should political correctness really get in the way of giving our students a better education? this segregation (if we could can even call it that) isn't for the same reasons as 60 years ago.. plus, it's not like your skin will be checked for blackness upon enrolling. if that actually happened, then maybe you could call it discrimination and ultimately segregation.

Interesting that Chambers is actually for it (for non-Nebraskans, same guy who, rumor has it, won't even fly over Beatrice after an alleged racial profiling incident... rumor has it being the key words  ). I haven't been following this much save for bits my mom has passed along in e-mails, not that I was hugely up on anything outside of Lincoln and Beatrice to start with, but will be interesting to see how it unfolds from here.

it seems fair enough to me, as long as each shool district gets equal funding. doesn't the move empower local communities, that would normally be a minority, to have a greater input into the schooling of their children?

In the end the only thing that matters is that the students get an education. Integration, or the lack of it isn't the issue. I pulled both of my son's out of public schools because the teachers were just not doing a satisfactory job. It was the hardest decision I had to make for them. Kids need the interaction of other kids. Good and bad, the interaction teaches them to be less socially repressed.

Anyway, if people would concentrate less on the devision of races, and more on the lack of decent teachers, we would be miles ahead.

Arkansas closed every school with an attendance of less than 500 pupils and integrated them into neighboring school districts. The poor kids are bussed sometimes hours before they arrive to school and again to home.

Hours of riding isn't the answer.

The problem with this is that the kids won't get the social diversity they need to grow up to be open minded individuals. By segregating them it only shows they they are not equal human beings. They are going back in time and reversing all the hard work that blacks and others went through to make this country equal for everyone.

P.S. I don't read everyon's posts so if someone has already stated this then I'm sorry.

I'm sorry but being open minded is just over rated. People grow up just as close minded in schools that have plenty of diversity. Integration or the lack of it isn't going to alter that. Its education that teaches open minded views.
Spartan said:

Thats another concept I cannot agree with. Being equal is a state of mind, not a title you earn by going to a school with many races. If you think you are a social retard, then you are one. If you think your just about right, you'll be that too. Equality is all in how you view life, not how life views you.

Take Snarkpit for example. We have just about as much diversity as you can cram into one place and we still have segregation and close minded topics. No one is guaranteed open mindedness.

I grew up in St. Louis in a school full of blacks and hispanics and Eastern Indians. Then i moved to the ozark to a town with the same population as my old school. I can honestly say that I like blacks and hispanics better when I was not going to school where they had gangs. When i moved to an area with fewer, I appreciated the fact that not all of them were gangsters that beat you and stole your Hostess? Brand Cupcakes. Whereas when i lived in the urban area where there were more of them, I didn't like them at all.

I think that after years of whining about how the school boards and administrators are all white and bigots, this is exactly what they need. This way the hispanic parents can be on the school board that controls the primarily hispanic district so that there can be more emphasis on Spanish and English as a second language. The black parents can govern the board where their kids can speak ebonics, and... well that's not productive. But you'll notice that the districts are PREDOMINANTLY black/hispanic. This means that some white kids are going to go to either school and get the crap beat out of them every day, and they will not recieve a quality education. It's pretty much just splitting the roles of WHO is a minority. But by society's standards that's okay, i guess.

maybe the link took me to a different article than the one some of you seem to have read, but there was no mention of taking children out of the schools that they are already attending. if anyone is in a minority at their school, then they remain in the minority. nothing changes as far as that is concerned. the only change is to take all of the schools that have similar cultural requirements, and group them under the same leadership. doesn't that make sense?

Yeah, right!!! haha, The blacks and hispanics are the ones that have the gangs! Most of the whites are just nerds who wanna get to class without getting thier books knocked out of thier arms. Seriously, You can't argue about this because i WENt to a big-city school with these kinds of people in them.

No orph: I called Ripley's. Because I actualy agree with you. Openmindedness is just for people who are too weak to define their own morals/values/opinions, so they agree with everyone.

Remember what i always say: "If you think you have a broad mind, you probably just have a big head, or a thick skull."

I'd debate that. I consider myself open minded but I have my own set of opinions. It's easy to have open minded beliefs and opinions as long as they are based on logic and facts.

P.S. Faith is faith though and it's something different from science. I won't debate that though.

But seriously speaking this will only result in larger gaps between the races.

If you go for literally, then you are intimating "Puss"

If you are going for a broad spectrum answer then you are prolly shooting for the opposite of "Prick" which would be "Not a prick" :heee:

If you are only after the humorous answer then you are definitely wanting the "toilet bowl". That porcelain sucker sees more penis time than anything else. I imagine it is directly opposite of the person standing in from of it.
