Just watched Gantz discs 1-3. Its nice but as Reno said not for children or people with problems with smut or extreme animated violence, but has a good plot and occasional laughs. Plus characters are pretty good so far and animation quality is great.

Watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith last night, not that great but Angelina Jolie's always hot. Some funny lines but not that funny since I can't remember them anymore.

Watched Doom tonight, also not a great movie. The action sequences were pretty good, though. Very violent, that's always good. Gave me some ideas to work into my map, too. :smile:

I watched the new Italian Job and Red Dragon tonight. Both were
Ed Norton flicks, and both were entertaining. The Italian Job was
just a disposable movie, entertaining for a single viewing, but I
wouldn't want to watch it again.

Red Dragon, on the other hand, could use another viewing, but I
wouldn't want to buy the DVD. If someone else owns it on DVD and
wants to watch it, I'd be game. I think Ed Norton did a better
job in this movie. I don't usually like horror/suspense type
movies, but if you Silence of the Lambs type movies then check this out.

Thomas Harris is writing a screen play for a fourth Hannibal movie right now. When lecter is about sixteen. It should be cool. Coincidently, when regarding the books, it's the general consensus that Silence of the Lambs is the "worst", simply because it's pretty boring. However, in movie translation, it's the best of the three films. Hannibal is probably the worst. Not that it's a bad movie, just ... wasn't thought out as well, I think. (No offense Riddley).

I have a lot of free time on my hands right now, being February Break,
and so I actually just watched 2 more movies and an episode of the
Office.

I watched Red Eye for the first
time. It wasn't that great, and I mostly blame the
screenplay. The dialogue just didn't seem to grab me at
all. The witty and romantic banter wasn't really that great, and
there wasn't really a moral or message to the whole piece... it just
seemed like one big set up for another one of Wes Craven's
knife-wielding maniacs chasing damsel through a house scenes. My
only real favorite part of the movie is when Cillian Murphy's character
reveals his secret. I just thought it was a cool idea (although
not cool enough for a feature film).

I watched Se7en tonight (yes I
just put the number in the title). I like it enough to own it,
and after taking a film class last semester I'm more impressed by the
camera work and directing. I think it's really good. Two of
my favorite parts are the soft focus shots in the library and in the
final car ride. Also, Morgan Freeman's character is
awesome. If you can stomach blood and disturbing ideas, there
should be nothing stopping you from watching this movie, in my opinion.

David Fincher is up there on my list of "Good Directors". That list also includes Chan Wook-Park (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, Lady Vengeance), Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requim for a Dream), Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral), Ang Lee (Hulk, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Brokeback Mountain). Amongst some Music Video -> Film directors (Mark Romanek, Francis Lawrence).

I'd put Ridley Scott on my list too ... but he's really hit or miss. His movies aren't consistently good, nor are they consistently bad.

Yeah Crono, I like Darren Aronofsky as well. I love watching
Requiem for a Dream, and much prefer it to Pi. The black and
white was just irritating I think in Pi (for some reason).

No it isn't. You're wrong. However, Requiem for a Dream is far better made film. And Jared Leto rocks. Disfiguring himself in almost every movie he's in.

Yeah Jared Leto just looks good
in the movie. I mean, you just want to keep looking at him when
he's on screen. It's one of those things you either have or you
don't.

Also, I was really surprised by how good of a job Marlon Wayans did in the movie. I thought he was just a WB icon.

I saw serenity the other night. It was a fun movie to watch. There were definatly some cool parts in it.

Watched Kingdom of Heaven last night, and while it wasn't anything wonderful, it was enjoyable. Orlando Bloom isn't the best of actors, lets face it, but he did an ok job as Balian and managed to look the part better than I would perhaps have expected. His voice just doesn't really work for that sort of role in my opinion, but it was bearable. At times the film just seemed really wierd and inexplicable - for example, the whole fact that this Blacksmith somehow turns out to be a good strategist for battle without any sort of training or experience, or seemingly turning his inherited wasteland into a wonderfully irrigated farm in the matter of what, days? As much as I like these "epic" films with massive battles and what have you they are getting a bit generic when it comes to the combat scenes, and there was little done here to stand out. Another rather odd thing was the focus on only one or two characters - these sorts of films normally have a set of characters who get a lot of screen time, but in this most of the other characters got only a few lines before they were killed off unceremoniously. It lead to the battles having little tension in them, as you didn't really have any cool characters to worry about.

