and tested our guns, we started the game. I was inexperienced enough to have a jammed gun right from the beginning. Fortunately, a teammate showed me how to unjam the gun barrel. It didn't help much though, because I got shot before I fired a single bullet.
The second round, I learned my lesson, so I fired pretty much constantly at my opponents who were well-protected behind some barricade. Before long, my ammo ran out, and I was forced to use my gun as a bluffing tool, firing just blanks. I didn't have any reserve ammo with me.
I became smarter and smarter throughout the day. We skipped lunch and played on. The adrenaline was just feeding us. More and more people arrived, and the battles became quite chaotic. During each round, bullets just flew in all directions. And some of the times, I got hit by a sniper that I didn't even see.
When it came down to the last game, I got pretty brave. It was all or nothing. So far, I only shot one guy out. I was going to be either the hero, or go out in a blaze of glory. I made gradual advances toward the other team's flag, and surprisingly, I wasn't hit. I was just crawling around in the sand by that time. My face gritty with sands, my knee skinned raw from skidding on rocks, my brow dripping with a mixture of sweat and paint, I was running on my last leg.
Then I got to just a few feet within the opponents' flag. Bullets were flying in all directions. I said my prayer (even though I am an atheist), and made a dash for their flag. Shockingly, I got there and captured their flag without being shot, unlike the guy before me who tried the same thing.
I thought the game was over. I raised my gun, and shouted "game over". My enemies must have been pretty stunned, because for about ten seconds, there were no shots fired anywhere. Then, one of my teammates ran to me and said "give me the flag". Someone suddenly clued me that the game wasn't over until I bring the flag back to our base. I started running back, but then half a dozen shots hit me on the back. I felt like a victim in a John Woo movie.
What a way to end a day of paintball. I learned the meaning of "capture the flag", and earned some red badge of courage in the process.
Yeah, I know what you all gonna say. "What a n00b not knowing the rule in advance". But I had fun, and that's priceless.

I love paintball. I didn't read any of your post, because it's long and I'm tired... but I still love paintball.

I found out later from the staff that I was the only person who took
the flag the entire day yesterday. As a result, our team won.
Most games ended when time ran out. We had ten to fifteen minute
games, and if everyone played hardcore defense, nothing happens when
the fifteen minutes are up.

It's not cheap in the States either. It costs $70 per person to
rent the equipment and buy the paint. Yesterday, there were
mostly hard-core people there. People with their own customized
$1700 fully-automatic weapons and full camouflage. We had a clear
disadvantage with our rental semi-automatic guns that lack both range
and accuracy. I managed to take out just one person.
However, the one major difference between paintball/real battle and
Counter-Strike is that you have to learn to position your body to offer
the minimal profile for your opponents. I was pretty much
crawling on my belly the whole time. Ants crawled on my face and
even into my ear. I could taste the gritty sands in my
mouth. All my elbows and knees are without skin today.
I had to throw away the shirt, pants, shoes, and socks I was
wearing. They're just torn and too dirty to launder. I was
pretty hard-core myself, as you can see.

I went paintballing about 5 days ago, a whole days worth. I'm thinking about joining a regional team, I was pretty damn good at it. Didn't get hit once in the whole day!

A day of paintball finally inspired me to install Counter-Strike. I've never played CS before, and wasn't really interested until it occurred to me that it's sort of like paintball, but without the dirt and pain (or the extra cost). It's like free paintball tournaments.
I'll see whether my assumption is really true. I had to wait six hours for Steam to update the game when I installed it, so I haven't really had a chance to load it up yet.

I've never played paintball, I'd like to, but it's too expensive. I have once played laser, that was fun.

Errr... It's only played indoors fewl!
When I went the other day paintballing I spent around ?60 for the day ($100 or so?), quite expensive but well worth it for a days worth of fun and weeks of joy of thinking about it afterwards.
I found when I went that all you had to do was flank the enemy and they are screwed. Go around on your own or with 1 other, any more and your cannon fodder. All I did was lone wolf style mainly, crawl round the edge of the entire arena down the right (so right handed people find it harder to find cover against me) then get behind the enemy.
The funniest moment was when I was behind 3 people and they turned around. I thought "s**t, better try out some halo moves" so I did, and they actually worked. I just straffed and duck jumped- took out 2 of them and they were only 5m away. After that the other guy (one of my best m8s) ran behind a load of logs. I then went into a building, ran out and knee capped him twice

Your paintball field is so green and grassy. The one I played on was full of sand and rocks. It must be a lot better crawling around in the grassy knoll than the rocky surface.

i remember playing in the snow and there was a guy there who was all decked out in white
he looked like one of the guys on a snow recon from a marine commercial

hurts, which really discourages me lol, i tried lazer once, but it
doesnt seem how paintball is, to me paintball is like, you, in a real
battle area, where if you got hit, YOU FEEL IT..
But i never played it  hehe

It doesn't hurt that much, but the hits do leave bruises and welts on the body for a week or so.
My recommendation is to wear gloves and knee pads. They really help to protect your body from the terrain.