Anyways, ok film, but nothing special.

One must not watch the movie with preconceptions of "HOW" something was supposed to be, or worse, what "is" supposed to be.

Like any movie involving a religious base, one must view it as a fantasy type setting, even if it is based on some factual events. Time for example. Time has NEVER been a constant in any biblical rendition. Why would time be any different in this movie? So what if he created a garden in days. Its no less impossible than believing in God.

As for leadership abilities. I was in the Army. I had no preceding training and took to it like a duck to water. I have a natural flair for getting people to do as I wish. Thats not boasting, its history. If one had the time to look into my military background, they would note my rise to power. I became a squad leader and a Sargent in less than 4 years.

Leaders are born. Leaders are sometimes made, but born is preferable.

I am agnostic and I loved the movie... Go figure.

Just finished DOOM.

If you watch it with no other expectations than its a sci-fi horror movie, you won't be disappointed. It really was a good watch.

If you cannot view it without thinking about the game, you'll prolly dislike it cause it only superficially resembles the game.

For a movie, I'd rate it a 7/10
For a DOOM movie, only a 5/10

I suggest you watch it as a movie unto itself.

Watched The Rock today after not seeing it in a long time. I still like it, because it's so entertaining.

I'm about to pop in Man on Fire. I'll let you guys know how it is.

I hear they're gearing up to release (as in, in talks about doing this) an extended version of Kingdom of Heaven. Like most Scott movies, the theatrical cut pales in comparison to the full cut he intended (except Blade Runner ... I wish they released the theatrical cut on DVD ... or at all) Anyway, if it's about as much of an improvement as the extended cut of Gladiator was over the theatrical it might slam that movie into the "Very Good" territory, instead of "Alright". Where is currently resides with myself ... and many other people.

I just hope it doesn't take six years :\

Man on Fire was really
good. Very very engrossing and satisfying to watch. The
radical film style can be a little unsettling, but the story is
awesome... especially if you violence is a guilty-pleasure of yours.

Best movie I've seen in months.

Yeah, Man On Fire's a really violent keeper. Doesn't show much of it if I recall correctly, but that's probably a good thing. :razz:

Watched The Transporter 2 last night, good times. I like Jason Statham and ass kicking. Probably the coolest scene in the movie was a deleted one, unfortunately... him throwing a pipe through a guy. I laughed.

Just watched The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. I thought it was
pretty boring for the most part. It's a movie from another era,
so the slow pacing is understandable, but still... it dragged on too
long. Clint Eastwood was awesome, but I really feel like they
could have compressed the film into 10 minutes of all the cool scenes
instead of making it so long.

It's Sergio Leone. You either have a taste for him or you don't. If you think that's long ... watch Once Upon a Time in America.

People would generally agree, though, that while "America" and "West" are his best movies. His "masterpieces". Once Upon a Time in the West is pretty much the first movie he made that was actually a work of "art", so to speak. Everything else before it was portraying his admiration of other film makers (styles of which he adapted to himself.)

If you don't like Leone, then you probably wont like Kurisawa. Which is a shame. Even though their films were made at least 20 years ago, they are still wonderful.

Yeah, I watched Rashomon by Kurosawa last spring, and while I liked
parts of it (mostly the ethical and contemporary implications of the
film's ideas) on the whole the pacing was too slow.

I guess I'm more of a fan of sleeker and more efficient
filmmaking. Which is not to say I don't like older movies,
because there are some that I really like.

Sergio films are definitely a "taste" theme. You either like them or loath them. I have never met anyone who is on the middle ground.

The once upon a time in the west movie is awesome if you can get past the draginess of the movie. It could easily have been reduced by an hour with no loss of the spirit of the intent. However, I like it as is and would have missed that hour. Just that stupid harmonica. It needed broken for sure.

I watched The Narrow Margin (1952)
tonight, and damn was it good. Definitely the best B-Movie I've
ever seen. It's only 70 minutes long and the pacing is so much
better than The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Watched Zathura , was a passable imitation of Jumanji.

Kingdom of Heaven - The other night, not really a bad movie. I'd say it was pretty good if it wasn't Orlando Bloom, because 1) I don't like him as an actor in general, 2) He's smaller than me and is still somehow a badass fighter. Meh. I'd just prefer a manlier dude to be the lead character.

The Island - Overly long, not all that great, and then a scene basically from Family Guy.

Saw II - I liked the first one and I liked this one. Obviously very violent, the acting was decent enough. I'd say decent enough plot twists but I suspected 2/3 of the ones they had at the end. Best of the 3, anyhoo.

Recently watched:

Saw II.. Part one was much better, but the shock factor ending was still fabulously done. I never saw either ending coming.

Butterfly Effect, Directors cut.. Was pissed.. Totally. The re-written ending was not only a bulls**t concoction, but..

anyway, watch only the theatrical version.

Watched both part one and two of "The Transporter" .. They were OK I guess.

I just watched Doom.

The sets were good. The movie was pretty crappy until the First
Person Cam kicked in. From that point on until the end I thought
the movie was really entertaining and enjoyable to watch. It was
just... so satisfying.

I like how they tied in pinky too, by the way. Very Doom3 and very very awesome.

Haven't seen it in a while, but..

DOG SOLDIERS

British soldiers training literally in the middle of nowhere, someplace in Scotland, find themselves under attack by werewolves.

One of my favorite parts is when one of the troops is nailing the front
door shut when a werewolf reaches in through the mail slot. Without
missing a beat he starts wailing on the werewolf's hand with the hammer
until it retreats.

Just watched Truffuat's French New Wave classic "The 400 Blows" and I
have to say I really really enjoyed it. It was funny, touching,
iconic, entertaining, silly/fun, and just a great watch all around.

Good movie but sorely disappointing for what I expected from the previews. I expected a comedy, I got a totally dysfunctional "real life" one.

We watched Starship Troops 2 last night, which was my second time. Dunno why I put myself through the punishment really :biggrin: I've seen worse films, but not all that many. The face that the leading lady pulls when she touches the medic's hand and has a "vision" is so ludicrously hilarious that I've rewound it about 4 times in each viewing of the film just for the laughs.

Figured it out about at the point where I knew she wasn't crazy. Who else would it be? Seriously. The thing that pissed me off though ... what was that whole thing with those two guys staring at her from the building in the beginning? I mean, they didn't even do a crap job of saying something like "they're cops". That bugged the hell out of. Damn stupid lose ends.

I liked the movie a lot until that part. I really think they let the cat out of the bag too soon though, the movie drags a little bit until he begins scheming some more.

+The New World - One of the best movies I have seen in a few years. Slow moving, but then again, I enjoy slow.

+This is Spinal Tap - Hillarious Christopher Guest flick that has pretty abstract humour. Not for all tastes though. Dry humour ensue :smile: .

+Lord of War - Good movie. Violent and good.
<br style="color: gray; font-family: Verdana;">+Irreversible - Awesome movie. For those who enjoy violently twisted foreign films.
<br style="color: gray; font-family: Verdana;">+The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. In theatres now with Tommy Lee Jones. Again, slow, but worth the watch. Set in Texas and Mexico.

+Final Destination 3 - OK movie. It is the worst one of the trilogy, not to say that it is bad, just not the best one. The 1st one has the best plot and development. #2 has the best death scenes. #3 is just a weaker version of #1 & 2.....enjoyable enough though.

+The Aristocrats. An extremely vulgar movie verbally. It is a documentary on the history of the joke The Aristocrats. Its pretty hillarious.

+Haute Tension. (High Tension in English). A lame French horror movie based on the book Intensity by Dean Koontz. You wont find them saying thats where they pulled their material from....but they did.....s**tty movie.

+Ripley's Game. The sequel to The Talented Mr. Ripley. Except this one is starring John Malkovich and it kicks tons of ass. Man traps ensue.

+March of the Penguins. Good documentary on Penguins. Good for the whole family :smile:

+Donnie Darko. Kickass movie with Jake Gyllenhaal and his sister Maggie. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys dark humour and scifi.

+Bizita Q (Visitor Q in English). A Japanese flick. This is the most sick and deranged movie I have ever seen. And that is a statement. Do not watch unless you want your eyes and ears to be molested by the vile imagry that this film puts out.

I just watched Rudy for the
first time. Yes, I know its weird to make it to 20 years of life
without ever having seen this movie before, but for some reason I had
never watched it. It was good, but definitely not the best sports
movie I've ever seen.

I'm sure this movie originated the pop culture "slow clap" reference.
